Chapter 12 - 12

I still couldn't believe what had happened two weeks ago.

Honey had actually left.

No calls.

Nothing.

I leaned back more on my bed.

I've not been able to have a good night's sleep for the past two weeks.

The fear of the culprit coming back still crept in my mind.

I always stare at my window every night and day I'm in this room.

I'd installed a security protector around it to prevent anything like that from happening again.

Today, I decided to go grocery shopping. I haven't left this house ever since Honey left.

And at that moment, staying inside instead could protect me from the unknown – I guess.

My eyes caught speck of dust on my side table, the window and even my standing mirror, with wraps of chips and crumps on the floor and my clothes dumped in the hamper overflowing.

How come I hadn't noticed this.

Having changed my mind, I decided to clean up first before going shopping.

I tugged the duvet from my body, swinging my foot on the floor.

Instant pain surged through my body as my feet touched the floor, making my body slump back on to the bed.

"Meow."

Oh boy.

I'd mistakenly woken Moonie up.

She crawled towards me and crawled on my belly.

She stretched her body, as my fingers gently massaged her scalp.

"Guess who had woken up due to Kira's clumsiness."

I joked as she relaxed more into my belly.

"I'm just so tired, Moonie. These past two weeks had really worn me out. I ruined my long lasting friendship with Honey, and haven't received any calls from my boss about my whereabouts – if I'm coming back or not. I've been stressed out lately and I don't know what to do. I feel so stupid for ever letting my friendship with Honey break like that."

I just wanted everything out. Although animals can't speak nor can we understand them, it still felt like at least I had a listening ear by my side.

She tilted her head slightly as if trying to comprehend all that I had said, looking just cute.

I couldn't help myself but kissed her forehead a few times and patted her head before letting go.

She crept off my belly all of a sudden.

I didn't know what she was doing until she crawled to where my head rested on my pillows and started nudging my head with hers, as if trying to get me up.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the effort she was putting in.

With her strength, I was able to stand up from my bed. I turned to her and cradled her in my hands.

Pecking her head, I continuously thanked her then proceeded to start cleaning up my room.

And she helped out a lot.

She used her teeth to grab all the wraps on the floor.

"Don't do that." I scolded as she tried using her tongue to clean off the dust on my shelves, while I was vacuuming the floor.

I found it cute but it was a no go area.

Once done with the first part, I brought out some detergents from my bathroom cabinet.

The floral scent of the detergent flooded through the whole room and I felt relaxed at that.

Not trying to be weird, but I find comfort in the scents of the detergent.

We mopped, cleaned and arranged every nook and cranny of this room till I led to perfection – in my opinion.

I took my laundry in the laundry room and laundered everything at peace – apart from when Moonie nearly leaped into the washer.

After that, we finished cleaning the whole house.

I felt so relieved and tired but the floral scent in the house made me more relieved.

I quickly took a bath and also washed Moonie which I must say nearly landed me with scratches.

I put on a floral orange short gown with my brown boots and my hand bag which had enough space for Moonie to stay in comfortably.

Checking myself for the last time in the mirror, I twirled around proud of myself.

It was actually giving that summer vibes and I loved it.

Grabbing both my car and house keys, I left making sure my door was properly locked and headed to my car.

***

The nearest grocery store I found was like a 30 minute drive from my house.

Well that would cost me gas.

Parking my car in the parking lot, I stepped out.

But something felt strange.

The parking lot had a few cars around and kinda looked deserted.

Like the owners probably left them on purpose or…I don't know.

Inside I didn't see many people although with the amount of cars parked outside, you'd assume the store would be filled with many people but that was the opposite.

I made my way to the grocery aisle and picked out some food stuff and also got some snacks and pet snacks for Moonie.

After my search, I was done with picking out what I needed and went to the cashier to pay.

It was a young teenage girl. She looked worn out and already had dark circles around her eyes.

She also had piercings on her ears and one on her nose, with short black hair with dull brown eyes.

She must have had the night shift.

After I finished with the payments, I tipped her and walked out.

At least she was able to smile at that and thanked me.

I know how it felt to fend for yourself at an early age so I felt happy giving her the extra change.

But I'd noticed something strange in that store.

When I walked in, it was almost empty. Like only a very few people came to the store, but I couldn't understand how I turned back as I was walking out, all of a sudden the store looked filled with customers.

How come?

The bell on the door would normally ring once anyone enters the store but I didn't hear any the time I was shopping.

I shook that thought out of my head and walked to my car.

I'm just tired.

Reaching home, I unpacked everything I bought and kept them all where they all belonged and gave Moonie some snacks for being a good girl.

Everything seemed so peaceful for once.

After making sure everything was stocked properly, I went through my socials online to pass time.

Once night reached, I made sure to lock up everywhere and made sure to have a warm bath as bonus to keep that calm.

"Meow"

Moonie as usual crawled and curled up besides me.

Although these past 2 weeks was shallow, at least now I felt that peace I have been craving for.

A contented sigh left my lips before gradually falling asleep.
