Chapter 219 - Punk Hazard - 11

The heavy, reinforced doors of the Biscuit Room slid open with a soft hydraulic hiss, breaking the tense quiet that had settled over the giant playroom.

Nami, Chopper, Usopp, Bonney, and Robin all turned their heads simultaneously. Their tension instantly melted into relief as Ben strolled through the doorway, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his jacket.

Right behind him bounded Sunny, followed by Franky, then Brook, then Caroo, and finally, Oimo, who was carefully cradling the sleeping pink dragon, Momonosuke, in his arms.

"Yo," Ben greeted casually, scanning the room. He noted the giant children chained securely to the candy pillars, currently snoring peacefully under the effects of Usopp's sleep-inducing pellets. "Looks like things got a little chaotic in here. What did we miss?"

Usopp let out a long, deeply exhausted sigh, his shoulders slumping as if he carried the weight of the entire world. He walked over to Ben, his face a portrait of pure misery.

"What did you miss?" Usopp repeated, his voice hollow. "Well, for starters, the giant kids in here are sick because Caesar has been feeding them highly addictive, lethal stimulant drugs disguised as candy to turn them into artificial giants."

Ben's expression darkened slightly, his eyes narrowing at the chained children. "I see. The 'Master' truly was a piece of trash. Good thing I already took care of him."

"Wait, you beat Caesar?!" Chopper gasped, his eyes shining with immediate relief.

"One punch," Franky grinned, giving a thumbs up. "The guy went down like a sack of bricks. Ben locked him away in his spatial pocket."

"Oh, thank goodness!" Nami cheered, pressing her hands to her chest. "That's one massive problem solved!"

"But wait, there's more!" Usopp interrupted, his voice raising an octave as panic began to re-enter his system. He pointed a trembling finger toward the hallway. "Our glorious, fearless, completely unhinged captain just made a formal pirate alliance with Trafalgar Law!"

Ben raised an eyebrow. "Law? Interesting. An alliance to do what, exactly?"

"TO TAKE DOWN KAIDO OF THE BEASTS!" Usopp shrieked, his voice echoing off the brightly colored walls.

A brief silence fell over the arriving group. Brook's jaw literally dropped off its hinges and clattered against his collarbone. Caroo quacked. Franky whistled a low, impressed tune. Oimo merely smirked, shifting the sleeping dragon in his arms.

Ben, however, did not look surprised. In fact, a smile spread across his face. His eyes glinted with the thrill of an incoming challenge.

"Kaido, huh?" Ben chuckled softly. "Good. I was getting tired of swatting away small fry. I was waiting for a chance to fight a truly strong opponent in this New World."

The confidence in Ben's voice caused Usopp's brain to completely short-circuit. The sniper lunged forward, grabbing Ben by the collar of his jacket and violently shaking him back and forth.

"THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!" Usopp roared, tears streaming down his face as he rattled the magician. "I want you to say it was a terrible idea! I want you to say, 'Usopp, you're so right, let's go stop Luffy before he gets us all killed!' Why are you smiling?! He's an Emperor of the Sea!"

Ben easily stopped Usopp's frantic shaking with one hand, gently prying the sniper's fingers off his jacket. "Calm down, Usopp. There is nothing to be afraid of. We are the Straw Hat Pirates. We've leveled up. And honestly, if the worst comes to pass and we die in glorious battle... what is there to be worried about? Death is just the next great adventure."

Usopp stared at Ben, his face draining of all remaining color. His pupils shrank to tiny dots.

"Die...?" Usopp whispered, his voice trembling violently.

If Ben, the man who could allegedly see the threads of fate, was casually talking about dying...

"ARE WE GOING TO DIE?!" Usopp shrieked, dropping to his knees and clutching his head in sheer terror. "DID YOU SEE IT?! DID YOU SEE US GETTING CRUSHED BY A KAIDO! OH MY GOD, MY LIFE IS FLASHING BEFORE MY EYES!"

Ben completely ignored the sniper's theatrical breakdown. He simply stepped over Usopp's groveling form and walked smoothly across the room toward Robin, who was leaning against a block of giant candy with a small, amused smile playing on her lips.

"So," Ben murmured, stopping in front of her. He leaned in, his voice dropping to a softer, more intimate register. "How was the adventure on the burning side of the island?"

Robin crossed her arms, tilting her head slightly as she looked up at him. "A bit boring, honestly. We ran into a dragon, but the captain dealt with it before I could even study it. And a few centaurs, which were mostly just loud. I was really hoping we would face a giant, world-eating serpent."

Ben chuckled, reaching out to tuck a stray strand of dark hair behind her ear. "A world-eating serpent? Your tastes are getting quite extravagant. But who knows? The New World is vast. Maybe we will get to see one in the future."

Robin's smile widened slightly, her dark eyes flashing with a playful glint. "I will hold you to that promise."

In the background, Usopp had retreated to a dark, shadowy corner of the playroom. He sat facing the wall, his knees pulled up to his chest, tracing circles on the floorboards with his index finger. A literal, cartoonish rain cloud had materialized above his head, pouring a steady stream of gloomy water exclusively onto his bandana.

"Idiot captain..." Usopp muttered, sniffling pathetically. "Idiot crew members... everyone wants to fight monsters... nobody appreciates the subtle art of running away..."

A heavy, deliberate footstep echoed behind him. Usopp paused his drawing, sniffling again, and slowly turned his head.

Standing behind him was a giant little girl. She had short, light green hair and wore a hospital gown that was entirely too small for her massive frame. She looked down at the sulking sniper, her large eyes filled with genuine, childlike concern.

"Mister Long-Nose?" the giant girl asked, her voice timid. "Why are you crying? Did the scary men in the hazmat suits hurt you too?"

Usopp froze. He looked at the giant girl, then at the tears on his own cheeks. The pride of the brave warrior of the sea instantly flared to life, overriding his terror of Kaido. He could not look pathetic in front of a child.

Usopp quickly wiped his eyes, stood up, and placed his hands firmly on his hips. He let out a deep, boisterous laugh, throwing his head back dramatically.

"Hurt me?! Gahahaha! Nonsense, little one!" Usopp declared, puffing out his chest. "I am Captain Usopp! The bravest warrior to ever sail the Grand Line! These are not tears of fear! These are the heavy, burdensome tears of a tragic hero!"

The giant girl blinked, sitting down cross-legged on the floor, completely mesmerized. "A tragic hero?"

"Indeed!" Usopp said, closing his eyes and turning his back to her, looking out toward the ceiling with a profound, fabricated sorrow. "You see, my captain has just tasked me with a mission of unparalleled danger. I must single-handedly journey to the land of Wano and slay an immortal beast known as Kaido. But alas... every time I swing my mighty hammer to strike down a villain, I am forced to remember the countless millions of adoring fans I leave behind! My heart weeps not for myself, but for the beautiful maidens who will mourn my inevitable departure!"

The giant girl gasped, her hands flying to her cheeks, her eyes sparkling with pure awe. "Wow! You are so brave, Captain Usopp! You cry because you care too much!"

Usopp peeked over his shoulder, a massive, smug grin stretching across his face as he realized she had bought the lie hook, line, and sinker. "Exactly! Now, gather around, little one, and I shall tell you the tale of how I wrestled a sea king with nothing but a single rubber band!"

As Usopp spun his ridiculous tales, distracting the frightened children from their grim reality, a massive, deafening explosion rocked the entire facility. The floorboards beneath them trembled violently, and dust drifted down from the ceiling.

Ben looked toward the steel doors, his Observation Haki flaring outward, piercing through the walls of the laboratory.

"Looks like Law found his dance partner," Ben murmured.

---

Miles away from the Biscuit Room, the once-pristine confines of Caesar's private office in Building D had been reduced to an apocalyptic warzone.

The heavy desk was splintered into thousands of jagged wooden shards. The reinforced steel walls were covered in deep, precise lacerations and massive, cratered dents. Sparks showered from the ceiling as severed electrical cables thrashed wildly in the air.

In the center of the destruction stood Trafalgar Law. He breathed heavily, his spotted fur hat pulled low over his eyes, his grip tightening around the hilt of his oversized nodachi, Kikoku.

Across the room, standing amidst the rubble of a shattered velvet couch, was Vice Admiral Vergo. His pristine white coat was gone, revealing a muscular physique completely coated in a dark, metallic sheen. He held a long, hollow bamboo stick in his right hand, the wood completely blackened by advanced Armament Haki. The half-eaten hamburger patty was still absurdly stuck to his cheek, entirely undisturbed by the intense combat.

"You have grown, Law," Vergo said, his voice entirely flat, devoid of any inflection or emotion. "But your Devil Fruit relies entirely on spatial manipulation. It requires stamina. And against my Haki, your cuts are meaningless."

Law gritted his teeth, wiping a thin trail of blood from the corner of his mouth. "We'll see about that, Vergo."

With a swift motion of his hand, Law generated a swirling, translucent blue sphere of energy that instantly expanded to cover the entire office.

"ROOM!"

Vergo didn't wait. He kicked off the floor with explosive force, utilizing Soru. The ground shattered beneath his boots as he vanished, becoming a blur of motion.

Law's eyes darted left. He swung his nodachi precisely at the empty air.

"Amputate!"

A localized spatial tear ripped through the room. Vergo materialized directly in the path of the invisible blade, but instead of dodging, he simply raised his Haki-coated bamboo stick. The spatial cut slammed into the blackened wood, creating a massive shockwave that blew the remaining glass out of the office windows. The bamboo didn't even scratch.

Using the momentum of the block, Vergo spun his body in mid-air, thrusting his index finger forward with lethal precision.

"Shigan!"

A bullet of compressed air shot toward Law's head. Law reacted instantly. He pointed two fingers at a piece of shattered wood debris lying on the floor.

"Shambles!"

With a sharp snap, Law's body warped out of existence, instantly swapping places with the debris. The Shigan bullet obliterated the wood into sawdust.

Law reappeared directly above Vergo, falling gracefully from the ceiling. He brought his nodachi down in a vicious, two-handed overhead strike.

Vergo didn't even look up. He executed Geppo, kicking off the empty air itself with a concussive boom, propelling his body sideways. Law's blade struck the floor, cleaving a massive, bottomless trench straight through the steel plating.

Before Law could recover his stance, Vergo rebounded off the wall like a missile. He closed the distance in a second, his Haki-coated bamboo stick swinging in a brutal horizontal arc aimed straight for Law's ribs.

Law couldn't swap out in time. He brought his sword up to block.

CLANG!

The impact was deafening. The overwhelming blunt force of Vergo's strike vibrated through Law's blade, sending a sickening shockwave up the Warlord's arms. Law was thrown backward, crashing violently through three thick, reinforced concrete walls before skidding to a halt in the adjoining laboratory sector.

Law coughed up blood, his knees buckling slightly as he forced himself to stand. Vergo stepped slowly through the massive holes in the walls, his heavy boots crunching against the rubble.

"You rely too heavily on tricks," Vergo stated coldly. He raised the bamboo stick to his lips, exhaling sharply into the hollow tube.

FWOOSH!

A highly compressed, explosive dart shot out from the bamboo, flying toward Law at breakneck speed.

"Tact!" Law shouted, raising his hand upward.

A massive, multi-ton steel centrifuge ripped itself out of the floorboards, levitating instantly to intercept the projectile. The explosive dart struck the machine, resulting in a blinding, fiery detonation that rocked the entire sector.

Using the smoke screen, Law lunged forward, sliding across the slick, metallic floor. He charged the tip of his nodachi with high-frequency electrical energy, the blade buzzing like a terrifying surgical saw.

"Radio Knife!"

Law thrust the electrified blade forward, aiming directly for Vergo's chest. This technique was designed to bypass traditional Haki defenses, severing the target's anatomy in a way that prevented them from reattaching themselves.

Vergo's eyes narrowed. He recognized the danger.

Instead of blocking with the bamboo, Vergo dropped his weapon entirely. He widened his stance, flexing every single muscle in his body. In an instant, his skin, his clothes, and even his sunglasses turned a deep, glistening obsidian black. He coated his entire body in full, maximum-density Armament Haki.

He thrust both of his hands forward, catching the electrified tip of Law's nodachi directly between his hardened palms.

The electrical current surged wildly, lightning arcing across the room, scorching the walls and shattering the overhead lights. But Vergo stood firm, his full-body Haki completely neutralizing the surgical frequency of the blade.

"Foolish," Vergo muttered.

Vergo twisted his wrists, violently wrenching the nodachi to the side, throwing Law entirely off balance. With terrifying speed, Vergo brought his knee up, burying his Haki-hardened kneecap directly into Law's stomach.

The Warlord let out a choked gasp, his vision whiting out from the agonizing pain.

Vergo followed up immediately, grabbing Law by the collar of his coat. He spun around, executing a devastating judo throw, slamming Law head-first into the unyielding steel floor. The impact cratered the ground, sending a spiderweb of cracks spreading in all directions.

Law lay in the rubble, his breathing ragged, blood pooling beneath him. His grip on his sword had loosened.

Vergo picked up his fallen bamboo stick, walking slowly toward the downed pirate.

"Joker was right," Vergo said, raising the blackened bamboo high above his head for a lethal, finishing blow. "You never stood a chance. You are a loose end. And now, you will be erased."

Law lay on the ground, his eyes half-closed. His body was screaming in pain. But as he looked up at the descending bamboo stick... a faint, bloody smirk touched his lips.

Vergo had made a fatal miscalculation. He believed his overwhelming Haki was impenetrable. He believed he controlled the pace. He didn't realize that Law had spent this entire grueling, brutal fight perfectly positioning him.

"You talk too much, Vergo," Law whispered.

Law's fingers twitched.

"ROOM."

This time, the blue sphere didn't just cover the room. It expanded with terrifying, exponential speed. The translucent dome surged outward, passing through the walls, through the ceiling, through the foundation. The sphere grew until it encompassed the entirety of Building D, the massive, mountain-sized facility glowing with a faint, ethereal blue light.

Vergo swung the bamboo down with all his might.

In a fraction of a second, Law shifted his body an inch to the left, allowing the bamboo to smash into the floor directly beside his head, burying itself deep into the steel.

With his remaining strength, Law grabbed the hilt of Kikoku with both hands. He channeled every ounce of his stamina, every shred of his will, and a massive surge of his own Armament Haki into the blade.

He didn't swing at Vergo. He swung in a massive, horizontal arc across the entire room.

"AMPUTATE!"

The sound ceased to exist.

A line of pure, localized spatial distortion ripped out from Law's blade. It hit Vergo directly in the waist. The Vice Admiral's full-body Haki, renowned as one of the strongest in the Marines, flared defensively.

For a second, the two forces clashed. But Law's resolve, fueled by years of suppressed hatred and a desperate need for vengeance, shattered the barrier.

The spatial cut sheared straight through Vergo's obsidian skin, slicing him completely in half.

But the blade didn't stop there. The invisible slash extended outward, traveling the entire radius of the massive ROOM. It sliced through the reinforced steel pillars. It cleaved the concrete foundation. It cut directly through the entire mountain itself.

Vergo's upper torso slid cleanly off his legs, his face frozen in an expression of sheer, uncomprehending shock as he hit the floor.

A deafening, terrifying groan echoed through the facility.

Law slowly stood up, sheathing his sword with a sharp, echoing click.

"The gears have been broken," Law said, looking down at the severed Vice Admiral. "Now, no one can stop this era."

The structural integrity of Building D, completely severed at its base, catastrophically failed. The entire upper half of the mountain-sized laboratory began to slide sideways. With a roar that shook the very foundations of Punk Hazard, thousands of tons of steel, concrete, and rock collapsed inward, burying the laboratory, Caesar's office, and the defeated Vergo in a spectacular, island-shaking avalanche of destruction.

Trafalgar Law simply turned his back, stepping calmly out of the collapsing ruin, his alliance with the Straw Hats officially set into motion.
