Kenneth huffed out a breath.
"Is it dead?" The girl asked, her eyes still strained ahead. "Someone should go check, right?"
"I don't think it's dead yet. Wouldn't the simulation have ended if it were?"
The cadet had a point.
Kenneth recalled that in video games, once the boss was killed, the gate would be cleared. So far, the cave showed no signs of movement.
Of course it's not dead, cause that would be too easy.
He took a step forward, motioning two of them to take his sides and the other two to hold the rear.
But before he could take another step, the ground shook.
Kenneth halted.
He didn't even have to look to know what was the cause of all the shaking and rumbling. It was clear their friend here was still alive and kicking.
Kenneth silently cursed to himself. You couldn't just stay down, could you?
His finger curled around the trigger, the barrel aligned with the target a little lower this time. He watched as the creature moved through the optics of his rifle.
