Cherreads

Chapter 16 - her father.

Jairo quickly hurried to get out of his home, only stopping himself near the exit. 'Almost proved that I was perfectly fine five second from the minute I woke up.'

He stretched before getting into a more slouched position, taking not to stumble from time to time.

As he walked, he seemed mostly fine, though every so often, he stumbled or leaned on a wall.

Eventually someone walked up to him. An "Are you okey mister?" Caused him to turn his head, only for him to see someone extending a hand to help him.

It was a lady, well trimmed fur, with the standard pelt around the waist area and top area.

"Thank you but–" he was going to say no, but apparently he was causing a scene. Not a lot, but more people than expected were looking in his direction.

He was getting a mix of looks, from pity to annoyance. His willingness to be seen decreasing by the moment.

'If I reject the offer now, it feels like it would just cause more dissatisfaction. Besides, if it sells how out of shape I am, it can't be that bad right?'

Extending his hand, he let the the young lady help him. "Thank you miss." He said with a smile.

With that, they walked shoulder to shoulder, while he leans on her as little as possible.

"It's no issue. Just what caused this?"

"I was hit over the head during the first fight I was put in. Very bad luck, I'll tell you that."

She looked upwards. "It sounds scary. The battlefield seems like no place for me. I'd fake it out forever, run away perhaps. Look at what it does to people."

"I agree. I should've never been there in the first place. But now I'm all messed up. Here is some advice. Be at least a little prepared for a fight. You never know."

Eventually, they reached the village entrance, where the they parted ways. What a nice lady.

The moment he felt nobody could see him, his stumbling turned much faster.

As he had gotten closer and closer to Ariel's home, his limping had turned to jogging. Thinking about her expression when she saw him again, had brought him to a mad sprint.

What was her response going to be once she had seen him again?

Eventually, he had gotten to her house, and her wolves calmly looked at him. Bast was a girl. Constanly mean mugging, she looked like she wanted to attack always. Like resting bitchface for a wolf.

Regulus was to her right, looking much more calm in comparison.

'It's you again' reverberated in his mind. It was a more feminine sound, so he knew it came from bast.

A big smile formed onto his face. He wasn't going to let her negative attitude get in the way of his feelings. "I know you guys love when I come around. What else is there for you to do?"

They both looked at one another. Something told him they were poking fun at him.

Just then, they looked back at him. 'If you were an intruder we'd get free reign to tear you apart.'

'If any actual important guests are here we'd get more food than we get hiding your existence.'

They intend to keep going, but Jairo did not let them. Toning them out, he walked in between them. He opened the door, only to see a man on the tall and slim side, standing directly behind it.

He then walked through it as Jairo took a step back. His fur seemed flawless, like he had never seen a battlefield in his life. But his eyes told differently. He had murdered before.

Right now even as he gazed at Jairo with relative calm, he still had to hold his breath. His gaze pierced his soul as he spoke.

"Who are you, and why did you feel so comfortable as to enter my home without my permission?"

Jairo raised his hands. "I had your daughters permission, ser." He kept stepping back, but even then, his scared backsteps were met with calm steps forward.

"And what might you're relationship be with my daughter?" He said, tilting his head as one of his ears twitched. He seemed eager to hear the explanation.

"She's training me before I get sent off to war. I have to be ready, or I may die within days."

The looked closely at Jairo, analyzing any and all shaking and odd movements. "You're not telling the whole story."

Those words drained the life from his eyes. He went to explain again, but The wolf raised a clawed hand. "Not to worry, cub. This was my daughters fault for letting strangers in."

Just then, more footsteps came from the doorway, as Ariel ran close, before jumping up, throwing a kick in his direction that he dodged with fascinating ease.

Turning around, he saw his daughter. "How are you this mourning?" He said with an amused expression on his face.

"Don't play dumb with me. Why have you come here to intimidate a friend of mine?"

"Oh please. I simply wished to say hello to the new addition to your little… group."

He said twirling his finger in a circle.

"What was his name again?"

Sighing, Ariel walked forward pointing to Jairo, and to her father. "The boy is Jairo." She then looked to himself "Even though I've told you about my father Renly, I understand it may be a different and more uncomfortable experience to see him in the flesh."

Jairo sighed. "You're right about that miss Ariel."

He hated being formal, but right now he didn't wish to seem so close. As much as he liked Ariel and wanted to take things further, that required him being alive.

So far, her father was the scariest man he had met.
