The Word That Silences
Chapter 39
KINNN... KINNN...
The chains rang out.
A metallic cry.
Not from a mouth-
But from existence itself.
A warning.
A judgment.
A promise of death.
Eidolon stood frozen.
His body trembled.
Sweat dripped down his face.
But his eyes-
Still burned.
Bright purple.
Filled with rage that refused to die.
The chain dragon loomed over him.
Its jaws wide open.
Ready to devour him whole.
The air screamed under its presence.
"Keep that up..."
The entity spoke calmly from the throne.
"...and you'll truly die."
Eidolon's lips trembled.
"What... do you-"
"Solveth."
The word fell from the entity's mouth.
Ancient.
Heavy.
Absolute.
The moment it was spoken-
Something changed.
The purple light in Eidolon's eyes-
Extinguished.
Like a flame crushed by an unseen hand.
His body went still.
Silent.
Empty.
And the dragon-
Stopped.
Mid-motion.
Its massive jaws froze inches away from Eidolon's body.
The chains that formed it went quiet.
Not a single sound.
Not a single movement.
Time itself felt like it had been paused.
Eidolon's breathing slowed.
His rage-
Gone.
Not suppressed.
Not controlled.
Erased.
He stood there.
Blank.
As if something fundamental inside him had just been... turned off.
The entity leaned back on the throne.
Watching.
Observing.
Interested.
"You see..."
Its voice echoed softly through the void.
"You are not the one in control."
Eidolon didn't respond.
Couldn't.
His mind felt distant.
Heavy.
Like he had been dragged underwater.
The entity's gaze sharpened slightly.
"That word..."
It continued.
"...is not power."
A faint smile formed.
"It is order."
The chain dragon slowly lowered its head.
Not to attack-
But to obey.
Every link in its body moved with perfect precision.
Perfect submission.
Just like Eidolon.
"For now..."
The entity rested its chin on its hand.
"...you will remain alive."
A pause.
Long.
Uncomfortable.
"Because you are still... useful."
Eidolon's fingers twitched slightly.
Just slightly.
As if something deep inside him-
Was still resisting.
Still fighting.
Even now.
The entity noticed.
And smiled wider.
"Good."
Its voice dropped into something darker.
"Struggle."
...
