Chapter 447: The Dragon Slayer! Arbok vs. Dragonite!
Perhaps it was because it was born in the very cave where Raikou once sought
refuge to heal its wounds, or perhaps it was the successive star-upgrades from
the System, but Kenji's Electivire had moved beyond the limits of its species.
It had inherited a sliver of Raikou's divine authority over the storm.
In the Pokémon world, a Rain Dance usually required a lengthy "chant" or a
gathering of energy. But for Electivire, calling the storm was as natural as
breathing. The sky didn't just cloud over; it surrendered to his will.
This ability was the ultimate trump card against a Fire-type specialist like
Zhurong Yun.
The Magmortar's offensive had been relentless, and Electivire had narrowly
escaped being vaporized by a point-blank Fire Blast. But with the rain now
lashing the arena, the tides had shifted.
Sizzle—
The rain hammered against the red-hot sand that Magmortar had spread across the
floor. The Scorching Sands hissed and popped, the steam rising as the heat was
forcibly sucked out of the terrain. The ground-based trap was neutralized.
Electivire lunged forward, the rain causing sparks to arc across its Thunder
Armor with renewed violence.
"Scorching Sands! Keep him back!"
"YA-HA!"
Under the downpour, the effectiveness of the move was halved. Magmortar had to
expend significantly more energy just to keep the sand at a lethal temperature.
Electivire, meanwhile, was playing a game of efficiency. It used Quick Attack to
weave through the geysers of mud and steam, biding its time.
The level gap was real—Magmortar had the higher raw stamina—but it was also
burning through its "gas tank" twice as fast. Electivire's Thunder Armor was a
master-tier technique that required minimal upkeep, whereas Magmortar's Fire
Armor was a crude imitation that flickered every time a heavy raindrop hit its
hide.
Zhurong Yun frowned. He realized that as long as the rain persisted, Magmortar
would eventually be bled dry. And as long as Electivire was on the field, the
rain wasn't going anywhere.
"Come back, Magmortar!"
He didn't wait for his Pokémon to faint. He recalled the fire-beast in a streak
of red light and reached for a different ball.
"Take to the skies! Dragonite!"
"YA-HAAAA!"
A massive, orange-scaled Dragonite appeared in the air above the arena. It was a
classic "fat dragon" in shape, but its aura was sharp and oppressive.
[Pokémon Status]
Target: Dragonite (Champion Tier) Gender: Female Level: 99 Type: Dragon / Flying
Ability: Multiscale Potential: S-
Kenji raised an eyebrow. He wasn't surprised. Zhurong Yun was the Fire Champion,
but he wasn't a "monotype" trainer. His team included ancient powerhouses like
Aerodactyl, Kleavor, and this Dragonite.
As a Dragon/Flying type, Dragonite didn't fear Electivire's lightning.
Furthermore, Dragonite was often called the "Avatar of the Sea." It was built
for typhoons and high-velocity winds. The rain wouldn't hinder it; it would
likely make the dragon feel right at home.
"Come back, Electivire." Kenji mirrored the switch. He knew Electivire would
struggle to punch through Multiscale. "I'm counting on you! Arbok!"
The obsidian serpent slithered onto the fractured floor, its scales glistening
in the rain.
"SHAAAA!"
Arbok hissed, its cold, vertical pupils locking onto the Dragonite above.
"YA!" Dragonite let out a spirited cry, almost like a greeting.
Kenji realized then that the two knew each other. Arbok had spent months on
Dragon Island, and Zhurong Yun likely sent his Dragonite there for seasonal
training under the Primal Guardian.
"Arbok! Dragonization!"
The serpent didn't waste a second. Its body began to glow with a deep violet
aura. The Dragon Pattern on its hood flared, and the physical transformation
began—its scales hardening and its aura taking on the weight of a true Draconic
Sovereign.
"Dragonite! Dragon Pulse!"
Zhurong Yun knew this Arbok was a freak of nature. He knew it possessed a
secondary Dragon typing and shouldn't be treated like a standard Poison-type.
"YA-HAAAA!"
The dragon unhinged its jaws, unleashing a beam of concentrated, violet energy
that tore through the rain toward the serpent.
Arbok finished its transformation just as the beam descended. It didn't dodge.
It whipped its massive tail around, swiping at the beam with the weight of its
new form.
BOOM!
The Dragon Pulse detonated against Arbok's tail, creating a cloud of smoke and
steam.
"Smoke screen is no protection here," Zhurong Yun muttered.
"SHAAAA!"
A counter-Dragon Pulse, identical in power to the Champion's, ripped through the
smoke and screamed toward the sky.
Dragonite banked hard, the beam whistling past its wing to pierce the clouds
above.
As the smoke on the ground cleared, Arbok stood in its Half-Dragon form.
"ROOOOAAAARRRR!"
The serpent let out a sound that should have been impossible for its species—a
deep, guttural dragon's roar. Simultaneously, a wave of Conqueror's Infusion
erupted from its body.
This was the Dragon-Pattern: Intimidate.
Under the tutelage of the Primal Giant Dragonite, Arbok had learned to perfectly
mimic the "Alpha Pressure" of the Island's Guardian. To a normal Pokémon, it was
terrifying. To a Dragon-type, it was a biological command to kneel.
High in the air, the Level 99 Dragonite suddenly locked up. Its wings missed a
beat, and a look of primal, ancestral terror washed over its face. It didn't
matter that it was eight levels higher; it felt as though it were looking at its
own God.
Arbok seized the opening.
"SHAAA!"
It used its Speed Pattern to turn into a black blur, then switched to the
Ice-Dragon Strike. A spectral dragon head materialized around its jaws, its
fangs dripping with a bone-chilling, sub-zero frost.
Dragon Rush + Ice Fang!
Because Dragonite was part Flying and part Dragon, the Ice-type move dealt
quad-damage.
WHAM!
The strike landed with the force of a falling glacier. Arbok's fangs sank into
Dragonite's shoulder, the frost instantly encasing the dragon's wing in a layer
of brittle ice.
Both Pokémon plummeted from the sky, crashing into the arena floor in a cloud of
dust.
"YA-HAAAA!"
Dragonite shrieked in agony. Its Multiscale had saved it from being one-shotted,
but the 4x effective "Ice Dragon" combo had still dealt catastrophic damage.
"Dragonite! Outrage! Draco Meteor!" Zhurong Yun shouted, his voice losing its
calm.
He was going all-in. Dragonite struggled to its feet, its eyes turning a berserk
crimson. It gathered every drop of its remaining energy and fired a sphere of
draconic power into the sky.
"Arbok! We'll answer with our own! Outrage!"
The serpent's eyes also turned red, but unlike Dragonite, Arbok remained
disciplined. It channeled the chaos of the move into its muscles without letting
it cloud its mind.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The meteors rained down as the two dragons collided in a frenzy of claws and
fangs. It was a bloodbath in the rain. Dragonite swung with everything it had,
but it was fighting a losing battle against the "Ancestral Pressure" of the
serpent.
Finally, Arbok found the gap. It dodged a wild punch and delivered a final,
crushing Aqua Tail (boosted by the rain) to Dragonite's neck.
CRACK.
The dragon hit the dirt and didn't move.
Arbok stood over its fallen rival, its breathing heavy but its gaze calm. It had
dismantled a pseudo-legendary through sheer biological dominance.
Zhurong Yun stood silent, his eyes wide. His Dragonite—one of the pillars of the
Huaxia League—had been soundly defeated by a serpent.
"Two down," Kenji said softly. "Who's next?"
