[Congratulations on reaching LV.4. Choose a Developmental Ability: Hunter, Mage, Smith.]
Upon leveling up, a new prompt appeared. Roy frowned as he looked at the options.
Hunter: Increases stats when fighting monsters previously defeated.
Mage: Increases magic power and reduces mana consumption; a favorite for mages.
Smith: A blacksmith specialty; improves the quality of forged items and gear maintenance.
The first two were great. However, Roy realized that through his Synchronization Contract, he could already access Ryu's Hunter and Mage abilities. Choosing them himself would be somewhat redundant.
The "Smith" option caught his eye. Perhaps it was seeing Lord Goibniu work, but a small spark of interest in blacksmithing had ignited. He remembered how men in his previous life could watch an excavator work all day; he felt a similar draw to steel and ore. Furthermore, the Astraea Familia had no blacksmith; it fell to him to be the jack-of-all-trades. He chose Smith.
[Developmental Ability "Smith" acquired.]
Finally, he looked at the haul from his ordeal.
[Slew Aberrant Floor Boss Amphisbaena. Rewards: 4800 Attribute Points, Nine-Dragon Staff (Epic), and a Gold Chest!]
The 4,800 points were incompatible with his new Level 4 status, so the system automatically converted them into experience for his developmental abilities.
Adventure (G -> F)
Abnormal Resistance (H -> G)
Smith (I -> G)
He had jumped two ranks in Smith without ever striking a hammer. If the veteran smiths of Orario knew, they'd spit blood in envy. But it made sense—killing a Level 6 Floor Boss provided enough experience to break the limits of a Level 3.
Next, he turned to the Gold Chest. It was his first time seeing one; it seemed Level 6+ monsters were required to drop these. He opened it, and a brilliant golden light filled the room.
[Gold Chest opened! Rewards: Earth Magic Sword, Dao Fruit, Puppet Summon Card, Infinite Firepower Potion, Ghost Poison Potion!]
Earth Magic Sword (Epic): An unbreakable magic sword that touches the divine realm. When it strikes the ground, it can manipulate terrain, causing earthquakes or fissures up to 1km in range.
Dao Fruit (Legendary): Increases learning speed by a thousandfold for 24 hours.
Puppet Summon Card: Summons a puppet of a monster or adventurer previously defeated. The longer the battle lasted, the more accurate the data. It lasts for one hour. (3 uses left). Note: Puppets cannot enter dungeon worlds or earn rewards.
Infinite Firepower Potion...Infinite Firepower Potion
Rank: Epic
Description: Upon consumption, for one minute, all magic can be cast freely without consuming mental energy (Mana) or chanting. Magic power is increased by 50%!
Ghost Poison Potion (Gas Type)
Rank: Epic
Description: Upon use, all adventurers of Level 5 or below with Abnormal Resistance below Grade G within a five-kilometer radius will be lethally poisoned. Use with extreme caution.
Nine-Dragon Staff
Rank: Epic
Special Effect (Staff): Enhances magic power and reduces mental energy consumption.
Special Effect (Magic Sword): Capable of releasing three types of Dragon Flame: the inextinguishable Blue Flame, the magic-nullifying Red Mist Flame, and the frostbite-inducing Ice Flame.
The system panels popped up one after another. The sheer variety of rewards made Roy's head spin. As expected of a Gold Chest, it guaranteed at least one Legendary item. The effect of the Dao Fruit was straightforward: once eaten, he could learn anything he wanted—divine hieroglyphs, alchemy, various forbidden lores, or mastering swordsmanship to its absolute peak—all within 24 hours.
The Earth Magic Sword, while Epic-tier, felt closer to Legendary. Comparing its attributes to the Spirit Holy Sword, it was more versatile since it didn't require Spirit Royal blood. The Nine-Dragon Staff was the same—a top-tier hybrid of a staff and a magic sword.
Then there were the two Epic potions. Roy smacked his lips as he read the descriptions. Too overpowered. If he'd had that Infinite Firepower Potion earlier, he wouldn't have needed to play cat-and-mouse with the Aberrant Amphisbaena; he could have just used Ryu's Luminous Wind to carpet-bomb the area with millions of light orbs, turning a Level 6 beast to ash without spending a drop of Mana.
As for the Ghost Poison Potion... anyone below Level 5 would just drop dead! Roy actually chuckled. How many Level 5s were there in Orario? This potion was essentially a tool for indiscriminate mass slaughter.
However, what intrigued Roy most was the Puppet Summon Card—an item with an "Indeterminate" rank. Such items usually had a high ceiling but a low floor, depending entirely on how they were used. Roy stared at the card, and several character interfaces appeared, showing adventurers or monsters he had defeated: Goliath, Hyakinthos, Muzan Kibutsuji, the Spirit Soldier, the Aberrant Amphisbaena, Allen, Hedin...
Roy's gaze locked onto the final silhouette, and his breathing hitched.
Ottar!
