Chapter 190 - CHAPTER 190

Night fell again.

But this time, there was no peace accompanying it.

The air inside the room felt heavier, denser, as if every breath carried an invisible pressure.

Sophia sat on the edge of the bed.

Her face was pale.

Not out of fear.

But because her body was beginning to reach its limit.

Her hand returned to hold her stomach.

For longer than before.

Her breath caught for a moment.

Then exhaled slowly.

On the other side of the room, Adrian Blackwood watched without blinking.

He did not move closer.

His entire focus was fixed on Sophia.

"You must rest," he said.

His voice was low.

Leaving no room for argument.

Sophia shook her head slowly.

"Not yet."

One word.

Enough to show that she would not stop.

Daniel was still in front of the laptop.

Data kept moving.

The attacks had not ceased.

"He is expanding his reach," he said.

Leonard Graves crossed his arms.

"Just as we expected."

This time.

There was no casual tone in his voice.

Sophia lifted her gaze.

"It is not just that."

Everyone turned.

She continued softly.

"He is pushing us."

Silence.

Adrian understood.

"Forcing us to make a mistake."

Sophia nodded.

"And we almost did."

Daniel paused briefly.

"Then we pull back again."

Sophia immediately shook her head.

"No."

Her gaze was sharp.

"We are already too close."

Leonard exhaled a long breath.

"It is always like this."

Several seconds passed.

Until suddenly.

Sophia closed her eyes tightly.

Her hand gripped the blanket harder.

Her breathing stopped for a moment.

Adrian moved instantly.

Faster than before.

"What is it."

His tone changed.

Sharper.

More worried.

Sophia did not answer immediately.

Several seconds.

That felt incredibly long.

Then she opened her eyes.

"I am fine."

Her breathing was unstable.

Adrian did not believe it.

"You are in pain."

Sophia shook her head again.

This time weaker.

"Just... a little."

Daniel and Leonard exchanged glances.

The atmosphere shifted.

It was no longer just about a war.

It was about the limits of the human body.

And that limit was starting to show.

Adrian stood in front of Sophia.

Closer.

More firm.

"We stop this."

Sophia looked at him immediately.

"No."

No hesitation.

No wavering.

There was something else.

Fear.

Not for herself.

But for what she was protecting.

"We are almost there," she continued softly.

Adrian looked at her deeper.

"And if you cannot hold on."

He paused briefly.

His voice dropped.

Heavier.

"All of this means nothing."

Silence fell.

Deeper than before.

Sophia looked at him.

For a long time.

Then slowly.

She lowered her gaze.

Her hand returned to her stomach.

And for the first time.

She did not immediately argue.

Outside the room.

Footsteps were heard rushing.

The door opened.

A doctor entered.

His face was serious.

"We received reports that the patient's condition is declining."

Adrian turned immediately.

"Check her."

His tone allowed no refusal.

The doctor approached.

Examined her.

Several instruments were used.

Time seemed to slow down.

Sophia said nothing.

She just stared at the ceiling.

As if trying to hold something back.

A few minutes later.

The doctor stood straight.

His expression was tense.

"She must not be stressed."

The sentence was simple.

The impact was huge.

"If this continues, the risk of complications increases."

Silence.

Daniel looked down slightly.

Leonard said nothing.

Adrian stood motionless.

His aura changed.

Colder.

Darker.

"You heard that."

He looked at Sophia.

Sophia closed her eyes.

Her breathing was slow.

She knew.

She understood.

But she also knew something else.

If they stopped now.

Everything they had built could collapse.

"I cannot stop," she said softly.

Clear.

Adrian clenched his fist.

"And I will not let you break."

His voice was deeper.

More emotional.

More honest.

Silence fell again.

This time.

More personal.

More painful.

Daniel finally spoke.

"We can take over for a while."

Sophia opened her eyes.

Looking at him.

"You do not know everything."

Leonard nodded slowly.

"Maybe not."

He paused briefly.

"We know enough to hold the position."

Sophia fell silent.

Her mind was battling.

Between control.

And trust.

Adrian stepped closer.

Gentler this time.

"You are not alone."

One sentence.

Enough to stop everything.

Sophia looked at him.

For a long time.

And slowly.

She nodded.

Very slightly.

But it was enough.

Adrian turned immediately.

"Daniel, proceed with the main priorities."

Daniel nodded quickly.

"Understood."

"Leonard, secure the perimeter."

Leonard stood up.

"Finally, clear orders."

Meanwhile.

Sophia leaned back again.

Her body finally allowed itself to rest.

Her eyes remained open.

Watching.

Assessing.

And waiting.

Elsewhere.

Marcus Sterling stood in front of the screen.

Data showed changes.

A different pattern.

He narrowed his eyes.

"They are slowing down."

Someone asked.

"Shall we press further."

Marcus smiled faintly.

"No."

He paused briefly.

"Let them breathe."

Silence.

"Because when they feel safe."

He continued.

"That is when we destroy them."

Back at the hospital.

Everything seemed calmer.

It was only an illusion.

Because beneath it.

A storm was being prepared.

Larger.

Crueler.

And this time.

No one was truly ready.

For what was coming.

The brief silence did not truly bring peace.

It was merely a pause.

A pause before something much bigger moved.

Daniel refocused on the screen.

His fingers moved faster than before.

This time, not to attack.

But to defend.

To hold.

To lock the points that could still be maintained.

"The changes are stabilizing," he said softly.

Leonard Graves stood near the door.

His eyes occasionally glanced outside through the small gap.

"I do not believe this will last long."

Daniel did not turn.

"Me neither."

Adrian Blackwood stood not far from the bed.

His gaze returned to Sophia.

He noticed the small changes.

Breathing that was becoming more regular.

A face that remained pale.

He said nothing.

His mind never stopped working.

Sophia opened her eyes slowly.

The white ceiling was still the same.

The atmosphere felt different.

Quieter.

She tilted her head slightly.

Looking at Daniel.

Leonard.

And finally Adrian.

"What changed," she asked softly.

Daniel answered without turning.

"For now, we are holding them off."

Sophia nodded slightly.

"For now."

She repeated.

As if emphasizing that this was not victory.

Merely a delay.

Leonard turned around.

"He is not attacking anymore."

Sophia looked at him.

"That is exactly the problem."

Silence.

Leonard raised an eyebrow.

"Because it is too quiet."

Sophia nodded.

"Because he chose to be silent."

Adrian observed.

He knew what silence meant in a game like this.

It was not weakness.

It was preparation.

And usually.

Extremely dangerous.

Daniel suddenly stopped.

His hands hovered over the keyboard.

"There is something."

Everyone focused immediately.

"What is it."

Daniel zoomed in on the screen.

"New movement."

Sophia sat up slightly.

Ignoring the discomfort.

Her eyes narrowed.

"Not the previous paths."

Daniel nodded.

"This is different."

Leonard stepped closer.

"Meaning plan B."

The data on the screen moved slowly.

Yet purposeful.

Not random.

Not reactive.

This was planned.

Calmly.

Patiently.

Sophia took a deep breath.

"He is starting."

Adrian turned.

His gaze sharp.

"Where to."

Daniel swallowed hard.

"Towards our most stable sector."

Silence.

Heavier than before.

Leonard let out a short laugh.

There was no humor in it.

"Of course."

Sophia nodded slowly.

"He is waiting for us to be careless."

Adrian stepped closer.

"What is his target."

Daniel answered quickly.

"The backup lines."

Sophia understood immediately.

"If that falls."

She paused briefly.

"We lose our foundation."

Silence fell again.

This time.

There was no time for long thoughts.

Adrian spoke immediately.

"Strengthen that line."

Daniel moved instantly.

Several seconds later.

He shook his head.

"Not enough time."

Leonard clicked his tongue.

"It is always like this."

Sophia stared at the screen.

Her mind raced.

Looking for gaps.

Looking for solutions.

And suddenly.

She spoke.

"We do not defend it."

Everyone turned.

Daniel frowned.

"What do you mean."

Sophia looked at him.

"We let it go."

Silence.

Sharper.

More surprising.

Leonard raised his eyebrows high.

"Are you serious."

Sophia nodded.

"If we hold it, we lose elsewhere."

Daniel was still hesitant.

"And if we let it go."

Sophia took a breath.

"We guide him there."

Adrian understood faster.

"We use it as bait."

Sophia looked at him.

"Yes."

Several seconds passed.

Everyone weighed the options.

It was risky.

But it also provided an opportunity.

Leonard smirked slightly.

"I am starting to like this direction."

Adrian did not wait long.

"Do it."

Daniel took a deep breath.

Then began typing.

The change was made.

The line was slowly released.

Not completely.

Still open enough.

Attractive enough.

On the screen.

The enemy's movement responded instantly.

Faster.

More focused.

Exactly as expected.

Sophia watched closely.

"He is entering."

Daniel nodded.

"Just as we planned."

A few seconds later.

Daniel's expression changed.

"Something is wrong."

Everyone tensed up immediately.

"What."

Daniel enlarged the data.

"He is not entering fully."

Sophia narrowed her eyes.

"He is holding back."

Leonard clicked his tongue softly.

"He is suspicious."

Adrian stared at the screen.

His eyes cold.

"He is not stupid."

Sophia nodded.

"Never."

Several seconds passed.

Tension rose.

Because now.

This was not just about bait.

It was about who was more patient.

Elsewhere.

Marcus Sterling stood still.

His eyes on the screen.

He saw the open path.

He did not move immediately.

"They are learning," he muttered.

Someone beside him asked.

"Shall we proceed."

Marcus smiled faintly.

"A little."

Back at the hospital.

Daniel exhaled.

"He entered partially."

Sophia nodded.

"Enough."

Leonard grinned.

"Now we pull."

Daniel turned.

"Ready."

Adrian gave a single small nod.

A command without words.

And in that single moment.

Everyone moved.

The line was closed.

Access was locked.

And the trap was activated.

The screen flickered.

Data shifted.

The enemy's movement was cut off.

Not completely.

But enough.

Daniel smiled faintly.

"We got a portion."

Sophia exhaled softly.

There was a slight sense of relief.

She did not smile.

Because she knew.

This was not over.

Adrian looked at the screen.

Deeper.

More focused.

"Now he knows."

Sophia nodded.

"And now he will get serious."

The final silence fell.

Not because of uncertainty.

But because of certainty.

That the next step.

Would be far more dangerous.

And there was no more room.

For mistakes.
