There was still some time before dinner, so Daguo and I began reviewing our lessons. With final exams less than two weeks away, just as Daguo had said, I really couldn't let my grades slip. I truly didn't want to see my mother sad or upset.
If there was anything that could make my mother sad or worried right now, my academic performance would undoubtedly be at the top of the list.
My mother had worked so hard raising me all by herself, hoping that I would study hard and make something of myself in the future.
She had told me more than once that she didn't expect me to repay her in the future—she only hoped I could stand on my own two feet, live without worry about food or clothing, and eventually find a good wife to start a family and build a career...
But at the moment, I was having trouble focusing. My palms were sweating the whole time, while Daguo seemed completely absorbed in his studies.
I had no idea what Daguo had planned for tonight. It was clear now that he didn't have any knockout drugs, so what was I supposed to do?
Take the initiative and go to Teacher An's room like last time?
Come on, last time I only went because I thought Teacher An had been drugged. Even then, I was incredibly nervous the entire time.
But this time, knowing full well that Teacher An would be completely conscious, how could I possibly muster the courage?
As a student, I naturally felt a certain fear toward teachers.
In my dazed state, time seemed to fly by. Before long, I heard Teacher An calling us for dinner.
With Daguo tugging at me, I walked somewhat hesitantly toward the kitchen table.
"Wow... Mom, you've outdone yourself today!" Daguo exclaimed as soon as we entered the kitchen, looking at Teacher An with obvious delight. The reason Daguo was so sturdy wasn't just because he loved sports—he also had a big appetite and loved good food.
"You're both growing, so you need plenty of nutritious food to help you along," Teacher An said as she brought over the last bowl of soup. Although she was speaking to Daguo, her eyes seemed to flicker toward me out of the corner of her vision—or was that just my imagination? As she finished speaking, she smiled at me, making my cheeks flush.
"Eat more meat," Teacher An said at the table, continuously serving me dishes as she spoke.
"Mom, you're playing favorites! What about me?" Seeing Teacher An piling food onto my plate, Daguo held out his own bowl toward her.
"Help yourself. Xiao Yang rarely visits—he's our guest. Don't you know any manners?" Teacher An lightly tapped Daguo's wrist with her chopsticks.
"Oh..." Daguo nodded and pulled his bowl back. Then, when Teacher An wasn't looking, he secretly winked at me.
I had to admit, even though Teacher An's enthusiasm made my face burn, it also made me feel incredibly warm inside. After all, Teacher An was my first woman. It would be a lie to say she didn't hold a place in my heart. It might not be love, exactly, but there was definitely some affection there. Being cared for by her like this gave me a faint taste of the sweetness of love, almost as if I were being looked after by my own wife.
At the same time, it eased much of my awkwardness, and I began to relax.
After finishing one bowl of rice, before I could even refuse, Teacher An served me another bowl. I ended up eating three bowls of rice in total, leaving me so full that I could barely breathe. Eventually, I had to beg Teacher An to stop.
After dinner, Da Guo and I watched TV in his bedroom while Teacher An brought us snacks and fruits.
Since my arrival this time, Teacher An's attitude toward me had clearly improved compared to before. Even the quality of the snacks, fruits, and meals had noticeably upgraded.
While Teacher An was busy in the kitchen, Da Guo kept whispering about this in my ear, making him roll his eyes repeatedly. At the same time, his remarks eased my tension considerably.
When it was time to sleep, I naturally went to the same bedroom I had stayed in last time. Before we parted, Da Guo couldn't help but wink at me.
Lying on the small bed I had slept in before, my mind was restless, and it was still relatively early.
Earlier, when I called my mom to tell her I wouldn't be coming home, her mood seemed slightly down, but she agreed without hesitation in the end.
It was only 7 p.m., and I couldn't fall asleep at all. I was also waiting.
The sound of Teacher An tidying up the house echoed from outside the door, but it soon faded away.
Especially after hearing the sound of Teacher An returning to her bedroom and closing the door, my breathing became unsteady—I felt both nervous and expectant.
I couldn't help but open QQ on my phone and happened to see a message from Da Guo.
"Bro, it's all up to you tonight..." Just a few short words.
"I'm a bit scared..." I took a deep breath and sent the message to Da Guo, which truly reflected how I felt at that moment.
"What's there to be scared of? You saw how my mom treated you tonight. She doesn't dislike you at all. If you go to her, she won't refuse... And since you're staying here tonight, she definitely knows what might happen. Maybe she's even waiting for you to come over right now..." Da Guo quickly replied with a long message. I could sense what he meant, but my nervousness didn't lessen.
"Let me calm myself down..." I took another deep breath and replied to Da Guo.
"Bro, seize the opportunity. Opportunities like this don't come twice..." After sending this message, Da Guo fell silent.
Time passed minute by minute, and the outside was completely quiet. Da Guo didn't send any more messages. I glanced at the time—it was already 8:30 p.m.
Finally, driven by desire, I gritted my teeth, slowly got out of bed, and gently opened the door.
I moved cautiously, trying not to make a sound, and tiptoed toward Teacher An's door.
When I reached her door, my hand gripped the doorknob. With just a light press, I could open it. Across from Teacher An's door was Da Guo's bedroom, which was also completely quiet and dark.
Maybe that kid was listening carefully to the sounds outside. I was sure none of the three of us were asleep.
I wondered if Da Guo had set up a camera to secretly record everything. Perhaps he had already prepared for it.
Putting myself in their shoes, if it were me, I definitely wouldn't be able to resist secretly taking photos, because watching and reminiscing is a unique kind of thrill in itself.
The thought that Teacher An might not be asleep, and that Daguo might have even installed hidden cameras, made my heart waver with hesitation.
In the end, my timidity and shyness got the better of me, and I gave up. I was too nervous to go through with it, so I decided to wait for another opportunity.
With that thought, I quietly retreated and tiptoed back into my room.
Even though I moved as softly as possible, I was sure Daguo and Teacher An must have heard me stepping out.
Would Teacher An be disappointed that I gave up?
I couldn't tell whether Teacher An was disappointed or not, but Daguo definitely would be, right?
At that moment, I was too afraid to open QQ, worried that Daguo might send me another barrage of frantic messages.
Time ticked by, and I couldn't fall asleep at all. I wondered if my mom was asleep by now. With that thought, I opened the home surveillance cameras—the ones I had installed myself. First, I checked the camera in my mom's bedroom, but the lights were off. My own room was pitch black, and so was the hallway.
It seemed my mom must be in the storage room. I switched to the storage room camera and, sure enough, there she was.
She was busy in the storage room, but she wasn't live-streaming. Instead, she was sitting on a small stool in the middle of the open space, holding some documents as if she were sorting through inventory.
She was wearing a loose nightgown, probably with no plans to stream tonight. She must have gone to the storage room to pick out some items before calling it an early night.
Watching her work diligently, occasionally wiping sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
Just then, she answered a phone call, but I couldn't make out what was being said on the other end.
"Pick up books? At this hour? Alright…" Before answering the call, a flicker of hesitation crossed her face. Her words left me confused. After wiping her sweat, she stood up, glanced down at her nightgown, hesitated for a moment, but then walked out of the storage room.
I quickly switched cameras and saw her heading toward the front door. She paused briefly before opening it. When I saw who walked in, my mind went blank with shock—it was Daguo?
No way… Just as I was about to keep watching, I suddenly heard the sound of a door opening outside, followed by soft footsteps approaching my room…
