The delay meant they missed their movie.
The two returned to the courtyard house to wait for his parents to get off work.
Mr. Quincy and Mrs. Quincy were ecstatic to learn that Cecilia Adler had scored first place.
Mrs. Quincy said, "I thought it would be amazing if you just passed. I never expected you to get first place! Not bad, not bad at all. Ian, have you booked a restaurant?"
"It's booked."
Mr. Quincy was grinning from ear to ear, glad she hadn't disappointed him. "Let's go, then," he said.

Mr. Quincy let Cecilia Adler order. After ordering dishes based on her own tastes and everyone else's, Cecilia sat quietly and waited.
Mr. Quincy initiated the conversation. "Cecilia, are you still studying English?"
Cecilia Adler replied, "I am. I find English quite interesting. I can already have simple conversations in English with Teacher Kent."
