Kaido pulled his lips back, exposing a mouth full of sharp, bone-white fangs.
"Wororororororo." Kaido's maniacal laughter echoed through the canyon. "Finally, someone decent shows up. Otherwise, this little business trip would have been a total bore."
He removed his foot from Vegeta's chest, hefting the broken Hassaikai over his broad shoulder. The desire for battle burned fiercely in his chest.
In the sky, the green clouds were violently ripped apart by an invisible force. Massive wind pressure descended from above as a colossal, saucer-shaped spaceship broke through the cloud cover. The enormous shadow instantly swallowed the entire ruin.
The ship hovered directly above Kaido. The backdraft from its thrusters sent rubble flying in all directions. With the heavy grind of machinery, the massive vessel came to a steady halt in mid-air. A circular hatch on the bottom silently slid open, and a sleek, egg-shaped hoverchair slowly descended.
Sitting in the chair was a petite creature. A white carapace covered a purple, dome-like head. A thick tail flicked lazily over the edge of the seat.
Frieza. The Emperor of the Universe had arrived in person.
He looked down from his high vantage point at the devastated ruins. His gaze swept over the critically injured, dying Vegeta, and then over Ginyu, who lay with a dislocated jaw and a body full of shattered bones. Disgust swelled in Frieza's chest. He had kept these dogs fed for years, yet they couldn't even handle a few backwater natives.
Finally, his blood-red eyes locked onto the ten-meter-tall Kaido.
"So, you are the one who broke my playthings?" Frieza's voice was quiet, even retaining an air of forced elegance. Yet, his soft tone effortlessly cut through the roar of the ship's engines, ringing crystal clear in Kaido's ears.
Kaido rested the half-broken Hassaikai back on his shoulder. He tilted his massive draconic head back, his dark gold pupils sizing up Frieza from top to bottom. He stared for a full three seconds.
"Wororororororo!" Kaido erupted into deafening, riotous laughter, shaking the loose rocks around him. "I was wondering what kind of incredible monster was showing up!" Kaido snorted a jet of scalding white steam, pointing a massive, uncouth finger right at Frieza's nose. "So you're this 'Emperor of the Universe' that Dodoria was crying about right before he died? You look like a stunted little runt! You've got the nerve to put on airs in front of me with a shriveled little skeleton like that?"
Kaido's mockery was utterly unfiltered. In the One Piece world, size often directly translated to absolute intimidation. Whether it was Whitebeard or Big Mom, they were all built like mountains. This tiny midget sitting in a baby carriage failed to inspire an ounce of reverence in him. He honestly felt that a single swing of his club would grind this guy's bones into dust.
In his hoverchair, the corner of Frieza's eye twitched. His pale hand, resting gracefully on the armrest, suddenly clenched. The reinforced alloy crumpled, leaving deep finger indentations.
It had been years. Years. No one had ever dared use such words to describe him. The last planet that showed him such disrespect was reduced to cosmic dust, along with every single living organism on it.
"Vulgar wild monkey." Frieza's voice finally took on a trace of genuine murderous intent. He didn't even bother standing up. He simply raised his right hand and extended an index finger.
A blinding purple light flared at his fingertip. No charging up. No shifting of air currents. Just a hair-thin Death Beam firing instantaneously. The beam's speed far surpassed the absolute limits of Kaido's Observation Haki. It didn't even leave a scorch mark in the air.
Squish.
The sickening sound of pierced flesh echoed. A blossom of blood erupted from Kaido's broad left shoulder. The sheer kinetic force pushed Kaido's massive frame half a step backward.
He looked down at the clean, see-through hole in his shoulder. The purple Death Beam hadn't just pierced the scales of his Demon Dragon Body; it had completely vaporized the muscle and bone in its path.
On his hoverchair, the cruel smirk returned to Frieza's face. He loved watching arrogant natives display expressions of absolute despair in the face of absolute power. He waited. Waited for the giant to scream and collapse, to writhe in a pool of his own blood like Ginyu.
But Kaido didn't fall. He simply stared at the bloody hole in his shoulder for a moment.
"Is that all the power you've got?" Kaido scoffed. His muscles suddenly locked tight. Black and red Conqueror's Haki surged like tangible tentacles, instantly wrapping around the wound. Accompanied by the horrifying, grinding sound of bone and flesh, the pulverized tissue inside the hole began to writhe wildly.
Bones reconnected. Blood vessels and muscle fibers knitted themselves back together at a speed visible to the naked eye. In just the blink of an eye, the wound was completely healed. Even the shattered, black-magma scales regenerated, gleaming flawlessly without leaving so much as a scar.
In mid-air, the smile froze on Frieza's face. For the first time, a flicker of genuine shock crossed his blood-red eyes. His proud, piercing attack hadn't even managed to seriously injure the beast. Even the immortal Namekians required massive amounts of stamina to regenerate limbs, but this horned monster healed as casually as taking a sip of water. What on earth was the biological makeup of this creature?
"How interesting." Frieza abandoned his contempt. He slowly rose from his hoverchair, floating freely in the air. "Your regenerative capabilities are even greater than those green-skinned Namekians. However, such parlor tricks are entirely meaningless in the face of absolute power."
He tilted his chin up slightly, his tone carrying the weight of a death sentence. "Remember the one who kills you. My power level... is 530,000."
530,000. In the Frieza Force, that number represented pure, unadulterated despair. Ginyu's 120,000 was already enough to sweep across the vast majority of planets. But 530,000 was an astronomical figure that eradicated even the thought of resistance.
Lying at the bottom of the pit, the last spark of light faded from Vegeta's eyes when he heard that number.
But Kaido's reaction shattered everyone's expectations. He didn't feel fear. He didn't feel despair.
"'530,000!?'" Kaido roared. "'Fantastic! Simply fantastic!'"
Kaido abruptly straightened up. The pitch-black Demon Dragon scales covering his body all stood on end, emitting a chilling, metallic scrape. His dark gold pupils locked onto Frieza in the sky.
"530,000!" Kaido roared, the sheer volume of his voice pulverizing the surrounding rocks into dust. "I'm taking that 530,000 head of yours today!"
Before his voice even finished echoing, Kaido's massive legs exploded with power. The bedrock of Namek cratered instantly, forming a massive depression dozens of meters wide. The colossal Demon Dragon frame turned into a streak of black-and-red lightning, launching straight into the sky.
He gripped the broken Hassaikai with both hands. Holding nothing back, he poured every ounce of his Conqueror's Haki into the weapon. Followed by an apocalyptic sonic boom that tore the atmosphere apart, he swung it directly at Frieza's pale, delicate face.
