Both sides finally collided head‑on. Kaido, fighting with his Devil Fruit awakened, had seen all his attributes soar—but Marco's growth had far outstripped his. After two hours of brutal combat, Kaido was already gasping for breath.
He stared at Marco like he was staring at a monster. How long had it been since their last battle? Barely half a year. How could Marco's strength have increased this much—in every single area?
"Hmph… hmph… I'm not fighting anymore. You win."
The moment Kaido admitted defeat, the Phoenix Pirates exploded in cheers.
"Great, we won!"
"Marco won!"
"Now Marco has finally taken back the title of the strongest man in the world!"
"Captain Marco is now the leader of the Three Emperors Alliance!"
Marco, however, remained calm and steady amid the celebration.
Back when he'd only been at the Strong Yonko level, among his six attributes, the only one that surpassed Kaido's was his recovery. In everything else, he'd been weaker.
Now, it was different. Marco could confidently say that all six of his attributes were above Kaido's. On top of that, the mastery of his Three Types of Haki and his Devil Fruit had also surpassed Kaido's.
Kaido's Azure Dragon Fruit had only just stepped into awakening, and he hadn't developed any awakening techniques yet. Marco, on the other hand, already possessed the Destruction Black Flame Awakening Skill.
At that moment, the system's mechanical voice echoed in his mind:
"Mission 'Vengeance' completed. Defeat Kaido. Reward: 10,000 attribute points."
A translucent system panel then appeared before his eyes. At the top was the mission list, showing the current main quest:
"Mission: Overthrow the World Government and Slay the World King Imu.
The World Government has ruled for eight hundred years and is rotten to the core. Overthrow the world government and slay the world king, Imu. Reward: 50,000 attribute points."
To slay the World King Imu, the World Government's lackeys will inevitably try to stop you. Bounty:
Kill a Celestial Dragon's ordinary guard: Reward 10 attribute points.
Kill a CP0 member: Reward 200 attribute points.
Kill a Celestial Dragon: Reward 500 attribute points.

Crew members Shiryu, Doc Q, Vasco Shot, etc.: 500 attribute points each."
"Mission: Surpass the Old Era and Become the Strongest of the New Era — Achieve a bounty of 5,564,800,000 Berries or higher and inherit Whitebeard's title of 'Strongest Man in the World.' 'Reward: 10,000 attribute points."
Glancing over the three remaining missions, Marco judged that the third one, "Surpass the Old Era and Become the Strongest of the New Era," would be accomplished soon. After the power he'd shown in the Egghead Island War, he had already surpassed Kaido. Sooner or later, the World Government and the Marines would have no choice but to acknowledge him as the new strongest man in the world. Besides, he really had defeated Kaido.
As for pushing his bounty past 5,564,800,000 berries, he didn't think that would be difficult.
After the Whole Cake Island War, his bounty had already been raised to 5.5 billion Berries.
"Mamamama… it looks like we finally have a backbone now!" Big Mom cackled, her grin full of menace.
Originally, the Three Emperors Alliance was nominally led by Kaido. But at that time, Kaido had only just beaten Marco, and Marco had in turn defeated Big Mom, making him, without question, the strongest force within the alliance of the Three Emperors.
Marco, however, had the system and didn't take Kaido seriously. Big Mom, on the other hand, used personal favors to keep Kaido under her thumb, so he never even got a real chance to become the true leader of the alliance.
Later, the Whole Cake Island War broke out. The Phoenix Pirates played a major role in that conflict, while Kaido dragged his feet and arrived late. This earned deep resentment toward Kaido and the Beasts Pirates from both the Big Mom Pirates and the Phoenix Pirates.
Then came the Egghead Island War, where Marco once again displayed power far beyond Kaido's. That completely shut the door on Kaido's hopes of ever becoming leader.
Now, even though the Three Emperors Alliance had taken heavy losses in both the Whole Cake Island and Egghead Island wars, a true powerhouse had finally stepped forward. With a clear leader, the Three Emperors Alliance could finally unite around a single goal.
Kaido stomped over to Marco and demanded, "Hey, Marco, how the hell did you get so strong?"
"Do you really have power that transcends this world?"
His question instantly piqued everyone's curiosity. Even the Phoenix Pirates were intrigued. Marco rarely trained more than usual and acted the same as always, yet his strength had shot up like a rocket. The speed of his growth was downright abnormal.
Vista and Jozu, who had fought alongside Marco for decades, felt it most clearly. Once, their strengths had been roughly equal. But ever since Whitebeard's death, Marco's power had surged, leaving them far behind.
Marco met Kaido's gaze. The Emperor had asked the same question yet again. Marco exhaled lightly and asked in return, "Do you really want to know this that badly?"
"Of course," Kaido replied, his expression serious.
Marco's eyes shifted to Jozu and the others. "What about you? Do you also want to know why my strength has increased so quickly?"
Jozu and the rest scratched their heads awkwardly and gave wry laughs. "We're a bit curious too. After all, Marco, you don't usually train that much, but the gap between your strength and ours keeps getting wider. So we also want to know if there are any tricks."
Marco swept his gaze over everyone, his tone turning solemn. "There's only one reason my strength became this powerful."
"W-What is it?" The members of the Phoenix Pirates swallowed nervously, Adam's apples bobbing.
Even Kaido and Big Mom leaned in slightly, their curiosity piqued. Marco finally answered, "Obviously, it's that all my training in my previous years is catching up!"
For a moment, everyone just stared, dumbfounded. Kaido let out a cold snort. He could tell Marco wasn't willing to say more and didn't bother pressing the issue. Instead, he asked brusquely, "Fine, then. Marco, now that you're the boss of the Three Emperors Alliance, what are you planning to do next?"
Marco turned back to Kaido and Big Mom, his expression firm. "We've all taken heavy losses in this war. First, we rest and recover. After we locate Vegapunk, we'll use his scientific power to strengthen the overall might of our Three Emperors Alliance."
"Wororororo, I agree," Kaido grinned. "We lost so many troops on Egghead Island just to save that old man. If he can't live up to the title of the world's greatest scientist and can't repair Pluton for me, I definitely won't let him off."
Big Mom's lips curled into a wide smile. "Mamamama! If it's Vegapunk, he can definitely realize my dream—human gigantification and, preferably, the ability to grow or shrink at will. I wonder if he can manage that!"
Listening to their desires, Marco added calmly, "Aside from that, there's also the personal grudge of our Phoenix Pirates."
Marco's gaze turned icy. "I heard the Blackbeard Pirates are recruiting all over the Grand Line," he said. "I'm planning to take my men there and wipe them out."
"Not just to avenge Pops and the brothers who died at Marineford," he added, "but to clean house."
At the mention of Blackbeard, the Phoenix Pirates all ground their teeth in fury. Their hatred for that traitor ran deep.
Big Mom spoke up. "Is there anything we can help with regarding this matter?"
With Marco's current strength, taking down Blackbeard was no longer a problem. Big Mom's question was more courtesy than concern.
"Yes." Marco met the eyes of Big Mom and Kaido, his expression serious. "When the Phoenix Pirates are fighting the Blackbeard Pirates, I need you to keep an eye on the Marines and the World Government, so they don't interfere."
"Worororo, no problem," Kaido agreed without hesitation.
Two more days passed, and the Three Emperors Alliance scattered back to their respective territories to begin recruiting new talent.
Marco, meanwhile, sent Ace and Yamato to Dressrosa with a mission: invite Princess Viola of Dressrosa and Princess Mansherry of the Tontatta Tribe to join the Phoenix Pirates.
In the past, Marco could slowly handpick suitable recruits by relying on the remnants of Whitebeard's old network. That was no longer an option. After the Egghead Island War, the Phoenix Pirates had taken heavy losses, and their subordinate crews had been hit even harder. There were no more reinforcements to draw from.
Yet the crew's numbers had to be replenished with fresh blood as soon as possible. Otherwise, with barely over five thousand members left, the Phoenix Pirates would struggle just to hold their current territory, let alone fight new battles.
The Three Emperors Alliance might keep the Beasts Pirates and Big Mom Pirates from causing trouble, but with their weakened manpower, ambitious rookies were sure to come looking for a fight.
Cautious by nature, Marco also worried that any large-scale recruitment would invite world government spies into his ranks. That was why he needed Viola's Glare-Glare Fruit.
As for Mansherry's Heal-Heal Fruit, that was simply an added bonus.
On Hachinosu, the members of the Phoenix Pirates were busy replenishing their supplies.
After the Marines' last attack, the island had been completely stripped. Everything that could be carried away was taken; whatever couldn't be moved was destroyed on the spot. Before leaving, the Marines set the entire island ablaze. The fire raged for several days and was only fully extinguished yesterday.
Even so, because of Hachinosu's unique value, everyone still chose to rebuild on the scorched earth.
Aboard the Phoenix—
This was the pirate ship Marco had begun building after becoming captain. Aiming to rival the Moby Dick, he had commissioned a massive sailing ship.
The Phoenix had actually been completed half a month ago, but many of the crew were reluctant to part with the Moby Dick. Marco felt the same; abandoning such a fine ship was a bitter thought.
Now there was no room for regret. During the Egghead War, the Moby Dick had been destroyed. The entire Phoenix Pirates crew had transferred to the Phoenix.
At that moment, the transponder snail in front of Marco rang. He picked up and said, "Hello, this is Marco."
"Worororo..." Kaido's distinctive laugh echoed from the other end. He asked, "Marco, did you see it? Today's newspaper."
"Newspaper?" Marco was slightly taken aback.
Big Mom's voice suddenly joined the call. "Mamamama, haven't you seen it yet? Today's latest newspaper—our new bounties are out. Those World Government guys really will stop at nothing to cover things up!"
Hearing Big Mom, Marco asked curiously, "Did the Marines say anything?"
Just then, Jom, Vice Captain of the Third Division, came running over, shouting, "Captain Marco, today's newspaper is out!"
More than twenty years ago, Jozu had found Jom as an infant in a back-alley corner. The baby had clearly been abandoned, with no name or family. So Jozu had simply named him Jom and taken him in as his younger brother.
Big Mom heard Jom's voice through the transponder snail and grinned. "Mamamama, since you've got the newspaper over there too, just read it yourself!"
Kaido let out a cold snort, eyes full of disdain. "After all, this incident caused quite a stir. Even the World Government took heavy losses. Of course they'd report it like this…"
By now, the members of the Phoenix Pirates had gathered around, one after another, craning their necks to see. As pirates, what they cared about most was obvious—after making such a huge ruckus, they all wanted to know how much their bounties had gone up.
"Jom, read it out for everyone!" Jozu called.
"Yes, Nii-chan," Jom replied respectfully.
He quickly began to read aloud, "According to investigations by the CP intelligence organizations, half a month ago, the world's greatest scientist, Vegapunk, colluded with Yonko Marco, betraying critical secret technology of the World Government and attempting to create powerful weapons to overthrow the World Government. After learning of this, Marineford ordered Admiral Fujitora and Admiral Ryokugyu to lead thirty thousand Marine soldiers to Egghead Island to apprehend Vegapunk, but they met with resistance from the Three Emperors Alliance…"
