"Okay, I'll tell you then. A lot of people tried to play matchmaker for me. I'm pretty strong, so I could do the farm work of two people. When the aunties and uncles in the village saw that, they couldn't get enough of me and were all fighting to have me as their daughter-in-law.
Two of the guys I was set up with were even high school graduates.
They spoke in this fancy, roundabout way that I couldn't understand. When I asked them to explain, they said a woman like me didn't need to understand much—just how to have babies. It was so disrespectful. Grandma said that no matter how educated people like that were, I should stay away from them. And if I heard that again, I should just give them a good slap across the face.
