Chapter 53: Tribal Terror
The banquet ended, and Matthias Engel drove the two sisters back to their apartment. Both of them had drunk quite a bit today, their faces flushed. Especially Laura, this relatively inexperienced young woman, who collapsed on the sofa as soon as they got home.
Maria was also a bit tipsy. It was winter in Germany, and Matthias knew that letting them sleep on the sofa would be a bad idea; they might easily catch a cold.
"Matthias, help me carry Laura to her bed," Maria murmured.
Matthias was speechless; if they couldn't hold their liquor, they should drink less—both of them. He carried Laura to her bedroom and then helped Maria to hers.
"Done," he said, turning to leave.
Just as Matthias was about to walk out, Maria murmured, "Matthias."
"Is something wrong?" he asked.
"Matthias..."
It seemed she was asleep, just mumbling his name in her dreams. Matthias shook his head and closed the door. As the door clicked shut, Maria opened her eyes, rolled over, and whispered to the empty room, "What an insensitive guy."
Returning to his own room, Matthias wasn't drunk, as he hadn't had any alcohol, though he felt a bit bloated from all the soda. He opened his music app to listen to some music. Suddenly, the Pirates of the Caribbean BGM rang out, its powerful melody clearing his head considerably.
He checked the credits; the company had uploaded the track, with Matthias Engel credited as the producer and the copyright belonging to Unreal Entertainment. Since the movie's release, this BGM had captivated music lovers across Germany and the world, and many live streams were playing it on loop. No one realized that this "Matthias Engel" was the former transmigrated CEO of GG Games.
He opened Lena's live stream and found her on a deserted island, being chased by a group of natives. He checked the coordinates via his Game Producer System; it was the same island where Lukas was located. However, Lukas was not online at the moment, and the island was in a leaderless state.
Lena had taken on a quest to find Captain Jack Sparrow's whereabouts. Hearing that Jack had come to this island, she had rushed over. This island was treacherous; the shore was littered with player shipwrecks.
Sure enough, as soon as they landed, they were ambushed. Fortunately, Bruso held up a large shield, blocking the flying spears, allowing the group to break through. Lena now had three epic crew members; the third was Uncle Sykes, whom they had rescued from the prison. He was a strength-based melee fighter whose hands were adorned with runic shackles—a curse from the Warden that was impossible to remove. He used these heavy chains to fight with devastating force.
"Run! The natives are catching up!" Bruso shouted, sprinting ahead. Bruso had a special module skill called 'Escape King,' which significantly increased his speed when fleeing.
"There's a path here!" Bruso shouted from the front.
Lena and the others followed him to the end of the path, which opened into the tribal headquarters. A large group of natives stood there, eyes fixed on the intruders. In the center of the camp, Captain Jack Sparrow sat upright on a throne woven from wooden strips, with the character "Lukas" carved on its back.
"Captain Jack!" Lena exclaimed, finally finding him after a week of searching.
Jack didn't reply; he just gave her a look and shook his head, letting her figure out the danger herself. Immediately after, the natives swarmed forward. With so many enemies, Lena's combat skills were overwhelmed, and the entire crew was captured. They were confined in cages woven from vines and suspended between steep cliffs over a deep river.
Jack fared no better. He was initially thought to be their chieftain, but the natives believed a deity resided within him and planned to roast him over a fire to "release" the god. A one-minute countdown appeared for Lena: if she couldn't distract them, Jack would be toasted.
Lena began to vigorously shake the cage. When it swayed close enough to the cliff edge, Sykes grabbed a sturdy vine. Everyone began to climb up, drawing the natives away from the fire. With the guards distracted, Jack managed to break free from the roasting rack and escape, only to be chased by a group of female natives.
Meanwhile, Lena's group fell off the cliff during their escape. Fortunately, they landed in the river. As they climbed ashore, Jack literally fell from the sky, smashing through several wooden bridges before landing in front of them.
"Hello, we meet again, Miss Leni!" Jack lay there, greeting her as if nothing were wrong.
The audience in the live stream went wild. Jack Sparrow had become a global icon since the movie release, and in recent character polls, he ranked first.
"Jack, why are you on this deserted island?" Lena asked.
Jack stood up, dusting off his coat. "There's a monster at sea; I had no choice but to come ashore again."
"What monster?"
Suddenly, a massive sound erupted from the nearby waves. With a violent crack, a three-masted ship was dragged into the depths by something massive; the entire process took seconds.
"As you can see," Jack shrugged.
Lena was shocked. She had caught a glimpse of a giant tentacle.
"That's Davy Jones's 'pet,' the Kraken," Jack said, making a spooky expression. "A terrifying legendary sea monster."
As they spoke, a figure swam from the wreckage—it was Will Turner. He had narrowly escaped his sinking ship.
"Jack!" Will shouted, lunging forward and placing a sword at Jack's neck. "I need your golden compass, Jack. Elizabeth has been captured by Lord Beckett, and the ransom he demands is your compass."
Facing the blade, Jack pulled out a piece of parchment with a key design. "If you help me find this, maybe you can save your sweetheart."
Little did they know, Elizabeth had already escaped Beckett's clutches on her own.
Suddenly, the jungle rustled. The natives were back. Before the group could reach the Black Pearl, they were surrounded. Just then, Lukas logged in.
"Stop!" Lukas shouted.
The natives immediately scattered, clearing a path. Lukas appeared majestically, riding Tiger King Saka, shocking the live stream viewers.
"Holy moly, who's that guy?"
"That's an epic mount!"
Lena frowned. "You are?"
"I am Lukas," he replied, clasping his hands. "It is an honor to see you all here."
"Why do these natives listen to you?" Lena asked.
"I accidentally became the chieftain, but I'm tired of it now. I've emptied all the treasure on this island anyway." Lukas waved his hand, ordering the natives to retreat. He knew the KT Alliance would be back for the island soon, and he wanted to leave while he was ahead.
After everyone boarded the Black Pearl, Lukas turned to Lena. "Leni, is your team still recruiting?"
Lena was surprised. "You want to join us?"
Lukas showed her his arena ranking: 17th globally, with a 73% win rate. Lena's eyes lit up. "So you're the 'King of the Streets' Lukas! I remember you from the Brave Warriors Battle days. You were too young to join then."
"I'm eighteen now," Lukas said.
"Alright. Report to MG headquarters tomorrow. But don't get too excited; you still have to pass the captain's assessment."
Lukas grinned. He had seen the millions in the tournament prize pool within the Game Producer System and knew that joining a top team like MG was his best shot at winning it all.
