Chapter 40 - The final battle

Jia was tied to a chair in a dank and dismal room of an abandoned factory in the deep forest. A piece of cloth had been tied around her mouth as a makeshift gag, preventing her from speaking or making any noise. Despite the uncomfortable position she was in, she struggled desperately against her restraints, trying to free herself. The gag made it difficult for her to breathe and made any scream for help virtually impossible.

The room was cold and dark, the only source of light coming from a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The air was thick with the smell of dampness and decay, adding to the overall atmosphere of despair. The noise of her struggle became louder and louder, echoing through the room.

Just outside the door, two men who had been assigned to keep an eye on her became increasingly frustrated with the constant racket. In a fit of irritation, one of those two men threw open the door, entering the room with a scowl on his face.

The man walked over to Jia, who stopped struggling as soon as she saw him. He inquired sternly, "Will you stop making noise or not?"

Jia tried to speak, but the cloth in her mouth made it difficult for the man to understand her words. As he looked at her, frustration mounting, he removed the cloth from her mouth.

Then she spoke in a tone of irritation and complaint, "How rude are you? I'm freezing. Could you at least bring a heater for me?"

The man was taken aback by Jia's directness and the audacity with which she spoke to him. He had been expecting her to be more frightened and submissive, but her tone was anything but.

He replied in a sharp tone, "You're in no position to be making demands. Don't forget you've been kidnapped."

Jia, unbothered by his warning, retorted back in a frustrated tone, "So what? I've been kidnapped before, it's no big deal for me and—"

As she tried to respond further, the man quickly put the cloth back in her mouth, preventing her from speaking. He then turned to leave the room, obviously fed up with her attitude.

Then suddenly, two gunshots echoed through the area, cutting through the silence.

The man who had been stationed outside the room and the one preparing to leave the room both let out screams of pain as they were shot.

They both fell to the ground, lifeless.

Jia, who had been tied to the chair, flinched in shock as she saw the two bodies lying on the ground, one on the doorway and second just before her. She stared at them, her eyes wide with terror and disbelief.

Her attention was suddenly grabbed by the sound of footsteps running towards the room. As she looked up, Samuel barged inside with a gun in his hand, looking worried and alert.

Seeing Jia, he quickly rushed towards her, concern etched on his face.

In an urgent whisper, he exclaimed "Jia!"

While seeing Samuel there, Jia's shock deepened even further. Samuel glanced at the lifeless body he just shot and then at Jia. He quickly began untying her from the chair.

"Jia, are you alright? They didn't hurt you, did they?" Samuel's voice was filled with a mix of concern and anger as he worked quickly to free her.

At the same time Jia was trying to speak but because of the cloth on her mouth, her words were incomprehensible. Seeing this as soon as Samuel removed the cloth from Jia's mouth, she wasted no time firing off questions in a tone of surprise and confusion.

"How are you here,"

"And how did you manage to kill them?"

"Who taught you to use the gun?"

Samuel, hurriedly working to untie her, responded quickly. "Now's not the time for questions. You need to come with me. Hurry."

Once Jia was free, Samuel grabbed her wrist and quickly started leading her towards the door, urgently beckoning her to follow him. As soon as they exited the room, Samuel picked up the pace, quickly leading Jia away from the site.

Suddenly they heard the sound of approaching footsteps, and Samuel reacted quickly, pulling Jia behind the wall of the abandoned factory's hallway.

Once the footsteps faded away, Samuel released Jia's wrist and carefully stepped a few paces forward, holding his gun as he checked for any signs of danger.

Jia stood there in silence, watching as he did so. Just then, Samuel turned his head back towards Jia, signalling her to stay where she was before disappearing from her sight to check the path.

Jia was left standing there, her heart pounding as she looked around anxiously.

Unable to contain her fear any longer, she decided to follow Samuel despite his earlier gesture for her to wait.

She stepped out from behind the wall shield, cautiously looking around. As she advanced, she glanced behind her to see if someone was coming after her.

Just as she turned back to face forward, she involuntarily flinched, taken by surprise.

Someone appeared in front of her from nowhere, holding a gun pointed directly at her.

And when she realised, her breath stopped a beat.

It was Sarah.

The sight of Sarah, whom she hadn't seen in three months, filled Jia with a potent mix of surprise, desperation and longing. Her heart ached as she looked at the familiar face in front of her, someone she had missed greatly.

Sarah's face, however, betrayed no emotions and her gun remained pointed straight at Jia.

In the factory, in a separate large hall, Jae, Daniel, and their uncountable gang members were walking forward, facing Mia and Minho and their omnipotent gang members who were already standing there.

The space between them was thick with tension, the air heavy with the weight of the strained relationship between the two opposing groups.

Jae and Daniel finally stopped some distance away from the omnipotent gang and stood at the front of their gang members, their jaws set in determination as they observed the rival group in front of them.

Mia and Minho stood opposite, flanked by their own gang members, their expressions equally intense and resolute.

Both gangs were seemingly unarmed, appearing to have adhered to the condition of fighting without any weapons.

But Jae and Daniel's gang were sceptical about the agreement, having not completely relied on the opposing gang's words. They had come prepared with weapons, even if they weren't visible.

On the other hand, Minho and Mia's gang, seemingly devoid of any weapons, was keeping up the appearance of adhering to the agreement. However, they, who were observing the scene, were unaware of the weapons hidden on Jae and Daniel's side.

Minho's voice suddenly echoed throughout the area as he spoke, addressing Jae.

"So our suspicions were correct, you're the Shadow and Venom."

Both Jae and Daniel glared at Minho intently, their faces filled with hatred.

Mia, her voice laced with a hint of mockery, chimed in, "How does it feel to witness your own family members being gradually eliminated, one by one?"

The atmosphere in the room was charged with animosity, each gang member on edge as the verbal exchange escalated.

Then, Daniel retorted, "Since when have you cared about how we feel?"

Mia, turning her gaze to the other side, scoffed and then looked back at Daniel, saying, "Today, you'll all die. I won't care one bit about how you feel."

Just then, Jae spoke up firmly but with anger in his voice, "And do you think you'll survive?"

In response, Minho smirked and calmly chimed in, "Absolutely, we'll survive."

The tension in the room seemed to be at an all-time high, the confrontation growing more and more intense with each passing moment.

Listening to Minho's confident response, Jae scoffed before charging towards the omnipotent group, signalling everyone to start the fight. He shouted out loudly,

"Begin!"

The room erupted into chaos as the two gangs rushed towards each other, preparing to engage in a fierce fight.

The hall was now filled with the sounds of shouting, yelling, and the clash of bodies as the gangs engaged in a brawl.

It was a chaotic and violent scene as Jae's gang and omnipotent gang clashed, each side fighting ferociously to assert their dominance and protect their territory.

The air was filled with a mix of adrenaline, fear, and determination as individuals from both sides fought with everything they had.

The sound of punches and kicks filled the space, each side refusing to back down. The area was filled with the sound of grunts, curses, and the impact of blows as the battle continued to rage on.

The tension in the room was palpable, every member of both gangs determined to emerge victorious in this brutal conflict.

***

Outside the main entrance of the factory, which was surrounded by deep forest, Jackson and Bella stood with their gang members, including Sano Hiroto, and Kato ken and there were also Bella's gang members present.

Their attention was fixed on the opposing gang members standing directly across from them. Just then, Jackson suddenly dashed towards the omnipotent group, letting out a shout to signal the start of the fight. He yelled,

"Begin!"

As the words left Jackson's mouth, both gangs quickly charged forward, ready to engage in the violent confrontation that was about to unfold.

The air was filled with tension and anticipation as the two groups clashed, their fists and feet flying in a flurry of attacks and defences.

Jackson, Bella, and all their gang members were fighting with exceptional skill and vigour.

However, their opponents were also giving them a tough fight and were not easy to defeat.

Among them, Anica stood out as the strongest, her strength and fighting prowess evident as she overpowered many of the Jackson and Bella's gang members.

While Jackson was engaged in a fierce battle with his opponent, he caught a glimpse of Anica, who had managed to overpower many of their members. She was now moving directly towards Bella, who was busily fighting off her own opponents with kicks, punches and great fighting skills.

Just then, Anica suddenly launched a powerful flying kick at Bella, who was completely unprepared for the attack. The impact sent Bella tumbling to the ground, knocked off her feet by the unexpected blow.

Bella, surprised and bewildered, stared at Anica as she advanced towards her for another attack.

At that moment, Jackson shouted out to Bella in a loud voice, "Bella, be careful, she's very strong."

Bella, irritated by Jackson's remark, picked up a small rock and threw it at him, which Jackson quickly dodged.

Bella snapped back at him, "I'll break your face if you call her strong again. Focus on your own fight."

Just then, someone attacked Jackson from the front, but he quickly looked and dodged the attack before striking back.

While Anica quickly approached Bella, initiating a spin move, aiming to launch a powerful flying kick at Bella's head. However, Bella reacted with perfect timing, swiftly ducking down and rolling on the ground to dodge the attack.

Taking advantage of the moment, Bella immediately stood up and retaliated with a strong flying kick of her own, striking Anica on the head and causing her to stumble backward.

However, Anica quickly recovered and lunged at Bella once more, eager to continue the fight.

The two women engaged in a fierce exchange of attacks, both trading blows and counterattacks. It was a high-stakes match of strength and skill, with each fighter pushing herself to her limits.

Anica was indeed a powerful and strong opponent, and Bella was struggling to keep up. However, Bella refused to back down and continued to put up a fierce resistance, fighting with all her might.

The air was thick with tension as the two women continued to fight, their movements quick and precise as they each sought to gain the upper hand.

On the other side, Hiroto effortlessly overpowered all of his opponents, enjoying the fight without breaking a sweat.

Ken, with his years of experience, was also putting up a fierce fight, displaying a fighting style that left his opponents struggling to keep up.

Jackson, too, was systematically defeating his opponents with his exceptional fighting skills.

However, both sides were taking their toll on each other, as injuries and wounds started to accumulate.

The fight in the forest was intense and ruthless, with no mercy shown to anyone. The battleground was filled with the sounds of grunts, punches, kicks, and the occasional cry of pain as the fighters continued to exchange blows.

In the midst of their intense fight, Anica delivered a powerful punch to Bella, staining her mouth with blood.

Stumbling, Bella was breathing heavily and looked at Anica, admitting, "I have to admit, you're pretty tough."

While Anica began advancing towards Bella to attack her once more, speaking arrogantly, "Did you think I was a child?"

Saying this as soon as anica was about to attack Bella, just then, without wasting a moment, Bella swiftly dodged her attack and retorted,

"Oh No. My mistake. … In reality, I thought you're a scumbag because even children can be strong."

With those words, Bella unleashed a powerful flying kick that finally sent Anica crashing to the ground, her mouth now also bleeding.

Both Anica and Bella were covered in bruises from their previous attacks, but Bella refused to give Anica any respite. She quickly rushed towards her, landing another powerful kick to her head, sending Anica completely lay on the ground.

Exhausted but unwilling to give up, they were both panting heavily.

Bella then climbed on top of Anica and began raining down a steady stream of punches on her face.

Despite being exhausted, Bella continued her relentless assault on Anica's face, not giving her a moment to recover. Bella's continuous barrage of powerful punches had caused a steady trickle of blood to pour from Anica's face, but she showed no signs of wanting to give up.

Just then, Anica mustered all her strength and landed a powerful punch on Bella's face, causing her to stumble back a little. Bella's nose was bleeding even more now, but she quickly regained her composure and continued to rain down punches on Anica's face.

Bella's stubbornness and unwillingness to give up in spite of her many injuries was clearly evident, as she continued to fight on despite the odds.

However, Anica too was being worn down by Bella's powerful punches, and it was becoming increasingly clear that she was nearing her breaking point.

As Bella rained down punches on Anica, she suddenly noticed that Anica had stopped moving.

This realisation stopped Bella's punches, and she took a moment to catch her breath, taking deep, laboured breaths as she was clearly exhausted and injured from the fight.

With Anica rendered unconscious, Bella stepped away and leaned against a nearby tree, sitting there, her head bowed. And her body was trembling with exhaustion as she sat slumped against the tree, her breaths coming out in heavy puffs. The fight had taken a toll on her body, and she felt spent both physically and mentally.

However, the fighting was far from over as Bella was suddenly attacked by an opponent from the opposing gang. She quickly retaliated, standing up to face the challenge once more, showcasing her indomitable spirit that refused to surrender.

Alongside Bella, Jackson, Hiroto, and Ken, the rest of their members were still standing, battling fiercely and fiercely despite all the injuries they had sustained. They were giving it their all, as was evident from the fact that their opponents were being slowly overpowered and defeated one by one.

In the midst of an ongoing fierce battle, as Jackson was taking down each opponent that came his way, he suddenly let out a pained gasp, feeling something blunt driving into his back.

Another pained gasp escaped his mouth as the object was wrenched back out, only to be plunged back in again.

Jackson tried to turn to look behind him, ignoring the pain. And saw Anica standing there, covered in blood, and sporting a wicked smile, holding the knife which was stuck inside his flesh.

Jackson's face contorted with pain as his injured body struggled to respond to the repeated stabbing of his back. The sight of Anica's bloodstained and malicious expression only heightened his sense of urgency and danger.

***

In the large hall inside the factory, the intense fight between Jae, Daniel, and their gang against Mia and Minho's gang continued. The fighting was intense, with both groups giving it their all and determined to come out on top.

Jae was effortlessly dispatching his opponents, his fighting skills and style showcasing his mastery.

Just then, Minho himself charged towards him, launching an attack. However, Jae quickly spotted the attack and dodged it with ease.

With that, a battle between the two began, as the leaders of each opposing gang traded blows.

Jae, in his middle 20s, was more powerful and determined to win, which gave him edge. However, despite Minho's middle age, he was a formidable opponent, his years of experience and fighting style were not to be underestimated.

Minho struck Jae with a powerful punch, accompanied by a mocking and disgusted tone as he taunted him.

"If I had known about the Shadow theory years ago and that you were the Shadow, I would have killed you before your owner, so that you would not get a chance to stay alive after his death."

Hearing this, Jae was filled with anger, and his fury soared to unprecedented heights. He unleashed a fierce flying kick, sending Minho crashing to the ground in a matter of seconds.

The impact of Jae's kick was so strong that Minho was unable to get up for a few moments, leaving him temporarily incapacitated.

Jae, his anger palpable and unexplainable, advanced towards Minho, his words filled with bitterness and fury.

"And if I had known that you were the Omnipotent mafia Boss, I would have killed you the very day you became famous as a so-called director or producer!"

As he spoke, he grabbed onto Minho's collar, making him stand and began raining punches on his face without any sign of stopping.

However, in that moment, Minho mustered all his strength and delivered a powerful punch to Jae's stomach, causing him to stumble backwards.

As Minho advanced towards Jae, ready to attack again, he sneered, "You can't even touch a strand of my hair because you people have been wrong from the very beginning. It was your side that started this war."

But before Minho could strike again, Jae quickly blocked his attack and countered with a powerful kick, retorting,

"And it will be also my side that will end this war."

The fight between the two continued, each one determined to gain the upper hand through a flurry of powerful kicks, punches, and skillful techniques.

This was not simply a fight of victory and defeat, but a battle where the outcome would be determined by who was more relentless, more powerful, and more determined to claim victory, or...

A battle fueled by the desire for revenge.

And everyone present knew that this was the day it must end.

On the other side, Daniel, fighting with a mixture of determination, continued to overpower his opponents one by one. His heart, heavy with the memories of his lost loved ones and the pain of their absence, and it fueled his determination more as he fought.

With each opponent he defeated, he could feel the weight of his loss growing lighter, as he came closer and closer to his goal.

It was clear that for him, this battle was not just for victory or domination, but for something far greater.

As the hall had transformed into a battlefield, and the tension in the air was electric, the sound of fists and feet connecting with flesh continued to fill the air, and the determination of each participant was palpable. Every member of both gangs was fighting with everything they had, each strike and defence fueled by a deep-seated desire for retribution.

As the fight progressed, it was clear that Jae and Daniel's gang was gradually overpowering their opponents.

On the other hand, Mia, despite her injuries, could see that Daniel and Jae's gang were gaining the upper hand. She felt a surge of determination and quickly rushed through the crowd, moving with newfound urgency.

As Jae and Minho's intense fight continued, Jae had managed to weaken Minho significantly. Seizing the opportunity, Jae delivered a powerful flying kick to Minho's head, causing him to crash to the ground. Both of them were injured, but it was clear that Minho was in worse shape. His head was bleeding, and he had trouble moving.

He was struggling to get back up, his injuries making it difficult to gain his bearings. The impact of Jae's kick had left him disoriented, and the sight of his own blood only heightened his sense of helplessness.

Just then, as soon as some of Minho's gang members saw him lying on the ground, they quickly attacked Jae simultaneously.

With his focus shifted, Jae was momentarily distracted from the ongoing fight with Minho, and now had to defend himself from this new onslaught of opponents.

The fight between the two gangs showed no signs of stopping, neither side was willing to back down, and the hall continued to echo with the sounds of grunts, yells, and the impacts of fists and feet connecting with flesh.

While Daniel was engaged in his own fight, his gaze suddenly shifted to Minho, who struggled to his feet, signalling to a few of his members to follow him as he moved in a particular direction.

However, just as Daniel was about to approach Minho, he was suddenly attacked by an opponent, and before he knew it, more opponents were upon him. Daniel found himself in the middle, forced to defend himself against these adversaries.

***

Jia's eyes widened in surprise as she saw Sarah standing in front of her, a gun pointed at her. Without hesitation, Jia rushed towards Sarah with a desperate, longing smile on her face, calling out her name.

"Sarah!"

But before Jia could embrace Sarah, she was pushed back by Sarah, making her stumble. Regaining her balance, Jia looked at Sarah with a mixture of desperation and longing in her eyes.

Despite the gun pointed at her, Jia had no fear and still wanted to be close to Sarah. It was clear that she had missed her dearly, and her eyes pleaded for Sarah's attention and affection.

At that moment, Samuel appeared behind Sarah, his expression filled with a mixture of surprise, shock, and emotional turmoil.

For a brief moment, he froze upon seeing Sarah after so long.

However, he quickly composed himself and walked forward, pointing his gun at Sarah as he warned her, "Sarah, don't you dare do anything to Jia."

Just as Samuel's voice reached Sarah's ears, she let out a scoff without turning her head back towards him, her face expressionless.

Jia, upon seeing Samuel pointing his gun at Sarah, felt a pang of pain in her heart.

Sarah, gun still pointed at Jia, looked at her and asked, "Jia, if I shoot you, would that be a problem for you?"

Jia didn't respond immediately but continued to look at Sarah. The pain and darkness in Sarah's eyes were clear to see. Then, Jia took a step forward and grabbed the gun that was pointed at her, placing it against her own chest.

She spoke to Sarah in a pained, longing voice, "Sarah, now you tell me, would it bother you if I died?" Jia paused for a moment before adding, "I'm not alone anymore. I have a new life growing inside me."

The revelation about Jia being pregnant left Sarah momentarily stunned. For a brief moment, a hint of surprise and confusion sparked in her eyes.

Jia and Sarah kept staring deeply into each other's eyes, their expressions intense and filled with a range of emotions.

Meanwhile, Samuel stood behind Sarah, his gun still aimed at her, watching the scene with a heavy heart filled with pain.

Sarah broke the silence, scoffing bitterly and saying, "What difference does it make? I've already caused the death of a pregnant woman, why do you think I won't hurt you?"

As Jia heard Sarah's words, tears welled up in her eyes, and she swallowed hard before responding,

"You can't hurt anyone."

Sarah's own eyes filled with tears unwillingly, and suddenly her voice was shaky and filled with pain as she replied,

"But I have."

Sarah's admission spoke volumes about the guilt and pain she carried. Despite her current cold and detached demeanour, there was a deeper pain that she couldn't hide now.

Jia, seeing the tears in Sarah's eyes and hearing the shakiness in her voice, couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness and empathy.

Sarah spoke again, her voice heavy with pain and guilt. "I can hurt you too. I've come too far to turn back now."

Jia listened intently to Sarah's voice, laced with sorrow and pain. Samuel, standing behind Sarah, also heard her words. His expression remained stern, but there was a hint of concern and pain in his eyes.

Sarah continued, her voice choked with emotion, saying, "I've killed people. … people who were close to me. I'm not the same person anymore, Jia. I can't find a way back. Everything has changed."

Jia just listened intently without saying anything. It was as if she wanted to hear every word that Sarah had to say, as if she wanted to understand everything that Sarah was going through. After all, she had made a promise to Sarah that she would always be there to listen to her.

Sarah continued, her voice filled with sorrow and regret, "Everything changed the day I found out that my real parents were Aunt Mia and Uncle Minho. Since that day, everything has changed for the worse. Everything is ruined."

Jia was taken aback by Sarah's revelation, her mind racing to process the information. She tried to make sense of Sarah's words. Jia had no idea about Sarah's true origins as Sarah used to live alone since high school, the time when Jia met her for the first time, and Sarah always told her that she ran from the orphanage, and now this revelation completely shook her.

It was clear that Sarah's life had also taken a drastic turn, and the weight of her past weighed heavily on her shoulders. Jia wanted to understand the depth of Sarah's pain, the impact this knowledge had on her life, and how it had led her down this path of darkness and despair.

Sarah continued, her voice filled with bitterness and resignation, "Nothing can be fixed now, nothing at all."

Sarah then slowly moved her one hand off the gun, lifting her fingers to her temple head and tapping it.

"Everything is wrong here... it knew everything was going wrong, but it didn't stop anything."

With those words, the tears that had been welling up in Sarah's eyes finally started streaming down her cheeks. A wave of emotions washed over Sarah as she finally allowed herself to acknowledge the pain and despair that had been building up inside her.

The weight of her actions and the consequences they had caused had finally become too much to bear, and the tears streamed down her face, a stark reminder of the human beneath the facade of cold and detached emotionlessness.

Sarah continued, her voice filled with a mixture of frustration and despair, "You know what's strange? I can't seem to control it, like something else inside me is controlling everything. It's like I've lost control, and I have no idea how to regain it."

She placed her hand over her heart and continued, "And my heart … it's beating...but it's not alive now."

Sarah's words were laced with a sense of helplessness and defeat. It was clear that she was struggling with a battle within herself, a battle between her own self and the forces that seemed to be controlling her. Her heart was still beating, but the joy and warmth that should come with it were missing. It was as if the essence of who she was had been extinguished, leaving behind only a hollow shell.

Sarah suddenly withdrew the gun from Jia's chest, still holding it in her hand.

She spoke through tears, "People search for light in the darkness, but I inadvertently found darkness within the light."

Her eyes filled with regret and despair, she pointed to herself as she continued,

"It was always inside me, always waiting for the right moment to take over."

She forced a bitter smile, "I had some good things in my life... I found people who loved me, and I loved them too. I found you, Jia."

Jia listened intently, tears still streaming down her face, her gaze fixed on Sarah. There was a depth of emotion in Sarah's words, a mix of pain and longing that was palpable.

Sarah turned towards Samuel, her voice filled with love and pain, "I also found Samuel, someone I love dearly."

Samuel, who was standing behind her, was already looking at Sarah, his emotions reaching his chest, causing him to gulp, trying to control himself. For a few moments, their eyes met in an intense gaze.

Sarah then turned back towards Jia and smiled bitterly, saying, "You're my best friend, Jia."

Jia choked back a sob upon hearing these words.

"And Samuel is my love."

Hearing this Samuel felt a hint of pain in his heart, which literally hurt him.

Suddenly Sarah closed her eyes as she spoke with a bitter smile, "You know what I see right now?....A world where you are there. Samuel is there. All our friends are there. And I have different parents with whom I'm happy. A world without any darkness, where everything is positive, where life doesn't have any dark plots, where everything is alright."

There was a deep sense of yearning in Sarah's voice as she described this alternate reality. It was clear that she wanted nothing more than to escape the darkness that had consumed her and find peace and joy in this idealised world.

She kept her eyes closed, speaking in a quiet, almost wistful tone. "Every time I close my eyes, I see that other world. I want to go to that world, even if it means keeping my eyes closed forever."

She finally opened her eyes, her tears mixing with Jia's as their eyes met. She lifted her hand again and tapped her temple head with her fingers and said,

"But everything here is evil now. I've always defeated evil with love or light. But the evil within myself can't be defeated by love or light. It can only be defeated by darkness, a darkness which will end this evilness forever."

As Sarah spoke, a feeling of uneasiness washed over both Jia and Samuel. They both felt a sense of foreboding, as they looked at Sarah.

Just then Sarah spoke again, looking at Jia unfocused, "My life was nothing but hidden darkness within itself."

Hearing Sarah's words, before Jia and Samuel could think or do anything, in an instant, Sarah smiled bitterly and with a quick movement pointed her own gun at her own head.

And shot herself.

The gunshot echoed in the hallway, ringing in Jia's and Samuel's ears.

They both stood frozen in complete shock, their eyes wide with horror.

Sarah's body slumped to the ground.

The sight was harrowing, and a heavy silence fell over the hallway.
