Song Jie left his house and soon arrived at Old Deng's office.
"Song Jie is here!" Old Deng greeted with a broad smile the moment he saw him enter.
"I specifically came to thank Professor Deng," Song Jie said with a grin.
"Thank me? And you came empty-handed?" Old Deng eyed his empty hands suspiciously.
"Hahaha… I didn't have time to prepare. I'll definitely make it up to you next time," Song Jie promised with a laugh.
"How can a teacher accept gifts from students? It's enough that you have the thought." Old Deng gestured for him to sit, then poured him a glass of water.
"You must have other business with me, right?" Old Deng asked, knowing Song Jie never came without reason.
"Since I'm now a dual cultivator, does that mean I can become a member of the Light Element Academy?" Song Jie asked directly.
Old Deng nodded. "That's right."
"Then can I participate in the Light Element rankings?"
Old Deng was momentarily stunned, then immediately understood what Song Jie was aiming for.
Not long ago, the story of Song Jie single-handedly defeating the top-ranked Summoning Element student had spread throughout the Main Campus. Of course, Old Deng had heard of it.
"Song Jie, the Light Element Academy mainly focuses on defense. The method of competing for rankings is completely different," Old Deng explained patiently.
In his understanding, Song Jie's Light Element strength lay in offense, not defense. Compared to the Summoning Element competition, this one would not be as easy.
However, what Old Deng didn't know was that Song Jie's defense was terrifying—he just rarely showed it.
"So, how does the Light Element Academy compete?" Song Jie asked.
"The Light Element uses an assessment system," Old Deng explained. "Several teachers will conduct a practical combat assessment and then score your performance. The higher your score, the higher your rank."
"I see," Song Jie nodded. The teachers tested, and the students were ranked by score.
"But this month's assessment period has already passed. There's only one every month, so you'll have to wait until the next one," Old Deng said.
"Alright, then I'll just wait another month," Song Jie replied calmly.
He wasn't in a rush—it would line up perfectly with the upcoming Beast Fighting Competition in the Qing Campus.
"Your defense might still be your weak point. Take this month to work on it. With your overall strength, you might even take first place," Old Deng said earnestly.
"Alright, I'll attend more Light Element classes in the meantime," Song Jie replied.
Leaving the office, he was already looking forward to the assessment.
After all, if he could withstand Advanced Level attacks, how could he not take first place?
With absolute defense, no matter how powerful the opponent's magic was—if they couldn't break his shield, what could they do?
Song Jie felt no pressure at all. He then went to Dean Xiao to request permission to cultivate in the Three Step Tower, aiming to push his Summoning Element to the third level.
Little Green had already advanced to Warrior-level, and the three contracted creatures required a vast amount of magic energy.
Because the cultivation spots were always full, it took Song Jie more than half a month before it was finally his turn.
For seven days, Song Jie trained in the tower, reaching the bottleneck of his Intermediate Light Element cultivation. His Summoning Element had also advanced to the third stage.
Little Green, the Wind Riding Sky Eagle, and Little Black had all become significantly stronger.
"Ding!"
"Congratulations, Host! 'Light Blessing: Holy Shield Reflection' has undergone a miraculous transformation into the higher-level 'Light Blessing: Holy Shield Protection'!"
After six evolutions, Song Jie's "Light Blessing: Holy Shield" had reached the peak of its transformation—it could no longer evolve.
Holy Shield Protection?
Soon, Song Jie understood the power of his new skill.
This ability allowed him to release multiple Holy Shields at once. For example, if there were three people nearby, he could simultaneously cast a Holy Shield on all of them!
He tested it and found that including himself, he could protect up to five people.
After six evolutions, the defense power of his Holy Shield Protection could block the first-level attack of an Super mage!
Such terrifying defense made him practically invincible below the Super mage level.
Unless his opponent was a true Super mage, no one could possibly break his defense.
After emerging from the Three Step Tower, Song Jie immediately headed to the Qing Campus—it was the day of the Beast Fighting Competition, and he had promised to meet Mu Nujiao.
Soon, he arrived at the familiar arena that still carried memories of his glorious battles from last year.
Checking the message Mu Nujiao had sent, he began searching for her.
"Sister Mu, who did you save this seat for?" Ai Tutu asked curiously.
"A friend…" Mu Nujiao replied, feeling a little embarrassed to explain her relationship with Song Jie.
"A friend?" Ai Tutu smiled knowingly. She knew Mu Nujiao's social circle well—there weren't many people she would personally save a seat for.
She wasn't in a hurry though; she'd find out soon enough.
"There are quite a few Summoning Element students this time, Sister Mu. Are you going up?" Ai Tutu asked.
"We'll see," Mu Nujiao replied, scanning the crowd in case Song Jie couldn't find them.
"Sister Mu, look! The Summoning Element competitors are out!" Ai Tutu pointed excitedly toward the arena.
"There are seven this time. I wonder if they'll be as terrifying as the one from the last competition."
"Probably not," Mu Nujiao said with a faint, proud smile. "His talent is too special."
Just then, Song Jie entered the spectator area.
Scanning the stands, he quickly spotted Mu Nujiao—and next to her, a well-endowed girl.
"Is that… Ai Tutu?" Song Jie blinked. As a fan, he immediately recognized her most striking feature. It looked even bigger than Huo Yumeng's!
It seemed the anime hadn't done her justice!
Mu Nujiao and Ai Tutu were focused on the arena, unaware of his arrival.
Standing in front of the stands, Song Jie drew a few glances from nearby students.
"Hey, bro, can you—" one student started to complain that he was blocking the view, but another quickly covered his mouth.
When Song Jie finally walked away, the silencer let go.
"Brother Long, why'd you cover my mouth?" the first student asked, confused.
"Do you know who that was?" Brother Long asked seriously.
"Who?"
"Song Jie."
"Song Jie who?"
"The one from the last competition—the guy who fought two hundred and fifty people alone."
"Holy crap, that was him?!"
