Chapter 237: 256. The Founding of the Shrek Battle Team
After hearing the declarations from everyone, Xiao Wu began explaining her plan to them in detail.
When she finished, she said softly, "That's the plan. I hope all of you can cooperate with me."
Yu Tianheng voiced his concern. "Xiao Wu, during the Continental Soul Master Tournament, you'll undoubtedly face some Titled Douluo-level spirit masters. Your identity as a hundred-thousand-year soul beast will be impossible to hide from them."
Dai Mubai added, frowning, "He's right. We all want to help you get your revenge, but the Soul Master Tournament is far too dangerous."
Xiao Wu smiled reassuringly. "Thank you all for your concern. You don't have to worry—I'm already prepared."
She took out two immortal herbs and explained their effects. Then she handed one to Er Ming. "With this, even those Titled Douluo won't be able to see through my disguise as a spirit beast," she said. "The rest of our plan will proceed as discussed."
Meanwhile, back in his room, Tang San lay on his bed, mulling over the problem of losing the immortal herbs. A strange chill crept up his spine.
Ever since he had revealed his second martial spirit, Tang San could feel Xiao Wu's attitude toward him change.
That day, Xiao Wu approached him sweetly and said, "Ah San giegie, I didn't get a good look at your second martial spirit last time. Could you summon it again for me?"
Without hesitation, Tang San proudly called forth the Clear Sky Hammer. The heavy weapon landed solidly in his hand, and he showed off by swinging it a few times. "Xiao Wu," he said with pride, "this is my Clear Sky Hammer. What do you think?"
"Wow, this is the Clear Sky Hammer? Ah San giegie, you're amazing," Xiao Wu said with an admiring expression, though a glint of coldness flickered deep in her eyes.
Tang San didn't notice. "Having twin martial spirits means I can attach an extra set of spirit rings compared to other soul masters," he said confidently. "Once that happens, my power will rise at an incredible rate. There will be few in all the land who can oppose me."
He straightened, his voice filled with ambition. "Xiao Wu, when that time comes, your Ah San giegie will protect you with this Clear Sky Hammer."
Xiao Wu took his hand and said sweetly, "Thank you, Ah San giegie."
After she left, Tang San retracted the hammer, smirking to himself. Revealing my twin-spirit talent is paying off, he thought. She must realize now that my power and potential are far beyond those fools like Yu Tianheng or Er Ming. Her enemy is Bibi Dong—another twin-spirited powerhouse. She'll understand soon that only I can avenge her and destroy her enemies. Yes… she'll draw closer to me.
A satisfied smile curled across his lips.
Soon, Blue Tyrant Academy was formally restructured into Shrek Academy, and Flender took the opportunity to form the Shrek Eight Monsters Battle Team.
The eight were: Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, Oscar, Er Ming, Yu Tianheng, Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Ning Rongrong.
Aside from the main eight, there were three substitutes: Tai Long, Jiangzhu, and Jing Ling.
Yu Xiaogang stood before the team, hands clasped behind his back. In a calm, deliberate voice, he said, "Now, I will announce the captain of the Shrek Eight Monsters. A captain must be calm, clever, and adept at strategy—able to lead the team through the most perilous moments toward victory. Therefore, I declare Tang San the captain of the Shrek Eight Monsters."
As he finished, Yu Xiaogang turned toward Tang San with pride in his eyes. Flender and the others had debated whether to choose Yu Tianheng or Dai Mubai as captain, but Yu Xiaogang had argued passionately and secured the role for Tang San.
A Shrek team led by his prized student—his pride, his legacy. Tang San was more than a disciple now; to Yu Xiaogang, he was a son. And a son leading the academy to glory in the tournament would bring great prestige to the master-father who had taught him.
Tang San gave Yu Xiaogang a dismissive glance. Good, Gangzi, he thought. You did well. You've just earned yourself one piece of a divine ascension fragment. When I, Tang San, have collected all eighty-one fragments, maybe I'll consider bringing you along when I ascend to godhood.
Flender and Yu Xiaogang had expected some dissent from the others, but no one objected. Strangely, everyone accepted Tang San's appointment without question.
Thus, the Shrek Academy team officially began preparations for the Continental Soul Master Tournament, set to take place two years later.
Days passed; seasons changed. The tournament drew closer and closer.
Within Spirit Hall, word spread that the Pope herself would offer a hundred-thousand-year spirit bone as the prize for the champions. The news shook the entire continent.
A spirit bone of such level was priceless, and no one believed Spirit Hall would lie about it. Every major academy immediately turned its focus toward the tournament.
Each school began deploying its own talents and hidden tricks—each seeking advantage in its own way.
At Shrek, the reborn quartet had also heard the news.
"A hundred-thousand-year spirit bone? That wasn't how it went in our last life," Ma Hongjun said in surprise.
"It doesn't matter," Tang San replied sharply. His eyes gleamed with resolve. "Whatever happens, our goal is the same—champions. No matter what prize Spirit Hall offers, we'll make sure it ends up in our hands."
"Well said, Tang San," Dai Mubai responded, clapping him on the shoulder.
Elsewhere, in the Tianshui Academy, Shui Bing'er had just broken through to level 40.
To ensure she obtained the best possible fourth spirit ring before the tournament, a Douluo from the Shui family escorted her northward into the Extreme North in search of an appropriate beast.
But in the freezing realm of endless ice, a blizzard rose suddenly, separating her from her guardian.
When Shui Bing'er awoke, she found herself inside a magnificent palace of ice. In front of her stood an enormous green scorpion.
She recoiled instinctively.
"What's that look for? Do I seem so terrifying?" the scorpion asked irritably.
She could hardly breathe. The Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion—the legendary one!
But since the creature could speak, that meant it might be reasoned with. Gathering her courage, she bowed slightly. "Great spirit beast, may I ask why you brought me here? If my intrusion has offended your domain, I sincerely apologize. If there's any way to make amends, I will gladly—"
