She went quiet long enough for me to notice how hard her chest was rising and falling, like I'd just thrown her a question big enough to leave her scrambling for an answer.
Her eyes darted nervously around the room. Mine eventually dropped for a second before lifting back to her.
I released a slow breath. "You know I'm starting to wonder…"
"Good night, Your Highness." She cut me off before I could finish.
Wait. What? Your Highness?
The next thing I knew, she'd grabbed the shawl from the bed, wrapped it tightly around herself, and lay down with her back facing me.
"Hey."
She didn't answer. In fact, she shifted a little more comfortably, making it painfully obvious she had no intention of saying another word tonight.
"Seriously?"
Still silent. I could've pushed. Normally, I would've. But somehow, being around this chaotic girl had started making me do things I'd never do in my right mind. And the terrifying part was, I didn't think I hated any of it.
