Rain had been falling for hours across the city, covering the streets in silver reflections while headlights stretched endlessly beneath the dark sky like rivers of light moving through glass.
Most office buildings had already gone dark for the night.
Cross Entertainment was not one of them.
Several executive floors still remained brightly lit even past midnight, and inside one particular office at the very top of the building, Adrian Cross sat alone surrounded by untouched documents, cold coffee, and the kind of silence that only appeared after exhausting corporate meetings finally ended.
His tie had already been loosened.
The sleeves of his black shirt were folded carelessly near his elbows.
Yet despite the late hour, there was still no sign that he intended to leave anytime soon.
The massive floor-to-ceiling windows behind him revealed almost the entire city beneath the rainstorm outside, but Adrian had barely looked at the view all evening.
