As per Aurora's plan, the lower floor of the largest chamber became their kitchen and dining area.
The natural stone staircase connecting the levels was too uneven for safety, so Asher and Kellen carefully carved the steps deeper and more evenly until they resembled an actual staircase.
Once the area was cleaned, Aurora chose the best location for a window and had another opening created in the cave wall. She didn't want the wind blowing directly through it, so she hung a thick hide across the opening as a curtain. It could be pulled aside whenever she wanted sunlight and closed whenever she needed privacy or warmth.
Asher and Reis built several sturdy wooden shelves according to her requirements and instructions, and she filled them with clay plates, bowls, cups, cooking pots, jars, dried herbs, spices, grains, preserved vegetables, and other food supplies. Seeing everything arranged neatly made her strangely happy.
