Dawn broke, and the sun began its ascent.
When Cecilia Adler woke up, she was the only one in the room.
A glance at the wall clock revealed it was already eight-thirty.
Her gaze drifted to the bedside table, where she spotted a note.
She picked it up:
Cecilia, you were sleeping so soundly I didn't want to wake you. No need to pick me up today.
Cecilia Adler put the note down, but a thought suddenly struck her, and she snatched it back up. Getting out of bed, she found the previous notes he had left and placed them side-by-side to compare. They were the same, yet different.
The handwriting was identical.
But the use of punctuation was different.
The two previous notes he'd left only used periods to break up sentences.
This time, the commas and periods were distinct.
