Edge didn't utter a sound as a rat scurried past his toe inside the jail. Thus was his second time inside one since he was born. Somehow he was losing hope. What was his father going to do about him now?
He raised his head and looked out of another small gap in a window high above him. He couldn't tell if it was still morning or if it had turned afternoon. Hunger gnawed at his stomach, he had not eaten for two days now. He was beginning to faint with hunger.
Suddenly, the doors opened and footsteps were coming down the stairs. Edge kept his head down as the footsteps drew closer until they stopped at his gate. Edge slowly looked at JP; it was his father, before Jim, staring at him expressionlessly, not saying a word. Edge forced himself to look down and not give his father the fear he wanted.
"So, it appears you're not scared of me again." Duke Evercrest finally spoke. "Usually you would cower in front of me even if I just walked past you."
Edge didn't reply to him, looking at Diana as a tiny ant crashed across his toe, giving him the urge to whack and shake it ,off but he didn't.
"Have you ever wondered why I never killed you?" Duke Evercrest asked. "Why did I never slit your throat and watch you painfully go to death like the laughter pig you are?"
Edge's jaw clenched and he slowly looked, his face as dark as thunder. "If you really wanted to kill me, you would have done it already. Something is holding you back, that's why."
"It looks like you're not as foolish as I thought." The Duke replied, beginning to pace around the room. "I guess I should explain why you're still alive."
Duke Evercrest wiped his forehead with a napkin before he began. "Twenty years ago, I was still in my youth and full of life, I had contracted a disease known as Ecinydea disease otherwise known as white man disease, a genital disease that caused the swelling of the private parts and bodily pain, sores, and fluids were dripping out of wounds in my body. I searched the whole empire for a cure and I found one."
"That cure disgusted my very being, it made me perpetually sick inside. I had visited a shaman who told me what the cure was. It wasn't a potion or herbs, or fruits hidden in some secret land or place where I would journey and find it."
"That cure was to sleep with a black woman, one of the worst experiences of my life. Miraculously, I was cured in such a despicable but ingenious way. But a problem occurred, a problem I'm regretting leaving alive to this day."
Edge swallowed but still didn't say a word. He knew what his father was talking about. He watched as his father was glaring at him now.
"You!" His father spat. "You were the problem! You still are the problem! You have haunted me every night for the past seventeen years! Do you know what it feels like to be whispered and talked about as the Duke who gathered a bastard son and he's freaking black! If only I had the balls to have dashed you against the floor the moment you were born, then I would be spared this ridicule of my son almost raping a Duke's daughter! "
Duke Evercrest took a deep breath as he had finished unleashing his words, he brought out his napkin from his pocket and wiped his sweaty forehead before he spoke again.
"A meeting is being held to choose the punishment for your crime this afternoon. Just know, your last straw has been pulled out. You are going to regret sullying the name of Evercrest, I assure you that."
Duke Evercrest turned and left, leaving Edge all alone back in the jail. He struggled to make himself comfortable but it was very difficult. He just wanted to be done with this nightmare once and for all.
Suddenly after two hours had passed, he heard the door open and two guards came in, unlocked the cage, and brought him out. The guards escorted him out of the jail and led him to a huge room. As he walked in, he saw the Duke and his family were sitting on their seats in the room, he also saw some advisors and guards were inside the room. It looked like they had just finished discussing, tension was in the air.
Edge was forced to his knees in chains, the force making him wince in pain. The guards stepped back k and Edge was now visible to everyone in the room.
"Darren Evercrest, after a lengthy discussion on your crime, we have decided on the appropriate punishment." Ecge saw that it was the butler speaking. "Due to the inhumane crime you committed, you're hereby vanished from Evercrest and one step in the territory will result in your immediate execution."
Edge gritted his teeth as the verdict was heard, but he kept silent as the nobles and advisors in the room agreed. Edge knew that this verdict was only stated because of the Duke, if not, he would certainly be killed.
Suddenly, two guards appeared and grasped his wrists, pulling him jp in suorise. He hadn't expected that, and he was shocked. They forced his shirt open and laid him out on the ground.
"What are.....? " He was about to ask when a searing cut of all reasoning had him screaming in pain as the smell of burning flesh registered in his nostrils. He looked down to see that his skin was marked.
"That mark, " the bugler explained. "That's the mark of the banished, never to return."
Edge groaned in pain, rage falling in his eyes as the guards forced him back to his knees. His face was white, didn't utter a word.
"Now, criminal. " The bugler continued. "Is there anything you want to say before the court. Any last words?"
There was silence in the room for a minute as everyone waited for Edge to say something.
"You know, I would've left without doing anything." Edge's voice abruptly cut the silence, his voice so cold that people couldn't believe their ears. "But you bastards had to do the one thing I hated."
There were gasps in the whole room, the nobles staring at the kneeling figure with disbelief in their eyes. Duchess Evercrest gasped in shock, her eyes wide. Duke Evercrest simply raised an eyebrow, but it packed all the confusion in the world.
"How dare you insult...!" A man sprang up, ready to rage, but a voice cut him off.
"Shut the hell up, you filthy animal!" Edge spat, cutting him off and making him choke on rage.
"I hate tattoos." Edhe spat in anger. "You gullible badtards don't know a single thing but vont hou worry. I promise you I'll have my revenge on you. You'll wish that you never did this to me. I'll assure you of that!"
Edge was about to rant some more when a portal came under his feet, cutting his rant off and making him fall into the darkness, and then the portal vanished into thin air.
