Chapter 229 - Chapter 229 : Loot

The remaining Parademons immediately fled toward the Boom Tubes.

Daniel watched them disappear into the sky. "Where the hell do you think you're going?"

He slowly brought his hands together into a familiar hand sign.

"Domain Expansion..."

An overwhelming pressure descended across the battlefield. The earth trembled. An ancient black shrine rose behind Daniel, its massive structure manifesting directly into reality.

Unlike ordinary Domains, no barrier formed around it — the shrine stood openly on the battlefield, extending its range across the surrounding area.

"...Malevolent Shrine."

The sure-hit effect activated.

The Parademons had barely flown a few dozen meters before invisible slashes filled the sky. There was nowhere to dodge. There was nowhere to hide.

The first Parademon split cleanly in half. The second was reduced to dozens of pieces before it even realized it had been struck.

Then the entire swarm was engulfed — countless invisible slashes tearing through the sky, shredding every fleeing Parademon into fragments.

Wings, armor, and weapons rained from the air as the sure-hit effect relentlessly pursued every target within range.

Within seconds, not a single Parademon remained alive.

Daniel lowered his hands. The shrine slowly faded and the overwhelming pressure vanished with it, leaving only silence over the battlefield.

"So... is everything over?" Barry asked as the orange lightning around him faded, looking around to make sure no Parademons remained.

Bruce slid the folded Batarang back into his utility belt and surveyed the ruined landscape. "It should be."

Daniel shook his head. "Not quite." Everyone turned toward him. "We still have one job left." He looked at the three Mother Boxes lying on the ground. "We have to make sure these things are never united again."

He walked over and picked one up. "I'll keep one with me, but the other two can't stay anywhere near it. The three should never exist in the same place again."

A black gate leading to the Underworld opened beside him. Without hesitation, he tossed the Mother Box through it before the portal closed.

He paused for a second. "I really should've thought of this earlier."

The Underworld existed in a completely different dimension — as long as the Mother Box remained there, no one on Earth would ever be able to reach it.

Daniel looked at the remaining two. "Well, two are left. Who wants them?"

His eyes settled on Batman.

Compared to everyone else standing here, the person Daniel trusted most with something this dangerous was Bruce. Batman's greatest strength wasn't his gadgets or his intellect — it was his discipline. Bruce never compromised unless the world had already reached the point where there was no other choice.

"I'll take one," Bruce said, stepping forward and picking up a Mother Box.

Daniel nodded before looking at the last one. "One left."

Barry immediately shook his head. "I'm out." He took a step back from the cube. "Central City already has enough metahumans running around. If the wrong person gets their hands on that thing, we're all finished."

Clark stepped forward. "I can keep it safe." He glanced at the Mother Box. The Fortress of Solitude was isolated — no one would be able to find it there.

Daniel tossed him the final Mother Box. Clark caught it with one hand.

"Good. Let's make sure these things never unite again."

Clark had been holding back a question since the battle ended. "There is something I'd like to ask."

He glanced toward the unconscious blonde woman nearby. The symbol on her chest was unmistakable — it belonged to the House of El. "Who is she?"

Daniel looked at Clark before shrugging. "How the hell am I supposed to know?" He really wasn't in the mood to explain everything that had happened.

Before Clark could ask anything else, Kara suddenly opened her eyes. Without warning, she lunged forward and wrapped both arms around Daniel's neck.

Everyone instinctively tensed.

Daniel let out a helpless sigh. "She's violent to the core. Until we figure out what's wrong with her, she's basically a walking time bomb."

He grabbed Kara by the shoulders, pulled her off his neck, and threw her away. She flew several meters before crashing into a pile of rubble.

Clark looked at him with a bewildered expression, silently asking how he could treat a woman like that.

Daniel noticed the look immediately. "Don't look at me like that. Do you know what she put me through?"

He pointed at the hole in the front of his shirt. "See this? She made it by punching straight through my heart." He looked at Clark. "And I'm a modern person. I treat all genders equally."

Diana rolled her eyes. She knew Daniel wasn't exaggerating — if someone else had inflicted those injuries on him, that person would already be dead.

The only reason Kara was still alive was because Daniel extended that particular courtesy to women. Had it been a man standing in her place, the fight would have ended very differently.
