Sengoku stared at the receiver he'd just placed down, a storm of emotions churning in his chest. He had been certain Kuzan would return. He had never considered that Kuzan would refuse to come back. It seemed the Revolutionary Army's influence on him ran deeper than he'd thought.
Garp scowled, veins bulging on his forehead. "That brat's wings really have hardened now. He even dares to go against this old man's word! Damn it!"
But a beat later, Garp burst into hearty laughter. "Hahaha! Still, that kid's got some backbone. He's worthy of being my apprentice!"
"Shut up, Garp!" Sengoku snapped, irritation bleeding through his voice.
Now Sengoku truly felt a throbbing headache coming on. He was no longer young; he couldn't remain fleet admiral forever. A successor for the Marines had to be chosen. But with Kuzan refusing to return, and Borsalino captured by the Phoenix Pirates, there was no suitable candidate left to take up the mantle of Fleet Admiral.

Meanwhile, in the New World—
After the Three Emperors Alliance crushed the Marines, the Supernovas who still wanted to survive in the New World discovered there was no room left for them to maneuver.
Once hailed as the Worst Generation, they now had to move through the New World as carefully as rats running through the streets.
On a small, remote island, a few of the worst generation had gathered together. Jewelry Bonney, the only woman among them, chomped on a slice of pizza as she glared at the two men in front of her.
"Hmph, so in the end, only a few of us from the Worst Generation are left," she said irritably.
Scratchmen Apoo clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Tch… Among our generation, the dead are dead, the captured are captured, and the ones who vanished have just disappeared. The rest either went crawling to the Four Emperors or joined the Marines."
Basil Hawkins quietly shuffled his tarot cards, his face expressionless. "This is fate. The era is changing, and we are powerless to resist it."
In just over half a year, Eustass Kid—the Supernova with the highest bounty—had been killed by the Phoenix Pirates. After Kid's death, Killer and the rest of the Kid Pirates were seized by the Marines and thrown into prison.
Trafalgar Law, captain of the Heart Pirates, had accepted the Marines' offer and become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Urouge the Mad Monk, who had once challenged Big Mom, disappeared after his defeat. Capone Bege, who had also gone up against the Big Mom Pirates, chose to join her crew directly after losing.
X Drake was rumored to have been killed by Blackbeard Teach of the Blackbeard Pirates.
As for Straw Hat Luffy of the Straw Hat Pirates and Pirate Hunter Zoro, their whereabouts were completely unknown.
Of the eleven Supernovas who had once gathered at the Sabaody Archipelago, only these three were left in the New World.
Forced by the times, they formed a pirate alliance. Their combined strength was still meager, but it was better than confronting the Four Emperors alone.
Bonney clicked her tongue in irritation. "So, Apoo, what exactly did you call us here for? With the Three Emperors Alliance around, even if the three of us team up, it's probably not going to do anything against them!"
Apoo let out a sly, almost playful chuckle. "You can't say that. After the Whole Cake Island War, both the Marines and the Three Emperors Alliance took heavy losses. And I'm almost certain this isn't the end. Their war is going to keep dragging on. We've got to survive in the cracks between them and wait until both sides are battered and bleeding. That's when our chance will come."
Hawkins listened in silence, his gaze cold. "Things won't go so smoothly."
"That's why we wait for the right opportunity," Apoo said, spreading his hands with a grin. "Given how the New World is now, if we don't want to serve under the Three Emperors, then the only path left is to stick together for warmth and live in the gap between the Marines and the Three Emperors Alliance."
Bonney and Hawkins didn't reply, but both understood that Apoo was speaking the harsh truth.
At that moment, a sudden boom shook the island. The ground lurched violently beneath their feet.
"What was that?!"
"An earthquake?!"
The abrupt tremor sent the crews of Bonney's Pirates, Apoo's Pirates, and Hawkins' Pirates into high alert.
"Look! Outside—there's a huge hole!"
The three captains rushed out with their men, only to see a massive, human-shaped crater gouged into the island's surface.
"What the hell is this? That hole… it's like someone fell straight out of the sky!"
"Come to think of it, there is a Sky Island above this sea…"
"Don't tell me someone actually fell from there."
"But who is it? That guy's huge!"
Staring at the enormous crater, the pirates gathered around, talking over one another as they cautiously edged closer to see who—or what—was inside.
Suddenly, a gigantic hand shot up from within the pit, clawing at the edge. A towering figure began to heave itself out of the crater.
The man who emerged was colossal and powerfully built. Black hair fell over his shoulders, and from his head jutted a pair of long horns like those of a ceratopsian. A beard like dragon whiskers framed his mouth, and a dragon-scale tattoo coiled over his left arm. His upper body was bare, an X-shaped scar carved across the right side of his abdomen. A purple shirt hung loosely at his waist, two golden chains dangling from its hem. He wore dark green, wide-legged pants, a thick shimenawa tied around his waist, and a purple fur cape draped over his shoulders.
It was as if a "demon" had crashed down into the world.
The moment the three captains saw the man's face, their pupils shrank violently. Just two days ago, they'd seen this very man in the news.
Kaido of the Beasts. Captain of the Beasts Pirates. The strongest creature on land, sea, or air. A wanted criminal with a bounty of 5.5 billion Berries.
Apoo was just as stunned. He had never imagined Kaido would appear like this.
Kaido got to his feet, slowly shaking his dizzy head.
"Ugh, my head hurts so much! As expected, jumping from that height isn't just ordinary pain! But even like this, it seems I can't die!"
His gaze swept over the three pirate crews gathered before him. A feral grin split his face.
"Worororo… brats, the worldwide war is about to begin. Come on! Choose!"
The instant the words left his mouth, a tsunami of Haoshoku burst from Kaido's body, sweeping across the entire island. Pirates dropped one after another under the violent wave of Conqueror's Haki, collapsing like puppets with their strings cut. In the end, only the three captains managed to remain on their feet—barely.
"D-damn it!" Bonney gritted her teeth. The overwhelming pressure of that Conqueror's Haki nearly knocked her out; fear crashed over her, making her calves tremble.
Apoo immediately bolted toward Kaido, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Ka-Kaido-sama, it's me! I'm Apoo! I already took the initiative to join King-sama before, and I'm the one who gave the intel on this location!"
Hearing Apoo's words, Bonney and Hawkins turned to stare at him in disbelief, a cold sense of betrayal cutting through them. Apoo had invited them here to talk about forming an alliance, but it had all been a setup. This guy had already thrown in with one of the Four Emperors—Kaido of the Beasts.
Kaido listened and gave a slight nod.
"Hmm, I know you."
Then he ignored Apoo completely, turning his cold eyes on Bonney and Hawkins.
"The War is about to begin. You have ten seconds. Will you join under my command and take part in this war with me… or will you be killed by me right here? Choose."
