The Defiance of a Monster
Chapter 40
Eidolon stood there.
Still.
Silent.
Like a broken statue.
Then-
"AAAHH-!!"
He gasped violently.
Air rushed back into his lungs as if he had been drowning.
His body shook.
His chest rose and fell rapidly.
"Haha..."
A laugh escaped him.
Unstable.
Breathless.
"What the hell... was that...?"
He clutched his chest tightly.
His fingers dug into his skin.
"A... magical word...?"
He laughed again.
Mocking.
Broken.
"Pffft... as if a dragon made of damn chains wasn't enough..."
His eyes slowly lifted.
Now burning again.
"You can actually control me like a to-"
"Naive fool."
The entity's voice cut through him instantly.
Cold.
Sharp.
Eidolon froze.
"Do you really think..."
The entity leaned forward on the throne.
"...I own that thing you called a dragon?"
Silence.
Then-
It burst into laughter.
"HAHAHAHAHA-!!"
"I wish I did."
Its voice twisted with amusement.
"Then I wouldn't be strapped to the back of a whining teenager..."
Its smile widened.
"...who cries about his miserable life..."
Each word hit harder.
"...yet can't change anything."
A pause.
Then-
The final strike.
"...because he still longs for his mother."
Tsk.
"Truly pathetic."
Silence fell.
Heavy.
Crushing.
Eidolon slowly lowered his head.
His gaze fixed on his hands.
They trembled.
Then-
They clenched.
Tightly.
"...."
No words came out.
The entity watched from above.
A wide, mocking grin stretched across its face.
Eidolon's eyes shifted.
Downward.
To the ground.
The dark energy beneath him.
Endless.
Moving.
Waiting.
Then-
It happened again.
The same power.
The same force that destroyed the coliseum-
Awakened.
Dark energy began gathering around him.
Slowly at first.
Then faster.
Then violently.
The air trembled.
The void itself reacted.
The entity's smile grew wider.
And wider.
Drool slipped from its mouth as it watched.
Excited.
Thrilled.
"Yesss..."
But then-
Something changed.
The energy didn't just gather.
It flowed.
Toward Eidolon.
Into him.
Deeper.
Faster.
Like the entire space was being pulled apart.
The entity's smile faded.
Its eyes widened slightly.
For the first time-
Something felt wrong.
Eidolon wasn't just using the energy.
He was-
Drawing from everything.
The ground.
The air.
The void.
Even the chains-
Trembled.
The entire space shook violently.
And then-
The entity's expression snapped.
Rage.
Pure.
Violent.
"DO YOU THINK YOU'RE MY EQUAL?!"
Its voice exploded across the void.
The throne cracked beneath it.
The chains rattled wildly.
Eidolon slowly raised his head.
His eyes-
Glowed brighter than ever before.
...
