Chapter 446: The Anthem of Rage! Electivire vs. Magmortar!
Back when it was still a Mankey, the "Rage Phantom" had nearly killed itself by
unleashing its ultimate move without restraint. If Kenji had allowed it to
continue swinging the Fist of the Rage Phantom like a blunt instrument, it would
have permanently shattered the Pokémon's potential.
Because of this, Kenji's training regimen for Annihilape had never been about
increasing the move's raw power. It was about control. He needed the monkey to
harness that abyssal hatred without letting it consume its physical vessel.
Now, the harvest was here.
Kenji clenched his fists, his knuckles white. Across the arena, the spectral,
blood-red avatar behind Annihilape had swelled to four times its original size.
It looked like a demonic titan of pure fury, a sight that made the soul tremble.
Kenji was taking a massive risk. He was counting on two things: first, that
their months of specialized discipline would hold Annihilape's body together.
Second, the safety net of the Metabolic Accelerator.
The Vitality Essence Kenji had been hoarding wasn't just for growing old; it was
the ultimate regenerative fuel. It healed from the source, mending genetic and
spiritual damage that standard Potions couldn't touch. Even if Annihilape's body
began to collapse under the strain of the "Anthem," Kenji could force-feed it
the essence to stabilize its form.
The air inside the arena reached a fever pitch. Elder Lie's Level 100 Ninetales
narrowed its eyes, silently pouring more energy into the Extrasensory barrier.
The fox was clearly skeptical that the standard shield could contain what was
about to happen.
High above, Kleavor brought down the God-Sunderer, its obsidian axes blocking
out the sun. Below, Annihilape ignited like a blood-red star, launching itself
upward as a crimson meteor.
"SHH-BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"
The Sunder the Heavens strike met the Fist of the Rage Phantom in a cataclysmic
center-point.
The impact didn't just make a sound; it created a vacuum. For a split second,
the world went silent. Then, a roar of kinetic energy exploded. Shards of
obsidian, red mist, and pressurized wind hammered against the barrier, making
the psychic shield groan and hum with a violent frequency.
The fallout was so intense it bypassed the barrier's ground-seal. Deep fissures
raced across the earth outside the shield, spider-webbing right to the feet of
Kenji and Zhurong Yun. The entire summit of Mt. Cinder shuddered as if the
mountain itself were screaming in pain.
As the tremors subsided, a heavy silence fell over the peak.
The red fog began to drift away, revealing the arena floor. It was a graveyard
of sand. The massive obsidian axes had been ground into fine yellow dust by the
sheer force of the collision.
The two Pokémon were only seven meters apart.
Annihilape looked like a punctured balloon. Its massive frame had shrunk back to
its normal size, its gray fur matted and dull. For the first time in its life,
the monkey's face was devoid of rage. Its brow, usually furrowed in a permanent
scowl, was relaxed. It looked empty—every drop of its strength and hatred had
been forcibly drained into that one punch.
It was half-kneeling, its body trembling so violently it looked like it might
shatter. A faint, golden light shimmered around its frame.
Hex Core: Last Stand—Activated.
Across from it, Kleavor was in even worse shape. It was covered in deep gashes,
its stone armor cracked and falling away in chunks. It was also down on one
knee, its two remaining axe-stumps buried in the cratered earth just to keep it
upright.
CRACK... CLICK-CLACK.
The sound of breaking stone echoed through the arena. Kleavor's eyes widened as
it looked at its primary axe-blade. The legendary edge, which hadn't seen a new
nick in a decade, had snapped. Several large fragments of the ancient stone fell
into the dust.
"Qi…"
Annihilape let out a breathy, almost silent growl. It forced its shaking legs to
lock. Slowly, painfully, it stood up.
Kleavor tried to mirror the movement. It pulled its axes from the ground, but
without the support, its balance vanished. Its body gave out.
THUD.
The axe-wielder collapsed into the sand, unconscious.
Annihilape stood tall for exactly one second, staring at its fallen rival with a
calm, lucid gaze.
"Kleavor is unable to battle! Annihilape wins!" Elder Qi announced.
The moment the words left the referee's mouth, Annihilape also toppled over,
falling flat on its back and staring at the sky. It had nothing left.
Both trainers recalled their Pokémon simultaneously. While Annihilape was
technically the winner, it was effectively a double knockout. Kenji had used his
Last Stand and his first ace was spent. He had gained no numerical advantage.
Zhurong Yun reached for his second ball. Kenji did the same.
"Go! Magmortar!"
"I'm counting on you! Electivire!"
"YA-HA!" "BO-QIA!"
The two counterparts landed on the field. They were biological mirrors: same
evolution path, same base stat totals, but inverted offensive priorities.
Zhurong Yun's Magmortar was a massive, barrel-chested beast. The cannons on its
arms were already smoking, and the fire on its shoulders roared with a divine
intensity. It leveled its left arm, and a blast of heat vaporized a nearby rock
instantly.
[Pokémon Status]
Target: Magmortar (Champion Tier - Blessed) Gender: Female Level: 99 Type: Fire
Ability: Flame Body Potential: S
"Electivire! Thunder Armor!"
"BO-QIA!"
Electivire slammed its fists together, and a jagged cage of golden lightning
encased its body. It needed the armor to offset Magmortar's Flame Body—the
electricity would act as a buffer against the physical burn-risk.
Zhurong Yun smiled. "Interesting. Magmortar! Fire Armor!"
"YA-HA!"
Magmortar's shoulder vents erupted. High-density flames began to wrap around its
body, mimicking the structure of Electivire's technique.
Kenji observed the imitation. He could tell immediately that the Fire Armor was
inferior. Electricity naturally stimulated the nervous system, boosting reflexes
and speed. Fire was just destructive heat; while it boosted Magmortar's defense
and power, it lacked the all-around "Overclock" effect of the Thunder Armor.
However, the level gap was still the elephant in the room. Electivire had
reached Level 85 after three months of brutal training, but it was still facing
a Level 99 peak-tier veteran.
"Electivire! Quick Attack!"
The golden brute blurred, closing the distance. Electivire was a physical
specialist; Magmortar was a special-attacker. Kenji needed to force a brawl.
"Scorching Sands!"
"YA-HA!"
Magmortar raised its cannons. Instead of fire, a torrent of super-heated, molten
sand erupted, flooding the path toward the brawler. It was a Ground-type
move—devastatingly effective against Electivire.
Electivire was forced to break its charge, performing a high-speed roll to the
side. Magmortar didn't let up, flooding the arena floor with glowing, red sand
to restrict its opponent's movement.
"Electivire! Rain Dance!" Kenji commanded.
"BO-QIA!"
Electivire threw its hands to the sky.
Drip... splash... patter.
Thick, black clouds swirled into existence with impossible speed. Rain began to
lash the arena, hissing as it hit the scorched earth.
Zhurong Yun's eyes widened in surprise. That execution speed... it's triple the
normal rate!
Under the rain, Magmortar's fire sputtered, its Fire Armor dimming. The field
had just been leveled.
