"By the way, does this meteor have metal?" Rhaegar asked with a slightly excited tone. After all, with a meteor of that size, he didn't believe there wasn't any metal. If it did, he could build a set of meteorite iron swords and armor for House Targaryen.
"Of course it does, but meteorite iron isn't as strong as you imagine." Cadmus said calmly; the meteor really had metal in its core, but, contrary to what people imagine, a sword made of metal from space easily created fissures, just like the famous Damascus steel.
(Note: I recently discovered this, which greatly disappointed me; who would have thought that Damascus steel and meteorite steel weren't as incredible as the legends.)
There was a reason why all modern army knives were made of one steel; it was a metal alloy much better than any other medieval sword or even armor.
Cadmus looked at Arthur Dayne behind Rhaegar, more specifically at the sword on the Kingsguard's waist. "Dawn isn't exactly made of meteorite metal; it's a fragment of a planet's core fused for millions of years in the extremely hot core, which was cooled when some planet exploded."
Rhaegar didn't quite understand Cadmus's words, he just felt that Dawn was even more extraordinary, which left him somewhat admired and disappointed; the dream of creating new legendary weapons failed before it even began.
"Don't be so sad, brother." Daenerys, seeing her brother seem somewhat distracted, knew he was sad and comforted him. "In this war, there will be some Valyrian steel weapons; we can steal them."
Cadmus's and Rhaegar's lips twitched at the mention of stealing ancestral weapons so casually. However, it was actually a good idea.
"We can steal, melt, and House Targaryen will gain new Valyrian steel weapons." Daenerys said with a laugh, she narrowed her eyes adorably and perhaps because she was drunk, she seemed more adorable than ever.
"Do you think everyone is foolish? Isn't it too much of a coincidence for House Targaryen to gain a Valyrian steel weapon when another Valyrian steel weapon was lost in the war?" Rhaegar said with a helpless tone. However, Daenerys's words still echoed in his mind.
A list of targets appeared in Rhaegar's mind, especially from enemy Noble Houses.
Lady Forlon of House Corbray!!!
Rhaegar quickly found the target and smiled, but didn't show any of his expression. After all, stealing wasn't something to be proud of, especially in front of his sister and brother-in-law.
"So, when will I be an uncle?" Rhaegar asked, looking at the newlyweds with a smile.
Daenerys touched her belly and looked at Rhaegar with an annoyed look; her flushed cheeks became even redder. "If you hadn't interfered, we would be in bed and would only come out after a week."
As a newlywed wife, she wanted to be by her husband's side all the time, so Rhaegar asking Cadmus to deal with foreign mages the morning after her wedding night was quite annoying in her eyes.
Rhaegar's smile stiffened at Daenerys's words; he looked at Cadmus with pity and admiration. He never thought the mage was so… powerful?
Before the king's admiring gaze, Cadmus coughed and felt a little embarrassed; after all, saying he would have sex for an entire week with a friend's sister wasn't the wisest thing to do.
"No more wine, you greedy dragon." Cadmus took the wine glass from Daenerys's hands and made the girl use his lap as a pillow. Daenerys pouted, dissatisfied at having her wine cruelly taken from her, but soon felt a little sleepy and relaxed with her head on his lap.
"Were all the mages killed?" Rhaegar looked fondly at his sister sleeping on Cadmus's lap and asked in a lower tone, afraid of waking Daenerys.
"All but the leader were killed. Stregobor is being tortured so I can extract information about Ban Ard." Cadmus stroked his wife's silky, fragrant hair and spoke in a calm tone.
"After all, I killed thirty mages; that's not a small number, not to mention how rare mages are. Since we've become enemies, let's go all the way and destroy Ban Ard." Cadmus certainly knew how arrogant mages could be; he didn't believe that a bunch of medieval men could be so magnanimous as to ignore their own reputation and be called cowards.
Rhaegar nodded and agreed with Cadmus's words. He was furious to know how arrogant these mages were in invading a Noble House as if it were nothing. These mages feared nothing, which was worrying.
"How is the war situation?" Cadmus asked curiously; he could notice that Rhaegar was more tired than usual.
Rhaegar didn't answer and threw a paper to Cadmus, who caught it in the air and read the content with a curious look.
"It seems your father's Master of Whisperers is more dangerous than expected." Cadmus commented, reading Monford Velaryon's report on the Naval War and the news from the Ravens coming from Storm's End.
Rhaegar's face darkened at Cadmus's words; the image of Varys appeared in his mind. "I should have been king at the Tourney of Harrenhal, but Varys whispered to my father that I was about to stage a coup, which led my father to Harrenhal."
"And you weren't?" Cadmus asked with a smile. Rhaegar was indeed about to usurp the throne; Harrenhal was merely a meeting point for Rhaegar's allies to gather without signs of rebellion and enter King's Landing discreetly, without bloodshed.
"Yes, but everyone else was too; everyone was already fed up with my father's madness." Rhaegar didn't deny it and spoke in a calm tone.
"I'm curious, why did you run away with Lyanna? You are an intelligent man and knew the consequences of these actions. House Baratheon rebelled for less, with Lyonel Baratheon, not to mention that Robert was even worse than Lyonel Baratheon." Cadmus asked with a truly curious tone.
After spending some time with Rhaegar, he discovered that the king was not a passionate idiot who only thought with his lower head. Rhaegar was colder and more indifferent than he expected, not to mention his cruelty.
So, Cadmus was really confused why Rhaegar would risk so much for a woman, not to mention a woman engaged to the heir of House Baratheon.
"To tell the truth, I was really stupid at the time," Rhaegar said with a helpless tone. "I didn't imagine that Robert would actually rebel; his reputation for screwing everything with a hole made me think he didn't care much about his fiancée."
"You know the result of that."
Cadmus nodded. The result was the most brutal civil war since the Dance of the Dragons. The Targaryen Dynasty was about to be destroyed, and if it weren't for Arthur Dayne protecting the king and fighting Robert, he knew what the result would be.
The Targaryen dynasty destroyed, Viserys and Daenerys exiled to Essos, and the one who sat on the Iron Throne would be Robert Baratheon.
"What's the feeling of stealing an engaged woman?" Cadmus asked with a mischievous smile, making Rhaegar's lips twitch. Arthur, who was behind the king, also showed a smile, but quickly returned to being the serious and solemn Arthur Dayne.
"I want to rest, my good brother." Seeing Cadmus's provocative and amused look, Rhaegar said with a helpless tone.
Cadmus shrugged and picked Daenerys up in his arms; she unconsciously settled into a comfortable position in his arms, and Cadmus left the room.
Before leaving, Cadmus smiled at Rhaegar with a provocative look and said with an amused tone: "Please stay away from my wife; I don't trust you near an engaged woman."
A vein grotesquely pulsed on Rhaegar's forehead. He regretted having said those things to Cadmus; the mage would provoke him for a lifetime because of it.
Rhaegar sighed and looked at Arthur, who was behind him, with his hand on the hilt of his sword, always ready to protect him.
Feeling the king's gaze, Arthur said with a smile. "Your Grace, I don't have a wife."
Rhaegar clenched his teeth and felt that having two friends like Cadmus and Arthur was really stressful.
