Chapter 8 - "The night"

Yuri and Haru walk into the school dance that night in their fancy suits, and small accessories. They know they look good. They meet Mika and Yuna at the food bar.

"Hey! You guys look....sparkly..and..shiny..and...very, um..glittery."

He mumbles. Slightly taken aback by their glitter and sparkle. The girls nod

"Well..not to brag, but.."

Mika tucks a strand of hair behind her ear teasingly

"I know I look good."

Haru chuckles.

"Hey, wheres Sowoon?"

He asks, confused, when right on cue, Sowoon jumps in with his....'date.'

"Hello everybody! The great Sowoon has arrived."

He announces confidently. Holding onto a life-sized mannequin, probably stolen from a mall, in a tight, glittery dress, and a drawn-on face with..weirdly..long eyelashes.

"Meet my date."

He says, smiling half triumphantly, half teasingly.

"Oh, Sophia, you've got too much lipstick on!"

He teases. Shooting the others an 'I told you so' look before walking away, mumbling compliments to his 'date' and warning her not to talk to any of them.

Haru, Yuri, Mika, and Yuna all look equally stunned.

"That's...nice. For him, I mean....bad for my eyes."

Yuri mutters before smiling and taking Haru's hand. They walk over to get a drink, and go to sit down. Watching all the commotion, but mainly watching the romance drama playing on a large screen on one of the walls. It's pretty interesting, until something blocks their view.

"Riku?" Haru says. "Um..Hi!"

He mutters, trying to get some sunshine into his voice. Riku sighs and mumbles back

"Hey..I see you two worked everything out. No more..tension?"

Yuri shakes his head awkwardly

"Nope. It's all good now."

Riku nods, and the three of them fall into a tense silence. Yuri knows Riku is still jealous, Haru thinks he's mad at him, and Riku is fuming at the sight of the two guys.

"Actually, can I talk to you Yuri?" Riku says, not even waiting for a valid answer before pulling Yuri into a little private room with a couch.

"So..You're here with him?"

Yuri nods. He can't help but unconsciously smile at the thought of Haru's bright and cute demeanor.

"Yeah..it all worked out when I prom-posed to him."

Riku sighs

"Then what was it all about? That almost-kiss in our cabin during the festival camp? What did it mean?"

Yuri's smiles fades slowly.

"I don't know..but it can't mean anything anymore. I don't feel anything when I look at you anymore. At least, not the same feelings I have for Haru."

Riku nods. His eyes filling with a sadness that has followed him like a shadow ever since the camp.

"Well..go back to him then. Go..enjoy that feeling."

Riku walks away, ripping off his tie as he exits through the school gates. Despite all this tension, Yuri doesn't feel sad. He can't feel anything for Riku anymore, so instead of the sad moment of longing Riku had hoped to create that night, nothingness replaced it. Yuri shrugs and heads back to Haru.

"Come on. Let's dance."

Hours passed, and the time turned to 10:41 at night. Everybody's tipsy, the students are starting to file out of the place, and Sowoon is still drunk-dancing with his fake date. Yuri just chuckles and shakes his head at the scene. He turns to Haru

"Hey, stay at my place tonight. We're all drunk anyway, I'll get my driver to pick us up."

"Woah..driver?"

Yuri chuckles and nods. "Yup. Driver. It's pretty handy on nights like this."

-20 minutes later-

The car ride fills with a comfortable silence as the two ride back to Yuri's penthouse on the 20th floor. The tall, luxurious building starts to come into view as the car approaches. Haru's eyes widen.

"Woah!!"

The driver chuckles.

"Mr. Suzuki, we have arrived."

"Yeah, thanks Hiroto." Yuri says, and mumbles something in Japanese before exiting the car. Haru follows him along as they make their way up to the 20th floor by elevator.

Once they arrive, Haru can already sense the aura coming from the beautiful, custom-installed Genkan. They walk in. Inside is a beautiful, modern, but still traditional japanese home, with bamboo separators, a Tatami flooring, Futon bedding, and Kotatsu.

Yuri pads across the quiet hallway, loosening his tie with a tired grin. Haru steps in behind him, slipping off his shoes as he takes in every corner of the softly lit penthouse. There's a gentle scent of hinoki wood and something faintly sweet—like Yuri's laundry soap. The space feels warm, safe, and almost too perfect to be real.

"You really live here?" Haru whispers, still stunned.

Yuri laughs under his breath. "Yeah. Come on, let's just…sit for a bit."

They drop onto the futon couch next to the kotatsu. Yuri flicks on a small lamp, the warm light glowing over both of them. Haru sinks into the cushions like he's melting. After the loud music, glitter, chaos, and Sowoon spinning around with his mannequin "Sophia," the quiet feels like a completely different world.

Yuri picks a random movie—some soft romance-comedy—and sets the volume low. Haru pulls the blanket over their legs, letting the warmth seep in. For the first time all night, Yuri's shoulders fully relax. Haru watches Yuri out of the corner of his eye, noticing how the tension from earlier—Riku, the insane dance, all the confusion—finally drifts away.

Ten minutes pass. Haru leans a little closer. Yuri doesn't move away; instead, he tilts until their heads rest gently against each other. Neither says anything—they don't need to.

The movie hums softly in the background. Haru's eyelids droop first. Yuri feels the weight of Haru's head slowly settling onto his shoulder, making him smile lazily. He pulls the blanket a little higher.

"I've really fallen in love with an angel, haven't I?..Sent down to earth just for me."
