Just like Arthur said, he was swamped with editing work after they returned to the city. He even let Eugene use his car, since he wouldn't be able to drop off and pick up Hannah from school.
It wasn't the first time, so Eugene and Hannah weren't too saddened by it. They missed his cooking, but as usual, Arthur had filled their fridge with meal prep and side dishes — though it only lasted for four days.
But when Arthur suddenly stopped contacting them, it was different. He missed one video call, a sleep call, and there was no morning voice note greeting. Eugene narrowed his eyes in deep thought, and Hannah copied him while eating her scrambled eggs.
"You can't contact Daddy again, Papa?" Hannah asked after her father put his phone down.
"Yeah..." Eugene smiled and patted the disappointed girl's head. "It seems like your daddy is super busy."
"Poor Daddy..." Hannah sighed over her meal before clasping her mouth when he remembered that sighing was bad--or so her teacher said.
