Although many candidates were disqualified by the traps, some still managed to rely on their strength and instincts to make it through, avoiding the dangers and advancing toward the B test site.
"Got some skills, huh? Then try this again," Tenten said as she bit her finger and smeared blood across a tree trunk.
With a puff of white smoke, dozens of wooden human puppets appeared in the candidates' path.
"Wooden puppets? Everyone, try to avoid using Ninjutsu—we don't want to expose our techniques this early," Shinki said calmly as he scanned the situation.
"Got it." Yodo nodded, then dashed forward and kicked a puppet into pieces, splinters flying everywhere.
Other Genin followed suit, quickly taking care of the puppets before pressing on toward the test site.
Soon enough, the remaining candidates began arriving at the B test site one after another.
"Where are Boruto and Sarada?" Sumire Kakei looked around but didn't spot either of them.
"Boruto Uzumaki hasn't arrived yet? I was actually looking forward to fighting him," Shinki said, disappointment flickering in his eyes before he returned to his usual calm.
"Hmph, the son of the Hokage probably got himself disqualified already," Yurui sneered, his tone full of jealousy. "What a waste—living off his father's name."
"Why don't I see Naruto's son?" Tenten murmured from her perch high in the trees, frowning in confusion.
Just then, three figures blurred past like flashes of lightning—Boruto, Mitsuki, and Sarada.
"So fast!" Tenten gasped, barely catching a glimpse before the three had already burst out of the forest.
Their speed whipped up a powerful gust as they landed at the test site, surprising all the candidates present.
"Boruto, you're finally here," Sumire sighed in relief.
Shinki frowned slightly. "So fast…"
He had considered himself quick, but Boruto's speed made him reconsider.
Yurui clicked his tongue. "Tch, so he's fast—big deal!"
Sai stood at the front, looking over the gathered Genin. "I didn't expect this many to make it through."
"Their overall strength matches what we'd heard," Shikamaru said, waving a hand. "But the test's only just beginning."
A black cloth in the center of the B test site slowly fell, revealing two white circular platforms. Above them hung banners marked "Correct" and "Incorrect."
"Each team of three must choose the answer you believe is correct," Sai explained. "Stand on the 'Correct' or 'Incorrect' platform."
Inojin sighed. "A true or false quiz, huh? Dad and the others must've gone through a lot of trouble setting this up."
Sai continued, "An incorrect answer means disqualification. Those who fail will turn black—literally."
The Genin exchanged uneasy looks.
"So, the question is: In The Ninja Master's Case Files, Volume 5, the ninja code appears as 'Moon to Sun, Mountain to River, Flower to Honey.' Is this statement correct or incorrect?"
The room went silent.
"Who even knows that?" Iwabe turned to Denki.
"Is there even a Volume 5?" Denki asked helplessly. "I thought there were only four."
"The Ninja Master's Case Files only goes up to Volume 4," Sarada muttered. "Are they trying to trick us?"
Boruto smirked. "You know Konoha's Jonin—they love screwing with us more than actually teaching."
"Boruto," Mitsuki said with a teasing smile, "should we make the examiners carry a bag of rice next?"
Boruto grinned. "Forget it—it's just a coin flip. Let's take a gamble."
Sarada sighed. "So we're relying on luck now?"
"Don't worry," Boruto said confidently, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I'm the God of Gambling."
He stepped onto the platform marked "Correct." Sarada and Mitsuki followed, while Sumire, Wasabi, and Namida joined them soon after.
One by one, other Genin made their choices.
"Time's up!" Sai called. "The correct answer is…"
Everyone held their breath as the screen flickered rapidly between Correct and Incorrect.
Then both symbols froze at once.
"What the—? Both?!"
Gasps erupted through the test site.
Before anyone could react, the white platforms vanished beneath them.
Candidates on the "Incorrect" side screamed as they fell through the floor.
But Boruto's group didn't move—the ground beneath them remained solid.
"Ink!" someone shouted from below. The fallen Genin flailed in a pool of black ink, now drenched from head to toe.
"What's going on? Both sides were wrong—so why didn't Boruto's group fall?" Shinki muttered, raising the ground beneath him with Earth Release to stay above the mess.
Sai frowned. "That's odd. I ordered both platforms to be hollowed out…"
Shikamaru chuckled softly, rubbing his chin. "Boruto must've used Earth Release to reinforce the ground under his feet."
"Earth Release? But when did he form the seals?" Sai asked, confused.
"Who knows," Shikamaru replied with a shrug.
"Looks like we guessed right," one Genin whispered in relief.
Boruto turned around with a smirk. "Trying to ride my coattails, huh?"
He snapped his fingers.
Crack!
Circular holes opened under the feet of the Genin from other villages. One by one, they screamed and tumbled into the ink pool below.
"Dammit! We were on the right side!" one of them yelled angrily.
"The answers didn't matter," Denki said, eyes widening in realization. "As long as you didn't fall into the ink, you passed. Boruto used Earth Release to protect his side!"
Inojin peeked down into the hole beneath their feet, seeing the ink glistening below. "This insane test really does have Dad's touch."
Shikamaru crossed his arms. "Exactly. Those who saw the ink and panicked—those who gave up—fell for the trap."
"Those who accept failure without a fight aren't qualified to be Chunin."
Sai nodded solemnly, looking down at the soaked examinees. "The first stage of the Chunin Selection Exam is now concluded."
