After she finished, she paused for a moment before hesitantly speaking again. "Uncle Jarvis, I have one more question. Are you really serious about my mom? In the future, if—and I'm just saying if—if you were to find out certain things, would you leave her?"
Of course, Clara Grant wanted her mother and Marcus Jarvis to be together, but she was also terrified. If they did start a relationship, what if Marcus later found out about what her mother had been through and decided to leave her? 'Wouldn't Mom just get hurt all over again?'
Her mother was the victim; it wasn't her fault in any way. And Marcus Jarvis didn't seem like a conventional man. Still, Clara couldn't rest easy. She didn't want her mother to be hurt again.
But she couldn't tell Marcus Jarvis any of this directly, so she could only test the waters with ambiguous questions.
