The air inside the hidden entrance to the Dwelling of Spirits was heavy, thick with the scent of ancient moss and an overwhelming concentration of pure, unrefined magicules. It was a stark contrast to the bustling, orderly streets of the Kingdom of Coleus or the familiar, cozy classrooms of the Freedom Academy.
Rimuru Tempest took a deep breath, adjusting his scarf as he looked back at the five children walking closely behind him. Kenya, Ryota, Gale, Alice, and Chloe were all staring around the cavernous entrance with a mixture of wide-eyed wonder and palpable nervousness. They had traveled a long way from Ingrassia, and the weight of their unstable conditions still loomed over them, but the promise of finding a way to stabilize their souls kept them moving forward.
Beside Rimuru walked Shizue Izawa. She looked calm and radiant, a gentle smile gracing her features as she occasionally reached down to pat Chloe on the head. Ever since she had achieved complete, perfect synchronization with the flame spirit Ifrit, her health had been completely restored, and her presence exuded a comforting, warm aura that kept the children's anxieties at bay.
"We are finally here," Rimuru said, looking down the dark, twisting tunnel that seemed to plunge into the very heart of the earth. "According to the coordinates, this should lead us directly into the labyrinth where the higher spirits reside."
Kenya puffed out his chest, trying to look brave as he gripped his wooden training sword. "Don't worry, Rimuru-san! If any bad monsters show up, I'll chop them right down!"
Alice rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Oh, please, Kenya. You'd probably trip over your own feet before you even swung that stick. I'll be the one protecting everyone with my puppets."
Rimuru chuckled, shaking his head at their usual banter. He turned his attention back to the path ahead, a slight frown crossing his slime-born face. 'Man, I'm glad the kids are in high spirits, but we still have a major logistical issue to solve here,' he thought.
He looked over at Shizue, who was looking at him with a questioning glance.
"Hey, Shizue-san," Rimuru started, scratching the back of his neck. "Before we left, Loki told me that in order to get the higher spirits for the kids, we absolutely have to meet someone named Demon Lord Ramiris. He said she is the overseer of this entire place. But the problem is, he didn't give me a map, a calling card, or even a basic set of directions. How exactly are we supposed to find a Demon Lord in a massive, ancient labyrinth like this?"
Shizue tilted her head, her beautiful dark eyes filled with a thoughtful expression. She rested her chin in her hand, considering the sheer scale of the cavern systems around them.
"Indeed, it is a conundrum," Shizue said softly, her voice echoing gently against the stone walls. "If this Ramiris is a Demon Lord, she likely resides in the deepest, most secure sanctuary of the labyrinth. Without a guide or a specific tracking skill, we could be wandering through these intersecting tunnels for weeks before we even find a trace of her presence."
Rimuru let out a loud, dramatic sigh, slumping his shoulders. 'Seriously, that guy Loki always leaves out the most important details. He probably thought it would be funnier to watch us get lost,' he thought to himself.
"If only the Demon Lord would just show herself right now, it would save us a massive amount of running around," Rimuru complained aloud, throwing his hands up in the air.
The moment the words left his mouth, a sudden, sharp shift occurred in the ambient atmosphere.
Both Rimuru and Shizue stopped dead in their tracks. Their internal danger sensors violently flared as a massive, dense wave of localized magical energy suddenly rippled through the cavern walls. Shizue's hand instantly dropped to the hilt of her sword, her posture shifting into a flawless, battle-ready stance. Rimuru narrowed his eyes, his casual demeanor completely evaporating as he extended his arm backward, signaling the children to immediately take cover behind a large rock formation.
Deep within a hidden, highly secure observation chamber hidden behind a thick, illusionary stone wall just fifty meters away, a tiny, pixie-like figure was currently hovering in mid-air, rolling around and laughing hysterically.
Ramiris, the Fairy Queen and one of the oldest Demon Lords in existence, was having the absolute time of her life. She was clutching her stomach, her translucent, butterfly-like wings fluttering at terminal velocity as she stared at a glowing magical projection screen showing Rimuru and Shizue's frustrated expressions.
"Ahahaha! Look at them! They are completely clueless!" Ramiris squeaked, her high-pitched voice filled with immense pride and mischief. "They come walking into my glorious labyrinth, completely uninvited, talking about wanting to meet me? And that blue-haired kid actually thinks he can just call me out like I'm some kind of common errand girl! How completely insolent!"
She flew over to a massive, glowing metallic lever positioned on the central control panel of her chamber. Next to the panel stood a colossal, imposing shadow that completely dominated the room.
"But they have no idea what's waiting for them!" Ramiris gloated, pointing a tiny, dramatic finger at the monitor. "Loki was super nice and gave me a bunch of awesome tips, rare materials, and weird magical calculations to upgrade my guardian! He said the old one was way too fragile, so we rebuilt it from the ground up! This new and improved Golem of mine is literally one million times stronger than the one I used to have! There is absolutely no way it's going to lose to a couple of random intruders! Go get them, my super-awesome robotic ultimate weapon!"
With a mighty grunt, Ramiris threw her entire body weight against the lever, slamming it down.
Back in the main cavern, the ground suddenly began to violently violently shake. Massive cracks spread across the stone floor, and a thunderous, mechanical roar echoed from the darkness of a wide, intersecting tunnel directly ahead of Rimuru and Shizue.
The children gasped, huddled tightly together behind the boulders as Gale and Ryota kept themselves directly in front of Chloe and Alice to protect them.
"Sensei! Something huge is coming!" Kenya shouted, his eyes wide.
Out from the darkness stepped a truly monstrous entity. It was a high-tier mechanical Golem, but its design was entirely anomalous compared to traditional magical constructs. It stood over fifteen feet tall, its entire chassis forged from an ultra-dense, iridescent black magisteel alloy that seemed to actively absorb the ambient light. Glowing crimson runic pathways, humming with a bizarre, rubbery stability inspired by Loki's unconventional logic, laced across its joints. The machine lifted its colossal, hammer-like arms, its glowing visor locking directly onto Rimuru and Shizue.
With a deafening mechanical shriek, the Golem lunged forward with speeds that completely defied its massive weight, its fist cutting through the air with the force of a localized meteor strike.
"Shizue-san! Take the children back a bit! I'll handle the front line!" Rimuru yelled, his body shifting fluidly as he drew his blade, imbuing the steel with a dense layer of aura.
"Understood, but I am not leaving you to fight this alone, Rimuru-san!" Shizue replied firmly.
The Golem's fist crashed into the ground exactly where Rimuru had been standing a microsecond prior, completely pulverizing the stone into a crater of fine dust. Rimuru materialized in mid-air directly beside the Golem's head, executing a hyper-fast sweeping slash.
"Sticky Steel Thread! Water Blade!" Rimuru commanded.
Dozens of high-tensile threads shot out, wrapping tightly around the Golem's torso while a high-pressure crescent of water sliced directly toward its neck. However, the moment the attacks made contact, the crimson runes on the Golem's armor flared brightly. The kinetic force of the water blade was suddenly absorbed and redistributed through the chassis, and the steel threads were instantly snapped by an explosive burst of pure, localized thermal energy.
'What the heck?! This thing's armor pathways are completely absorbing my elemental output!' Rimuru thought, flying backward to dodge a sweeping counter-strike from the Golem's massive left arm. 'Great Sage, analyze this construct!'
[Report: The target is a high-tier Magisteel Golem. However, its structural formula has been heavily modified with unique, physics-defying reinforcement parameters. Traditional elemental dispersion is highly inefficient.] the mechanical voice of the Great Sage resonated within his mind.
"Alright, if standard magic won't cut it, let's bring in some serious muscle!" Rimuru declared. He placed his hand on the ground, calling forth a deep, spatial summoning circle. "Come forth, Ranga!"
With a thunderous howl that shook the entire cavern system, a massive, majestic wolf emerged from the shadows of Rimuru's soul. Ranga's black-and-white fur crackled with violent arcs of black lightning, his golden eyes burning with unyielding loyalty.
"I am here, My Master!" Ranga roared, his massive tail wagging once with enough force to create a minor gale before he locked his sights onto the Golem. "Allow me to tear this arrogant pile of metal to absolute shreds!"
"Ranga, use your lightning to disrupt its internal circuits! Keep it distracted!" Rimuru ordered.
"As you command!"
Ranga bolted forward, transforming into a blur of black lightning. He leaped across the cavern walls, unleashing a continuous, devastating barrage of Death Storm and localized thunderbolts that slammed directly into the Golem's back. The electrical overload caused the Golem's crimson runes to flicker violently, its mechanical movements slowing down as its automated defensive systems struggled to process the sudden, massive influx of external energy.
"Now, Shizue-san!" Rimuru shouted.
Shizue stepped forward, her expression completely serene as she drew her longsword. She took a deep breath, opening the absolute floodgates of her soul core. Instantly, a pristine, blindingly bright golden-crimson flame erupted around her entire body. Unlike the wild, destructive infernos of the past that used to threaten her sanity, these flames were perfectly controlled, dancing elegantly along the edge of her blade like a fluid extension of her own will. She was in absolute, flawless synchronization with Ifrit.
"Incineration Slash," Shizue whispered.
She glided across the battlefield with absolute grace, passing directly beneath the Golem's swinging arm. With a single, fluid motion, she delivered a succession of incredibly precise, hyper-concentrated slashes directly against the Golem's knee joints. The temperature of her flame, backed by Ifrit's localized dominion, was so immensely high that it completely bypassed the magisteel's heat-absorption runes, melting the dense metal pins like warm wax.
The Golem let out a metallic screech, its left leg buckling completely as it fell to one knee.
"Finish it, Rimuru-san!" Kenya cheered from behind the rocks, the kids completely captivated by the spectacular display of combat.
Rimuru materialized directly above the fallen machine, his right arm transforming into a massive, swirling vortex of dark, predatory energy. He combined his aura with the concentrated force of his internal storage systems, preparing a finalized, heavy physical strike to shatter the core.
"Take this! Hell Flare Impact!" Rimuru yelled, slamming his hand directly into the center of the Golem's chest plate.
The combined force of Ranga's continuous electrical disruption, Shizue's precision thermal melting, and Rimuru's absolute kinetic impact was far too much for the modified machine to endure. The internal core, unable to redistribute the sheer, overlapping volume of data, violently fractured.
With a loud, sputtering mechanical groan, the crimson runes across the Golem's chassis completely went dark. Massive cracks webs across its chest, and with a final, echoing pop, the fifteen-foot titan completely collapsed into a harmless, shattered pile of smoking black metal pieces.
The battlefield fell completely silent, save for the crackle of a few remaining embers and Ranga's soft, victorious panting as he walked over to lick Rimuru's cheek.
"Good job, Ranga," Rimuru chuckled, wiping the slobber off his face before turning to Shizue. "Are you alright, Shizue-san?"
"I am completely fine, Rimuru-san. The kids are safe as well," Shizue replied, sheathing her sword with a satisfied nod.
Suddenly, a loud, dramatic clicking sound echoed from the wall directly ahead of them. A hidden stone panel violently swung open, and the tiny, pixie-like figure of Ramiris burst out of the opening.
She was flying haphazardly through the air, tears streaming down her small face like comical little waterfalls as she threw her hands up in absolute, hysterical despair.
"Noooooooo! Impossible! This completely defies all scientific and magical logic!" Ramiris wailed, tossing herself onto the remaining pile of the Golem's shattered chest plate, pounding her tiny fists against the metal. "That was my absolute ultimate masterpiece! It was supposed to be one million times stronger! Loki swore to me that his blueprints were completely foolproof! How could you just break my favorite toy into pieces like that?! You guys are absolute monsters! Unfair! Totally unfair!"
Rimuru and Shizue both walked over, standing side by side as they stared down at the weeping, tiny fairy with completely deadpan, utterly baffled expressions.
Rimuru blinked once, twice, pointing his finger down at the tiny creature who was currently throwing a full-blown toddler tantrum on the floor.
"Hey, Shizue-san..." Rimuru said, his voice dripping with pure, unadulterated disbelief. "Who the hell is this ridiculous little brat?"
Ramiris's crying instantly stopped. She froze entirely, a cold shiver running through her tiny frame as she slowly, awkwardly turned her head upward. Her large, glittering eyes locked directly onto Rimuru's thoroughly unimpressed gaze and Shizue's looming, powerful presence.
In her hysterical panic, she had completely forgotten to maintain her majestic, intimidating Demon Lord persona. The realization hit her like a sudden, freezing splash of water.
'Uh oh,' Ramiris thought, her tiny wings twitching as a massive bead of sweat formed on the back of her head. 'I... I think I might have completely messed up.'
