Chapter 234: I Really Don't Want to Be an Evil Soul Master!
The phoenix clan's attributes were not as diverse as the dragon clan's—they reigned supreme over fire alone.
Phoenixes nested on parasol trees, and their immense vitality came from that sacred companion:
the Wutong tree.
Now, flames of life blossomed from the great tree, burning away the overflowing vitality that saturated the air above Star Dou City.
The once emerald sky reddened like molten clouds, but the blazing "fire of life" wasn't a true flame. It did not consume—it refined.
The parasol tree's fire absorbed and purified excess life energy, converting it into its own strength, performing a function similar to the Golden Tree of old.
This method had been crafted by the Phoenix God himself after studying the Golden Tree—a divine alternative for the phoenix bloodline.
As the tree devoured the surplus energy, its branches thickened, its trunk grew stronger, and the wild flood of vitality began to stabilize.
Even so, the life energy within Star Dou City was now twice as rich as before.
Previously, it had already been the most life-saturated region of the entire Douluo Plane. Now, it had reached an entirely new level.
After confirming that the concentration had returned to a safe balance, Brigitte exhaled in relief and called toward the tree. "Thank you, Feng Wu."
Feng Wu smiled shyly. "You don't need to thank me, Sister Brigitte. You gave me shelter—this is what I should do."
Watching her, Brigitte found a thought blooming in her mind.
She remembered that Feng Wu seemed fond of that young boy, Sima Jinchi. Perhaps some "training" could cultivate that bond further.
If Feng Wu could one day serve the same role as the Golden Tree—with the Lake of Life as support—she might even become the new Life Core of the Douluo Plane.
And if she married Jinchi, dragon and phoenix united? Even more perfect.
Still… that pairing did sound a little strange. According to human terms, what would that be? Taboo? Exotic?
Either way, she decided to consult Di Tian about it later.
His blockheaded disciple, after all, was literally a blade—he knew nothing of love, only duty.
If anyone could make that boy take the initiative, it'd take divine intervention.
…
At Douluo University, Yuanen Yehui shared a dormitory with Ye Zhi, Wu Duosi, Ye Xinglan, and Dai Lingyu.
Though there were five of them, the three-story villa was spacious enough to remain comfortable.
Ye Zhi looked around and scoffed. "That Na'er girl—why's she still hanging around with people from Douluo University?"
"Who's Jiang Chen anyway? Do any of you know him?"
Of course, they all knew about Na'er's departure. None of them could understand why the Sea God Pavilion Master's disciple had connections with Douluo University's crowd.
"I know a bit," Wu Duosi said.
She recalled traveling far to study not at Star Luo, but at Shrek Academy within the Federation itself.
They had both participated in the same Tianhai Competition. It was impossible not to remember him.
Especially since she was still bitter about her loss.
"He's Jiang Chen—a freakishly strong guy. His martial soul is the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger."
"Rumor said he was the offspring of the Huo clan's million-year soul beast and a human. Anyway, I couldn't beat him even if I tried."
"Just like… the Yuanen family," someone murmured.
Everyone turned to look at Yuanen Yehui, who had been quietly eating and avoiding the commotion.
They dragged her into their conversation under the pretense of "building team bonds" among the new generation of Shrek's Seven Monsters.
Yuanen Yehui pressed her lips together but stayed silent.
Everyone knew at least some of the dark history behind her family.
Their attention shifted to Dai Lingyu and Wu Duosi next.
Dai Lingyu blinked, confused. "Why are you looking at me?"
Ye Zhi crossed her arms. "Oh, I don't know. Maybe because the Huo and Dai families used to be one thousands of years ago? Weird how your family seems to love cat- and tiger-type martial souls."
"Ye Zhi!!" Dai Lingyu shouted and pounced, the two immediately devolving into playful brawling.
"I'm going to the bathroom!"
Without warning, Yuanen Yehui's face paled. She blurted it out and quickly rushed away.
Once she locked the door behind her, she could no longer suppress it.
A pair of curved horns burst from her head, followed by dark wings and a voluptuous shadow cloaked in icy aura.
Martial soul—Fallen Angel!
As the daughter of Yuanen Tiandang and Ye Hui, she had inherited not only the Titan Giant Ape martial soul but also the Fallen Angel.
Yet because the latter was considered a symbol of "evil" and linked to Evil Soul Masters, she had never dared reveal it before anyone.
She had never even cultivated it.
So why now—why today—was it suddenly awakening on its own?
"Damn it!"
She gritted her teeth, trying to suppress it, but her own soul was no longer fully under her control.
Then, in her mind's eye, she saw the faint image of her mother.
"Mother…"
Tears welled up, but before they could fall, a thunderous roar echoed from within her spirit.
The Fallen Angel's image shattered.
A crystal necklace around her neck flared with light, and the Titan Giant Ape martial soul emerged—forcefully suppressing the Fallen Angel.
It was common knowledge that Twin Martial Souls could never be used simultaneously. One always suppressed the other.
Once the Titan Giant Ape reclaimed dominance, the inner chaos faded.
Even so, Yuanen Yehui was exasperated. Her martial soul acting on its own—really? Could life get any stranger?
"Something must have happened to the family…" she muttered.
Then she clenched her fist. "Not that it matters to me anymore."
That family had killed her parents. She would never forgive them.
Even if her grandfather still doted on her, he had personally executed her father.
She didn't believe her mother had been evil.
But this—this second martial soul—was undeniable proof. Her mother had indeed been a Fallen Angel, an Evil Soul Master… and her bloodline carried that taint.
Her feelings were a storm of grief, hatred, and confusion.
Unable to face them, she'd run away to Shrek Academy, vowing never to summon that cursed part of herself again.
But now, inexplicably, it had come alive.
"Hmph! I'll kill you one day," she growled toward the malicious power sleeping within her body.
She'd rather give up her gift as a Twin Soul Master than become an Evil Soul Master.
The thought of revealing it terrified her—
Would Shrek expel or even execute her in the name of "justice"?
Would her grandfather treat her like he had her father?
"I really… don't want to become an Evil Soul Master!"
