Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Pain's Disdain

"How about I give you the remaining half of the commission, and you go assassinate the Third Hokage?" Kitsuchi asked tentatively.

"What!? Assassinate the Hokage? Just the two of us?" Biwa Jūzō looked like he thought Kitsuchi was joking. Although they were outside Konoha Village, the Konoha Great Camp across from them had many Jonin.

Kakuzu, standing nearby, fell into contemplation. Assassinate the Hokage? He was an expert at that!

It was just assassinating a Third Hokage; he had even dared to take on the First Hokage and was still alive and well.

"Hey! Kakuzu! What are you thinking about?" Biwa Jūzō had a bad feeling watching Kakuzu think.

"I accept this mission!" Kakuzu said in a deep voice.

!!! Kitsuchi and Biwa Jūzō were both startled; they hadn't expected this guy to actually dare to accept it.

"Really?" Kitsuchi scrutinized Kakuzu. Was he always this bold?

Biwa Jūzō opened his mouth slightly. No, buddy, is it really worth it just for money!? If you accept, I have to go with you!

"We accept!" Kakuzu spoke again. Only a fool wouldn't take money! He had five lives; he couldn't die!

"Good! As long as I receive confirmation, whether you succeed or not, I will give you the rest of the money!" Kitsuchi was a little excited. He had seen the strength of these two; even if they couldn't kill the Third Hokage, they could still cause chaos in Konoha.

This money was well spent!!

Thinking of this, Kitsuchi's mood immediately improved, and the expression he showed the two men became somewhat friendlier.

At this moment, at the Akatsuki Organization base,

Pain looked at the empty conference room and fell into contemplation.

Konan explained, "Deidara went out to play."

...

In that very instant, without any warning, the space before the two, which had been as calm as water, began to twist violently, as if being kneaded arbitrarily by an invisible giant hand.

Accompanied by a heart-pounding fluctuation, a figure slowly stepped out from the twisted space.

The newcomer was clad in a black robe and wore a strange and mysterious mask on his face. It was Obito.

Seeing Obito appear, Pain and Konan simultaneously frowned, their eyes revealing vigilance.

Pain was the first to speak: "Uchiha Madara, what are you doing here?" His tone was cold, as if Obito's arrival was unwelcome.

Obito slightly raised his head, and a low, cold laugh came from beneath the mask: "Hehe, I merely wanted to come and see how the Akatsuki Organization is developing now. Also, do you have any information regarding Feng Ye?"

When the name Feng Ye was mentioned, although Obito tried his best to suppress his emotions, the faint thread of hatred in his words was still hard to conceal.

After all, ever since his confrontation with Feng Ye, he didn't even dare to easily enter the Kamui Dimension, which was his life-saving retreat.

Hearing the name "Feng Ye," Konan couldn't help but look puzzled. She asked softly, "Feng Ye? We know that he defeated the Cloud Shinobi."

However, Konan seemed to know very little about this person's background and strength.

At this point, Obito's voice sounded again, this time far more serious: "His strength is unfathomable and absolutely cannot be underestimated. If we allow him to continue developing, it will definitely have a huge impact on our plan!"

As he spoke, Obito unconsciously clenched his fist, clearly wary of Feng Ye.

Facing Obito's warning, Pain remained indifferent. His unique Rinnegan flashed with cold light as he glanced sideways at Obito and responded coldly, "Strong? Hmph, even if he is truly powerful, so what? In the end, he is nothing more than a mortal. Before my Rinnegan, any so-called expert will be utterly vulnerable!"

His words fully displayed Pain's extreme confidence in his own strength and his contempt for Feng Ye.

"Besides, he doesn't have a Tailed Beast," Konan added.

"If we want to successfully carry out this plan, we must first eliminate Feng Ye!" Obito said with a chilling gaze. This was his true intention hidden deep in his heart.

He was single-mindedly focused on using Pain's hand to eradicate the troublesome Feng Ye.

The loss of the power of Kamui was simply too significant for Obito, as it had always been the key element that added to his mysterious aura!

Now that this ability was lost, he seemed to have suddenly shed a layer of mystery, and both his strength and deterrence were greatly reduced.

Before this, Obito had personally gone to look for Kakashi, intending to check the condition of the Sharingan that possessed the power of Kamui.

However, much to his surprise, when he found Kakashi, he was shocked to discover that the priceless eye had vanished!

This sudden turn of events instantly ignited the fury in Obito's heart. He cursed uncontrollably inwardly: Kakashi, you useless waste! You couldn't even protect one Sharingan!

Faced with such a reaction from Obito, Konan, standing beside him, couldn't help but frown slightly and ask doubtfully, "Is the threat posed by this Feng Ye really that great?"

In fact, neither Konan nor Pain were foolish; they could naturally see right through Obito's intention to use them to kill his enemy.

Therefore, despite Obito's repeated persuasion, Pain ultimately refused his request outright and would not agree to take action against Feng Ye.

At this moment, Obito's expression grew increasingly grim and frightening. Ever since he encountered Feng Ye, the series of plans he had meticulously orchestrated had almost all been disrupted.

Originally, when he came to Akatsuki this time, he intended to recruit a few people to go and jointly eliminate Feng Ye.

But he hadn't expected that only Pain and Konan were left here.

"That Uchiha Madara seems quite wary of Feng Ye," Konan said to Pain after Obito left.

"Hmph. As long as he doesn't interfere with our plan, we don't need to pay attention to him. If he tries to stop us, I will kill him," Pain said dismissively. Even if Feng Ye defeated the Raikage, Pain would only regard him slightly higher.

Two nights later, on the Iwagakure battlefield, inside the Konoha Great Camp,

"Bang!" The Third Hokage slammed the intelligence report onto the table, his face boiling with rage. "Yan Yin Village!? How dare they!? Damn Uchiha!!"

Hiruzen Sarutobi's anger hadn't subsided in days; Feng Ye seemed to cause trouble every few days.

During this time, he had written stacks of letters and sent them to the Daimyo, but they had all vanished without a trace; the Daimyo hadn't even sent a reply.

He was utterly confused. He had asked Asuma, who said everything was normal on the Daimyo's side, so why had the Daimyo's attitude changed like this? Was it because he had witnessed Feng Ye's strength?

If this continued, Konoha might truly lose its legitimacy as the official power of the Land of Fire. Had Konoha truly weakened during his time as Hokage!!?

Could Konoha's foundation still stand against Feng Ye? The intelligence even claimed that Konoha was originally founded by the Uchiha and Senju Clan, meaning their legitimacy was well-deserved.
