While Conrad took care of the enemies , the battle in Group A continued.
Adarte comes in front of the man with the two shields.
The shields were already interesting when he first saw them; now that he is able to look more closely at them. It was even more interesting.
One of the shields has a skull depiction, and the other one has a smiling face.
If Adarte learned one thing about these types of decorations and symbolism on the enemy weapons, it is that they are not just for a stylish look.
This reality can change from time to time, but he believed that Skull and Smiling Face must symbolize something.
"I need to learn about his speed and style of fighting." Adarte said and then jumped towards the enemy, starting to chase him.
The man looked at him with grim eyes.
Half a second later, the metal bat of Adarte hit the skull shield of the enemy.
A loud bang resonated in the room.
Adarte backed away and then nodded.
"His speed and physical capability are not close to mine; he is not weak enough to be able to stop me directly, but he is still not my level."
"The thing is, when I hit the skull shield with my enemy, my ability did not activate."
In normal attacks, when Adarte hits an enemy with his metal bat, the vibration and the power as well as the impact would cause Adarte to store power in his left glove, but when he hit the skull shield, it did not happen.
"It is rare..." Adarte thought and then said.
"He may have some sort of a nullifying effect of 'nen' on that skull shield somehow."
Adarte was not that greatly informed on nen theory and types of nen abilities. It was where he lacked the most compared to other types of abilities.
But even he would not miss that his ability did not work when the conditions of it, small or big, were met.
The man with the shields smiled at him, noticing the look of thoughts on his face, and said.
"What is it?"
"Are you scared that you were not able to fulfill the conditions of your ability..."
Adarte did not take a step back or get scared at all. His emotions were as neutral as they can be.
"So. I was right..." Adarte thought.
If Skull Shield were able to negate the effects of the nen abilities when it got hit, the smiling face would most likely be able to do something too.
But of course, he also wanted to know how a shield is able to stop others' nen abilities.
It definitely has some sort of conditions to do that, but which conditions are great and powerful enough to have such an effect?
It must be known that any ability that is able to shut down the nen abilities of others in some sort of a way is not a simple ability and would need a huge amount of talent, potential, and training.
"I need to try to hit him where he does not defend." Adarte thought and then took another shot; he ran back and forth, found an opening, and then tried to crush the man's head with his metal bat.
The man did not even look at him, and then this time, his left arm moved like lightning and stopped the attack of Adarte with Smiling Shield.
"Hehehehe," a laughing sound resonated; this time, it did not come from the man but came from the mouth of the smiling smile.
It was animated and laughed.
The man smiled and then looked at Adarte.
"What is it..."
"Hehehe."
"It seems like you are not going to be able to hit me," the man said.
While Adarte focused on the man, he noticed something that he never expected.
The metal bat in his hands seemed to be shrunken in size, about ten to fifteen cm; his glove too, it was fit for his hand, but now it was too small for him to wear easily.
He can just wear it by accepting the tightness.
Adarte, who thought about everything, smiled to himself and then nodded. He had some idea about the ability of the enemy.
"Now I get it."
He said to himself.
"One shield is able to negate the effect, and the other shield is capable of cursing the target..."
"It is like tasting the death and bringing it to the target with a smiling ecstasy..." Adarte thought.
"For him to affect enemies and their abilities, he needs to get hit by the ability and block it with Skull Shield..."
"Then, he needs to get hit and then this time block the attack with the smiling shield."
"When these two conditions are met, he is able to send out a curse with that laughing sound and then weaken the ability of the enemy."
"I am not sure if it can be stacked, but if it can, it means that three times getting blocked by that guy, including both shields, which makes it six times."
"It would make me weak enough to not be able to use my ability anymore."
"For most of the non-users, this means that they are not able to fight."
"I also think that his nen ability must only work on nen users like me where the enemy is using some sort of nen-powered weapons."
"It would not work on any nen ability that can attack from a range in the end."
Adarte thought.
After he finally understood everything about the enemy and his abilities, he could not help but think.
"Now."
"I need to find a way to crush his defenses and hit him while not getting blocked by the shields of him…"
"It is easier than one could tell."
Adarte knew that without him having the capability to break down the defenses of the enemy, there would be no end to this fight, and worse, he could lose the use of his ability for the remainder of the fight, which would mean that his capability to fight would break down a lot.
More than he wants it to be lost, especially not right now...
