Chapter 55 GS Game Console

This was the day of the press conference. Many media personnel flocked to the venue in suburban Munich. They were all attracted by the mystery of this new hardware, though many didn't have high hopes for the console itself. The main reason for the crowd was that the hype for Pirates of the Caribbean had grown to a fever pitch, and this "Game Star" console had cleverly positioned itself alongside the hit title.

Some journalists came to see the potential train wreck, while others were hoping for a genuine technological innovation. Currently, the popular game consoles on the market were mostly outdated systems with simplistic graphics. Regarding the style of the game console to be showcased next, many people felt that just being able to run PC-level games would be a huge step forward.

The media personnel took their seats, and a countdown to the start of the press conference was displayed on the massive screen. With just a few minutes left, tens of thousands of players had already flooded into the live stream. In the game, players had received system notifications about the broadcast, and many clicked in out of curiosity.

Lena was no exception; she entered the live stream from her MG team headquarters, ready to watch the unveiling. She felt that a game console co-branded with Pirates of the Caribbean must be extraordinary. She didn't believe the mysterious creator would allow her masterpiece to be associated with a subpar piece of hardware.

Hans Richter was also watching. Many people in the industry had been talking about this "Game Star" in recent days, so he tuned into the stream to see what the fuss was about. The camera panned across the front row, showing prominent streamers and industry leaders. Carl Schmidt was sitting in the center.

Wait!

Hans rubbed his eyes because he saw a familiar figure sitting right next to Carl.

"Matthias Engel?"

This made Hans wonder why Matthias was at this hardware press conference, sitting in the VIP section with the CEO of Unreal Entertainment. Since Matthias had been forced out of GG Games, he had been completely off the radar.

"I understand now; he's desperate. He's trying to show his face at this press conference to ride a wave of popularity," Hans thought, looking pleased as he opened a can of coffee. "Matthias, oh Matthias... no, I should call you General Manager Engel. To think how glorious you once were—one of the industry's 'Outstanding Young Developers,' my direct superior—and now you've fallen to being a seat-filler at a startup's launch. It's truly regrettable."

Every time he thought of the downfall of this former genius, Hans felt a surge of petty joy.

Finally, the press conference began. The venue quieted down, and a high-definition video of the game console appeared on the big screen. A console with a sleek white base and sharp black trim appeared. The people present gasped; they had never seen such a minimalist and futuristic design.

Immediately after, accompanied by the steady click of high heels, Katja Weber walked onto the stage, holding the game console in both hands.

"Hello everyone, welcome to the product launch of our GAME STAR Company. I am the host of this press conference, Katja Weber. I won't say any unnecessary words; please look at what I have in my hands—this is our company's independently developed GS1 game console."

As soon as she said this, the room erupted. Viewers in the chat began spamming questions.

"This is a game console? It looks like a high-end router!"

"What games can such a small device even play?"

"Is this a joke? It's too small to have any cooling or a real GPU."

Seeing the skepticism, Katja remained perfectly calm: "Everyone must be thinking, 'The game console is so small, what games can it play?' Can it play Brave Warriors Battle? Can it run Mini Arena?"

Katja smiled slightly: "No. It can only play one game."

"Only one game?"

"Who would buy a console for just one game? This is a scam!"

"Whoever buys this is an idiot!" Laughter broke out in the back of the venue.

Katja didn't flinch: "If I tell you the name of this game, I believe your perspective will change entirely."

The venue fell silent.

"It couldn't be..."

"No way..."

"Is it Pirates of the Caribbean?"

"Is that even possible? My gaming PC struggles to run it on high."

Everyone's hearts began to stir. They looked at Katja with a mixture of suspicion, unease, and hope.

Katja nodded heavily: "That's right. It is Pirates of the Caribbean!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, several people in the audience stood up and cheered. The media personnel were in a state of shock. Once the room settled, Katja continued: "Our game console is purpose-built for one game, Pirates of the Caribbean. And it can run smoothly at the highest graphics—Cinematic Quality!"

Like a bolt from the blue, this stunned the audience. The idea that a router-sized device could outperform top-tier PCs was revolutionary. By now, the live stream numbers were skyrocketing. Even major game streamers from the US and Japan were tuning in.

"Many of you might not believe me," Katja said. "You think this size is impossible. Next, I will demonstrate it for you."

Technical staff came onto the stage. They connected the GS1 to the 4K big screen. After the GAME STAR logo, the selection interface appeared. There was only one game: Pirates of the Caribbean.

"The peripheral I'm using is our specialized gamepad," Katja explained. "But we also support keyboard and mouse. Our console even supports recently launched peripherals for disabled players."

She launched the game. The intro cutscene appeared. It was lifelike and perfectly fluid. Then came the character selection page.

"My character is a Natural Historian, and her level is relatively low, so please be kind," Katja joked.

When Katja clicked to enter the game, the scene on the massive screen completely shocked everyone. The character rendering was flawless. The water rippled with perfect physics, and the azure sky looked real.

"We are currently using Cinematic Quality settings. As I operate it, you can see it remains perfectly smooth, maintaining a stable 120 frames per second without any lag."

The venue was completely silent. These were seasoned professionals; they knew that a game even top-tier computers struggled with was being mastered by this small console. They understood exactly what this signified for the future of the industry.

"Look at those graphics!"

"It's like reality..."

"I need one. When can I buy one?"
