Chapter 206 - CHAPTER 206

Morning truly arrived, yet the remnants of the night still lingered in the air.

The ruins were slowly left behind, the sound of footsteps replaced by the roar of vehicles moving away one by one.

Adrian Blackwood sat inside the car in silence, his gaze fixed straight ahead, his mind not yet truly leaving that place.

Beside him, Leonard Graves rested his head for a moment, then exhaled a long breath.

"I won't miss that place," he muttered softly.

Adrian did not answer, but his slightly clenched hands revealed one thing: he was not yet completely finished inside his head.

Several vehicles behind carried the wounded members of the team; some had already been treated, others were still in a fragile condition.

No one complained, no one spoke loudly, only a long silence filled with held-back sighs of relief.

Leonard glanced over.

"We lost some good men," he said finally.

Adrian closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again.

"We will make sure they did not die in vain," he answered briefly.

His voice was not loud, but it was enough to make Leonard add nothing more.

Elsewhere, Sophia finally sat down after standing for far too long.

Her body felt heavy, not just from exhaustion, but because of everything that had just happened.

Daniel shut down the systems one by one, ensuring nothing was left behind, no access that could be used again.

"We have severed all connections," he said quietly.

Sophia nodded slightly, her hands still resting on the table.

"And the backups?" she asked.

Daniel shook his head.

"Nothing left. Even if there was, they won't be able to activate it ever again."

Silence fell, lighter this time than before.

Sophia stared at the screens, now completely dark.

No more movement, no more hidden threats.

Yet inside her, something had not completely faded away.

She remembered all that had happened, all that was nearly lost, and all that they had finally managed to preserve.

Her hand slowly touched her stomach again, a small gesture that now felt far more meaningful.

She took a long breath, then released it slowly.

Allowing herself to truly feel the relief.

Back in the vehicle, Leonard finally sat up straighter.

"So after this," he said, turning his head, "are we actually going to rest, or do you have another crazy plan up your sleeve?"

Adrian stared straight ahead for a few seconds before answering.

"We clean everything up."

Leonard raised an eyebrow.

"Of course," he grumbled.

"I should have known."

Yet he did not complain; instead, a small smile appeared on his face.

To him, it wasn't truly over until every last trace was gone.

The vehicles began to enter the busier parts of the city.

Life went on as usual, people starting their days unaware of what had just happened not far from there.

The contrast felt strange, yet real.

The world did not stop just because one battle had ended.

Adrian watched it all without expression, but inside him, a decision was growing stronger.

This was not just about ending an enemy; it was about ensuring nothing like this ever rose again.

At Sophia's location, Daniel finally shut down the last system.

"It's done," he said softly.

Sophia stood up slowly, her body still feeling weak but her mind much clearer.

"Connect me to Adrian," she said.

A few seconds later, the line opened.

"You are out?" her voice sounded calmer than before.

On the other end, Adrian answered simply, "Yes."

Not many words were exchanged, but it was enough to show they were on the same page.

"We aren't done yet," Sophia continued.

Adrian did not deny it.

"I know."

There was a brief pause before Sophia added, "There are still remnants to be cleared. His people, his networks, everything he ever built."

Adrian stared ahead, his jaw tightening slightly.

"I'll take care of it."

Sophia nodded slightly, even though she knew Adrian couldn't see her.

"We do it together," she said quietly.

The call ended after that, but nothing more needed to be said.

Several hours later, the team began to gather again at a safe point.

Reports came in one by one—the number of survivors, the wounded, and those who would not return.

Leonard stood near the table, reading the reports with a face more serious than usual.

"We lost more than we should have," he said.

Adrian stood opposite him, his eyes remaining calm.

"But we did not lose everything."

The sentence was simple, yet enough to make the room fall silent again.

On the other side, Sophia finally arrived. Her steps were slow, but firm.

All eyes turned to her, not because of her status, but because everyone knew her role in what had just transpired.

She stopped a few feet from Adrian, looking at him for several seconds without speaking.

There was no need.

Everything was already conveyed without words.

Adrian stepped closer, the distance between them vanishing.

After all this, he needed to truly confirm that Sophia was there, safe and sound.

"We made it," Leonard said from behind, trying to break the tension.

Sophia turned slightly and nodded. "We survived," she replied.

Adrian added nothing, but his hand slowly gripping hers spoke something more important than any words.

Yet the victory did not feel light.

There was a burden that remained, a loss that could not be ignored.

Everyone in that room felt it.

This was not a perfect ending, but it was the ending they had fought for.

Adrian finally spoke again.

"We start the cleanup today."

Leonard immediately nodded.

"I've already prepared the teams."

Sophia looked at the two men, then said softly, "We will make sure nothing remains."

Her tone was gentle, yet firm.

Outside, the sun was high.

The city moved as usual, but for them, today was a turning point.

From surviving to taking control. From being hunted to becoming the hunters.

From nearly losing everything to preserving what remained.

And amidst it all, one thing became clear.

This was not just about closing the past.

It was about building a future no longer haunted by the same shadows.

The battle was over.

But their journey.

Was far from finished.
