"What kind of person do you think I am? There's no number I can't get," Miles Xavier said in a deliberately nonchalant tone. He didn't tell her the truth, otherwise she'd start nagging him again about being domineering and having no boundaries.
A smile spread across Joan Shaw's face as she walked over. "Then what about my number?"
"Guess," the man on the bed said, his voice soft and unabashedly gentle with her.
The assistant quickly ushered everyone else out, leaving the two of them alone.
"139-9999-9999?" She reeled off the string of nines in one breath, her tongue tripping over itself.
Seeing this adorably silly side of her, the gloom in his heart vanished. "Alright. Since you picked it, I'll have my assistant get on it right away."
"Oh, I was just kidding! That number probably belongs to someone already."
"It's fine. If you like it, we'll just take it. Aren't I charming? Are you completely head over heels for me now?"
