Half a month later, inside the new Avengers Base.
The new Avengers Base was located in Manhattan, New York, and was chosen by Natasha at Tony Stark's request.
Originally, Tony planned to purchase land and construct a base from scratch. Unexpectedly, he found a perfectly suitable existing building instead.
After purchasing the facility, Tony carried out some renovations, and it officially became the Avengers' new headquarters.
The base now included training rooms, conference rooms, lounge areas, a gym, living quarters, a kitchen, and more.
Outside, there were thousands of square meters of outdoor training grounds, a lawn, a helipad, and a parking lot.
The Avengers could now fully treat this place as their residence.
At the moment, Natasha, Wanda, Pietro, Steve Rogers, and Kai all lived here.
That's right, Kai had also moved into the Avengers Base, and his previous apartment had already been vacated.
Currently, Kai, Natasha, and Steve were acting as instructors for the four new recruits, including Wanda, mainly training their teamwork coordination.
Arriving at his office, Kai picked up a teapot and poured himself a cup of hot tea.
Then he opened his computer, leaned back in his chair, and leisurely started slacking off.
[Borsalino portrayal +0.2%]
Seeing the system prompt, Kai nodded with satisfaction and opened the system panel.
[God-level Portrayal System]
Name: Kai
Age: Nineteen years old
Portrayal Template: Makoto Kyogoku (Portrayal: 92.5%), Borsalino (Portrayal: 66.8%, third portrayal template unlocks when portrayal reaches 80%)
Abilities: Monster Physique, World-class Karate, Grand Swordsman-level Swordsmanship, Armament Haki, Observation Haki, Glint-Glint Fruit (Unawakened), Marine Six Powers
Looking at the system panel, Kai saw that his Borsalino portrayal had already reached 66.8%, only 3.2% away from 70%.
Closing the system interface, Kai picked up his teacup and took a relaxed sip.
A knock sounded on the door.
Soon, Wanda walked in holding a bowl.
She smiled and said, "Kai, want to try the soup I made this morning?"
Walking over, she gently took the teacup from his hand and passed him the bowl of soup she had prepared.
Kai accepted it and said, "Thank you."
After taking a sip, he gave her a thumbs up and said, "Very good. I didn't expect you to be this talented at making soup."
He still clearly remembered the first time Wanda cooked at the Avengers Base.
Hearing his praise, Wanda's smile brightened.
She said, "I also added a lot of tomatoes because you like sour things."
Tilting her head slightly, she watched him drink the soup she had personally prepared, a different sparkle appearing in her eyes.
Kai asked, "How's Pietro's training going?"
Wanda replied, "He's doing well. Clint said his speed and coordination are already pretty solid."
Seeing that Kai had almost finished the soup, Wanda stood up and asked, "Do you want another bowl?"
Kai shook his head and said, "No need, Wanda."
She smiled and said, "Then I'll go train."
Only then did Kai notice Tony Stark standing at the doorway.
Wanda gave Kai a sweet smile before leaving with the bowl.
Watching her leave, Tony spread his hands and said, "I remember you're supposed to be mentoring them on teamwork just like Natasha. Didn't expect you to use your authority to pick up girls. Actually, judging from what I just saw, maybe it's the other way around."
Kai immediately fired back, "It's been over half a month since the Yellowstone Park incident, but I still haven't heard anything about your engagement. No way someone bought a ring and still doesn't dare propose, right?"
Tony sat down across from him and said casually, "You little brat who hasn't even touched a woman knows nothing about marriage."
Then his tone became more serious.
"For the past half month, I've had JARVIS completely erase every trace of Ultron from the network. Only now can we truly say Ultron is gone."
Tony placed a holographic projector on the desk.
He tapped it lightly and said, "This is the battle footage between me and that trickster in Yellowstone Park. JARVIS recorded everything."
The recording began playing.
Kai carefully observed the footage.
The black-robed man used pure dark magic energy.
However, the techniques felt extremely familiar.
Mirror Dimension.
Mystic binding magic.
Illusion magic.
They were clearly similar to the secret arts used by the sorcerers of the Sanctum.
But their color was different.
The mystic sorcerers normally used golden magic energy.
This one used black magic instead.
Also, although he wore a sorcerer's robe, he carried none of the iconic mystical relics.
No Eye of Agamotto.
No Cloak of Levitation.
Tony said seriously, "After restoring JARVIS, I had him analyze the footage frame by frame."
He continued, "According to the analysis, during our fight he had at least a dozen chances to infiltrate my armor or kill me with magic."
"But he didn't."
"And judging from the conversation we had, he seemed very familiar with me or the Avengers."
Tony leaned forward slightly.
"Kai, you still remember that New York incident when demons were summoned from hell, right?"
Kai said, "The Blood Ancestor?"
Tony nodded.
"Exactly. That ritual also used dark magic. Do you think the Blood Ancestor and that trickster are connected?"
Kai thought for several seconds before asking, "During that battle, besides you and the black-robed sorcerer, was there a third party present?"
Tony replied immediately, "No."
He tapped the projector again.
JARVIS switched to satellite panoramic footage from Stark Industries.
The entire battlefield in Ascent Valley became visible.
Kai watched carefully.
From the moment the sorcerer appeared until he escaped, not a single Sanctum sorcerer intervened.
Doctor Strange never appeared.
Logically speaking, the New York Sanctum should constantly monitor dark magic activity.
And with the Ancient One's power, she should absolutely have detected someone using dark magic like that.
But neither the Ancient One nor any Sanctum sorcerers showed up.
The same thing had happened during the Blood Ancestor incident.
Why?
Tony watched Kai's reaction and smiled slightly.
"I feel like you know something."
Then he continued, "Since you clearly know more than I do, I'm assigning you the investigation. I'm sure that trickster will appear again."
He added, "This is also a good opportunity for you to lead the new Avengers members in real teamwork combat."
Kai leaned back lazily and said, "So troublesome…"
Tony stood up and said casually, "Your bonus this month is doubled."
Ignoring Kai's reaction, he continued walking toward the exit.
"Oh, and the Avengers Foundation has officially been established. From now on, everyone gets paid for missions."
Then he left.
Three days later.
Inside the Quinjet above New Jersey.
Using the Mind Stone's power, Ophelia revealed the location of HYDRA's hidden base.
Furious, Madame HYDRA Ophelia shouted, "Damn it, how dare you betray me?"
She glared at Alice and Kai and said, "Flash, aren't you afraid I'll release all of Alice's information?"
Kai calmly peeled an orange and smiled.
"I only pretended to cooperate with you so I could locate your base and network connections. That way I could capture everything in one operation."
He continued casually, "Now I don't need your help anymore because I already got everything from you."
He gestured toward Alice and said, "Let me introduce her properly. This Alice beside me is an impersonator sent by Nick Fury."
He paused.
"The real Alice died long ago when Alexander Pierce's forces were wiped out."
Ophelia's pupils shrank instantly.
Just as she tried to react—
The Mind Stone activated.
Its energy immediately suppressed her consciousness.
Kai turned toward the others and said, "HYDRA agents are all lunatics. Once they believe escape is impossible, they commit suicide immediately."
He waved at Sam Wilson.
"Sam, check her teeth."
Sam stepped forward, opened her mouth, searched briefly, and pulled out a loose tooth.
"Cyanide?"
Kai nodded.
"A cyanide mixture. Bite down on it and they die within seconds."
Rhodey glanced toward Wanda and Pietro.
Pietro waved his hand quickly and said, "Don't look at us like that. Wanda and I weren't crazy enough to hide poison in our mouths."
Kai looked at the four recruits and said, "For the past half month, you've been training teamwork. Now it's time to test the results."
He picked up a box and handed each of them a miniature recorder.
"For this mission to destroy Ophelia's HYDRA base, Natasha and I won't intervene unless your lives are in danger."
They attached their recorders.
Kai checked the time and said, "It's 10:50 AM. We'll arrive in about twenty minutes. Use this time to finalize your plan."
Then he looked at Pietro.
"Watch out for bullets."
After saying that, Kai used the Mind Stone to render Ophelia unconscious and walked toward the cockpit.
Watching him leave, Pietro spread his hands and said, "Why does Kai always tell me to watch out for bullets? Even during training they're way too slow to hit me."
Wanda replied immediately, "Shut up and come here. Let's finalize the plan."
Inside the cockpit.
Natasha accepted the orange Kai handed her and said, "Tony and Nick Fury have already started arresting everyone connected to Ophelia's network."
She continued, "Business tycoons, social elites, political senators, even military contacts. The scale really matches HYDRA's usual style."
Kai leaned back in his seat and said, "So troublesome…"
Half an hour later.
Inside Ophelia's HYDRA base in New Jersey.
Kai sat near the cabin door and accepted a hamburger from Natasha.
"Thanks."
He handed her the tablet displaying combat footage.
Natasha asked, "How are they doing?"
Kai replied while eating, "Not bad, but they still need real combat experience."
Then he suddenly said, "This reminds me of that five-thousand-dollar hamburger I brought Tony back from Tennessee. I wonder if I'll ever get another chance like that."
Natasha shrugged and said, "If Tony heard you say that, he'd go crazy."
Inside the video feed, the four recruits successfully broke into the base after a series of explosions.
As they entered, the Skrulls guarding Ophelia jumped down from the Quinjet.
Alice said, "Director Fury asked me to copy all base data."
Natasha smiled and replied, "That used to be my job."
The Skrulls nodded and moved toward the facility.
Kai looked toward the unconscious Ophelia and asked, "Still no news about Bruce?"
Natasha sighed slightly.
"I used S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites to search almost the entire world, but there's still no trace of him. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if Bruce is even still on Earth."
Kai shrugged and said, "Don't worry. Bruce will come back once he figures things out."
Natasha nodded.
"I hope so."
At that moment, Wanda's voice suddenly came through the earpiece.
"Kai, Natasha, I think you both need to come see this. I found something incredible."
A few minutes later—
Natasha frowned deeply and said, "Damn it… how is this possible?"
Inside a transparent glass chamber lay a corpse filled with experimental instruments.
It was a smaller Hulk.
Its height was roughly two-thirds of Hulk's original size, and although slightly weaker, its muscles were still terrifyingly powerful.
Kai immediately said, "Transport the body back. S.H.I.E.L.D. will clean up the rest of this base."
One hour later.
Inside the Avengers Base.
Tony Stark looked at the corpse on the lab table and asked, "So this is the condensed Hulk Ophelia created?"
Kai replied, "Using the Mind Stone, I asked her directly. She said they captured this one in Washington."
He continued, "To capture it, she lost hundreds of personnel."
Tony crossed his arms and said, "Let's dissect it first. We need to compare its biological data with the real Hulk."
He added seriously, "If someone really masters the ability to mass-produce these condensed Hulks, the world will face another major disaster."
Kai spread his hands and said, "So troublesome. This world is getting crazier and crazier."
At the same time.
Inside the Secretary of State's Chief of Staff Office in Washington.
A subordinate reported, "Mr. Samuel, according to reports from New Jersey, Ophelia's base was destroyed by the Avengers led by Flash Man before our team could act."
He continued, "The incomplete Hulk corpse we were studying has also fallen into their hands."
Samuel Stern waved his hand dismissively.
But suddenly—
He began coughing violently.
His subordinate rushed forward with water.
Then he saw blood in Samuel's palm.
"Mr. Samuel, you need a doctor immediately."
Samuel wiped the blood away with a tissue and said calmly, "Even the smartest brain still cannot escape a weak body."
Chapter 73: Hulk's Corpse? (Part 2)
Inside the Secretary of State's Chief of Staff Office in Washington.
Samuel Stern asked calmly, "How is the Secretary of State doing?"
His subordinate immediately replied, "The Secretary of State is still hesitant about the Superhero Registration Act you proposed."
He continued, "The Avengers are extremely powerful and enjoy very high public support. Some senators in Congress also hold different opinions about the bill."
Samuel sighed softly and leaned back in his chair.
"The reason I became the Secretary of State's Chief of Staff, and helped him rise from a small state legislator all the way to Secretary of State, was to use his position as cover for my Gamma radiation research."
He looked down slightly.
"Gamma radiation is not just waves and particles. There is a third unknown form, something science still cannot explain."
He glanced toward the bloodstained tissue he had thrown into the trash earlier.
"I originally thought that before I died, I could help him one last time. Maybe this Superhero Registration Act would give him a chance to run for President in the future."
He sighed quietly.
"That would repay his trust in me over all these years. After all, even General Ross is now eyeing the Secretary of State position."
His subordinate asked carefully, "Sir, considering your current condition, should I prepare the laboratory? The research results have already been verified. They might be able to cure your body."
Samuel shook his head.
"No need. My body can no longer withstand further modification."
He continued calmly, "The Gamma radiation exposure increased my intelligence dramatically, but the price was endless illness and suffering."
Then he smiled faintly.
"Bruce Banner is currently the only successful case, even though that fool still only possesses Hulk's first form."
He sighed again.
"But he is someone favored by fate. Even the Abomination we created cannot compare to the Hulk's unknown upper limits."
He looked slightly regretful.
"Unfortunately, after all these years, I still haven't touched the third form of Gamma radiation."
After a moment of silence, he spoke again.
"Since the Avengers already obtained the incomplete Hulk specimen, they will definitely follow the trail here sooner or later."
He waved his hand lightly.
"Disconnect the laboratory from all external systems. I don't want trouble reaching the Secretary of State before I die."
His subordinate nodded immediately.
"Yes, sir."
He looked at the blood still visible at the corner of Samuel's mouth with concern, then turned and left.
After the door closed, Samuel opened the drawer beneath his desk.
Inside was a small bottle containing a mixture of red and green liquid.
His eyes filled with obsession as he stared at it.
At that moment, a teleportation magic array appeared inside the office.
The black-robed sorcerer stepped out.
He looked at the bottle and said calmly, "So this is your understanding of the third form of Gamma radiation?"
He shook his head slightly.
"Your research direction is wrong."
Samuel showed no surprise at his sudden appearance.
He gently shook the bottle and replied, "Unknown fields are always fascinating. As for what you call Under All Things, perhaps I'll understand it after I die."
Then he looked up again.
"By the way, during the Yellowstone Park incident half a month ago, your teacher didn't appear to stop you. That's not what you promised."
The sorcerer raised his hand and removed his hood.
"Because in her eyes, everything happening now is already destined."
Samuel asked calmly, "Then you knew you would lose, yet you still appeared in front of the Avengers?"
The sorcerer replied quietly, "I was unwilling to accept it. I lost everything."
He pulled a chair closer and sat opposite Samuel.
"During the Battle of New York, I even considered cooperating with the Chitauri to fulfill the agreement of World for World."
He paused briefly.
"But I abandoned that plan."
He continued slowly, "Loki Odinson won't work. Ultron with the Mind Stone won't work either."
He looked directly at Samuel.
"So I will keep waiting until my teacher completely returns to Eternity."
Then he spoke again.
"If you accept my conditions, I can let you witness the true third form of Gamma radiation, Under All Things."
"You will gain a healthy and powerful body, and I won't have to keep waiting."
Samuel chuckled softly.
"Your story is fascinating, but this is my world."
He leaned back slightly.
"Honestly, I envy Bruce Banner. If I had been in his position, perhaps I could have made Hulk even stronger."
He placed the bottle back into the drawer.
"I have never seen the inverted Qliphoth Tree you mentioned, nor do I understand what this so-called Under All Things truly is."
His voice became firm.
"I am curious, but not at the cost of my world."
The black-robed sorcerer stood up slowly.
"Then I will return when you are about to breathe your last."
He turned away.
"Perhaps then you will change your mind."
A teleportation array appeared again.
He disappeared instantly.
Inside the Avengers Base.
Tony Stark handed out forensic analysis reports.
Kai leaned back in his chair and spread his hands.
"If I wanted S.H.I.E.L.D. involved, I wouldn't have brought the condensed Hulk back in the first place."
Tony ignored the comment and distributed the printed reports.
"According to the autopsy results, this condensed Hulk's bone density is seven times higher than a normal human's, and its muscle fibers are extremely dense."
He continued.
"Ordinary bullets can't damage it."
"However, compared to Bruce's Hulk form, its explosive power and speed are less than one-tenth."
He shrugged.
"Special sniper rounds can still kill it with one shot."
"Missiles would obviously work even better."
Steve Rogers turned toward Kai and asked, "Kai, Ophelia said they captured this specimen in Washington. Do we know exactly where?"
He continued.
"Can we identify who transformed him into a Hulk through experimentation?"
Kai handed the remaining half of his orange to Wanda and replied calmly.
"Even Ophelia wasn't sure. After she obtained the body, she tried to investigate through her political and military connections."
He paused.
"But halfway through the investigation, she encountered strong resistance."
He looked at everyone.
"She has influence inside Congress and the military, yet even she was forced to stop investigating."
Tony immediately added, "Could the Secretary of State or even the President have authorized the experiment?"
Everyone shook their heads.
At that moment, Natasha pushed open the door and walked in.
"I found information about him."
She continued.
"The incomplete Hulk's original name was Johnny Green. He used to be a Navy SEAL."
"Three years ago, he lost both legs during a mission. After retirement, he experienced bankruptcy and divorce."
She crossed her arms slightly.
"He disappeared two years ago. I suspect he was recruited into some kind of experimental program."
"Just like Emil Blonsky before he became Abomination."
Steve nodded immediately.
"Tony, Rhodes, go talk to General Ross and see if he knows anything."
"Natasha, Sam, we'll investigate Johnny Green's background and contacts before he disappeared."
He looked toward Kai.
Kai leaned back and replied lazily, "I know. I'll stay at the base and coordinate with S.H.I.E.L.D."
The meeting ended.
Wanda smiled at him and asked, "Kai, you only had one burger for lunch earlier. Do you want something else to eat?"
Nearby, Pietro almost spoke up to remind her that he hadn't eaten anything at all since the mission ended.
But after seeing Wanda's expression, he wisely remained silent.
Half an hour later.
Nick Fury stood beside the preserved specimen and said, "Lost one Bruce Banner and found a condensed Hulk instead. If one day the Avengers start finding alternate versions of themselves, I won't be surprised."
Kai shrugged.
"You destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D. once and rebuilt it again. If another hidden organization appears inside the new S.H.I.E.L.D. someday, I won't be surprised either."
Nick Fury ignored the sarcasm.
"HYDRA is finished. There won't be another HYDRA."
Then he handed Kai a document.
"Westview. Population: 3,800."
"This used to be a peaceful town. But three months ago, all residents suddenly appeared outside the town overnight."
He continued.
"At the same time, the town became surrounded by an invisible barrier that prevents entry by both humans and detection equipment."
"And that same night, 3,800 death-row inmates disappeared from prisons across New Jersey."
He looked directly at Kai.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. sent multiple agents, but none obtained useful information. The Avengers need to handle this."
Kai replied lazily, "So troublesome."
Instead of accepting the document, he handed Fury the transfer form.
"Sign this so I can go rest."
"And talk to Steve about Westview."
Nick Fury signed the document without complaint.
Then he left with Maria Hill, the materials, and the specimen aboard a Quinjet.
Watching him leave, Kai returned to his office.
Westview.
The town from WandaVision.
Based on Fury's description, Kai suspected the black-robed sorcerer might also be connected to the incident.
At the same time.
Inside General Ross's office.
Ross frowned as he listened to Tony Stark and Colonel Rhodes.
"I don't know anything about Johnny Green."
"I also have no involvement in any follow-up Super Soldier research after the Abomination incident."
He leaned back slightly.
"You came to the wrong person."
Rhodes asked carefully, "General, could we review the experimental data from your earlier Super Soldier program?"
Ross immediately refused.
"There's nothing left."
"That project ended years ago, and all data was destroyed after the Abomination incident."
He looked directly at them.
"And even if the data still existed, what authority do you have to access it?"
"The Avengers?"
He gave a short laugh.
"As an unofficial organization, you don't have clearance."
He leaned back calmly.
"I respect what the Avengers have done for the world, but everything you're looking for no longer exists."
He checked his watch.
"I have another meeting soon. You may leave."
Rhodes frowned slightly, but Tony stood up first.
He shook Ross's hand and said casually, "Thank you for your cooperation, General Ross, even though you didn't cooperate at all."
Ross didn't react.
After they left, Ross remained seated in silence.
The experiment had indeed ended years ago after Abomination lost control.
But he also knew the military never truly stopped researching Super Soldiers.
Still, he had never heard of any Hulk-related research continuing.
Could someone really have created a stable Hulk variant?
Ross immediately picked up the phone and dialed a number.
Inside the car.
Rhodes started the engine and said, "Tony, General Ross clearly knows something, but he refuses to tell us."
Tony calmly took out his phone.
"He's right about one thing. The Avengers don't have clearance."
The screen displayed: CONNECTING.
Rhodes glanced sideways.
"Oh damn it, Tony, did you hack into the military database again?"
Tony replied casually, "Otherwise?"
He smirked slightly.
"If official access doesn't work, we use unofficial methods."
He continued.
"And honestly, their firewall is still embarrassingly easy to break."
Rhodes sighed.
Tony added, "Think about it. Why do you think Steve specifically sent me with you to investigate Ross's old experiment?"
He tapped his screen.
"Because he already knew Ross wouldn't cooperate."
JARVIS immediately began scanning military databases for relevant files.
Meanwhile, in Queens.
Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff arrived at Johnny Green's former home.
Steve knocked on the door.
A middle-aged woman looked through the peephole before opening it.
"Sorry to bother you, Mrs. Betty. We're—"
"I know who you are. Please come in."
She immediately recognized Captain America and Natasha Romanoff.
After inviting them inside, she brought water for them.
Steve noticed their wedding photo still hanging on the wall.
Family photos were placed neatly on the table.
He exchanged a glance with Natasha.
They might learn something important here.
Mrs. Betty returned with the water.
Natasha accepted it politely.
Steve said gently, "Mrs. Betty, we'd like to ask you about Johnny Green."
Her emotions changed instantly.
"Is Johnny still alive? Where is he? Thank God, I finally have news about him."
Natasha quickly comforted her.
"Please calm down."
After regaining her composure, Mrs. Betty spoke softly.
"I've known Johnny since I was fourteen. He was the most popular boy at school."
"After graduation, we got married. Even after he joined the army, he always came home during his yearly leave."
"He was gentle, responsible, and dependable."
She paused briefly.
"We also had a child."
Her voice trembled.
"But three years ago, he lost both his legs during a mission."
"After that, he changed completely."
"He insisted on divorce and left everything to me."
Tears filled her eyes again.
After calming down, she continued.
"Then two years ago, Johnny disappeared."
She wiped her eyes.
"Before he disappeared, he called me and told me he would regain his legs within a few months."
