Chapter 162 - Chapter 39: Echo Beast Territory

The further they walked, the less the world agreed with itself.

Beyond the Truth Hunter encounter, the land changed.

Not into a sect territory.

Not into a city.

But into something far more unstable:

a living disagreement between realities

The ground shifted subtly under each step:

sometimes solid stone

sometimes cracked desert

sometimes shallow water that vanished when looked at directly

Lian Yue slowed.

"…This place feels wrong in a different way."

Tiān Lán nodded slightly.

"It's not being controlled."

A pause.

"It's being forgotten."

_MIRROR_

"Unindexed zone detected."

"Reality coherence below minimum threshold."

A low sound echoed through the valley.

Not a roar.

Not wind.

But something in between:

a sound that did not fully decide what it was

The ground ahead rippled.

Then split.

Something emerged.

A beast stepped out.

But it was not stable.

Its body flickered between forms:

a black panther

a mist-like silhouette

a skeletal frame made of broken light

Each version existed at once, but not in agreement.

Lian Yue instinctively stepped back.

"…That thing isn't stable at all."

Tiān Lán studied it.

"…It's not broken."

A pause.

"It's unfinished."

_MIRROR_

"Echo Beast confirmed."

"Formed from residual reality contradictions."

The beast turned its head.

And looked at Tiān Lán.

Immediately_

its form stabilized slightly.

Not fully.

But enough to focus.

The Void Lynx moved.

And reality lagged behind it.

Its movement did not follow space.

It followed possibility gaps.

One moment it was far.

Next moment_

it was already behind Lian Yue.

She reacted instantly, stepping away_

but the ground beneath her turned into "not-yet-solid state."

She staggered slightly.

"…It attacks timing, not position."

Guardian threads erupted.

Silver-blue lines snapped outward.

Not blocking the beast.

But anchoring continuity around Lian Yue.

BOOM_

The beast's claw struck empty probability space.

Tiān Lán stepped forward.

Slow.

Controlled.

"…You exist in contradictions."

He raised his hand slightly.

"Then you can't survive consistency."

Guardian threads spread into the ground.

Not attacking.

But forcing temporary reality agreement in a small radius.

For the first time_

the Void Lynx's form slowed.

Its multiple versions began syncing.

The beast let out a distorted sound.

Not pain.

But confusion.

_MIRROR_

"You are forcing local coherence."

"Beasts born from fracture cannot maintain unified form."

Lian Yue stepped in carefully.

She raised a small talisman.

But instead of activating it_

she paused.

"…It's not attacking randomly."

A pause.

"It's reacting to instability around it."

She looked at Tiān Lán.

"You're making it more real just by fighting it."

Tiān Lán nodded slightly.

"…Then I should finish it quickly."

Guardian threads condensed.

Not expanding.

But tightening into a single point of convergence.

Tiān Lán moved.

Not fast.

But decisive.

One step.

One strike.

One anchored truth.

BOOM_

The Void Lynx froze mid-shift.

Its multiple forms tried to separate_

but failed to re-diverge.

And then_

it collapsed into dust-like fragments of light.

The land stabilized slightly again.

Not fully.

But noticeably.

Lian Yue exhaled.

"So these are Echo Beasts…"

A pause.

"Creatures born from broken reality itself."

Tiān Lán looked at the fading fragments.

"…They're not monsters."

A pause.

"They're leftovers."

_MIRROR_

"Residual existence without unified definition."

Silence.

Suddenly_

the Mirror's tone shifted.

Slightly sharper.

"Multiple Echo signatures detected ahead."

"Large concentration."

Lian Yue looked forward.

"…That sounds like more than one."

Tiān Lán's gaze sharpened slightly.

"…Or a nest."

Wind shifted.

This time_

it chose a direction.
