Although Seth didn't answer out loud, he looked at her intently, a question in his eyes as he waited for her to continue.
But Clara Grant hesitated, not knowing how to bring it up.
'Should I just ask him straight out if he once had a fiancée? If he was deeply in love with her, and still hasn't gotten over her?'
'If I asked, would it sound like I was accusing him?'
'Besides, he hadn't told me. Maybe he felt that, given our relationship, there was no need. Or perhaps it was a secret buried deep in his heart, belonging only to him and his fiancée, one that no third party should be allowed to pry into.'
'If I asked, would he think I was being too nosy? Or that I was invading his privacy?'
'What if I asked, and he just coldly said, "That's none of your business"? Wouldn't I just die of embarrassment?'
