Rafael's POV
"You should take it easy."
The voice of a man I knew all too well made me open my eyes from where I had been reclining in my office chair.
The first thing that greeted me was Marco's worried smile. He was the doctor on the team handling the trafficking victims.
The warm canned coffee he placed on my desk from the vending machine suddenly made me crave caffeine even more, despite the trash bin beside my desk already overflowing with empty cans.
"Thank you."
I opened the can and took a sip.
Somehow, the instant coffee failed to provide the instant clarity I needed.
The bitter taste numbed my tongue. I kept drinking it anyway, only to give myself something to do while staying awake.
"Are you sure you are going alone?" Marco asked carefully as he remained standing there, watching me.
"Yeah. We don't have a choice."
"We can ask another hospital for assistance—"
