I kept my eyes on him, waiting for the catch, the sudden twist, or the corporate conditions he was going to attach to the vacation days. But there was nothing. He just kept driving, leaving me completely unsure of what to do with his sudden softness.
"Stop here," I said quickly, pointing to a empty stretch of curb two blocks away from my building.
Cassian tapped the brakes, slowing the car down but frowning as he looked ahead. "Your building is further down the block."
"I know where my building is," I said nervously, my chest tightening as I saw a familiar figure standing near the iron gates down the street. "Just stop here. Please."
He pulled the car over to the curb, shifting into park before turning his full, demanding attention toward me. "Explain."
"My mother will see you drop me off, and she'll start asking a million questions," I said, the words tumbling out in a messy, disorganized rush.
