Chapter 358: The Grand Final!!!! (Part 2)
Crr-rack... CRASH!!!
BOOM!!!! —
To the spectators, it seemed to happen almost without warning. The instant Beedrill's lances made contact with the translucent emerald dome, a network of hairline fractures—like shattered glass—spiderwebbed across the surface of the Protect barrier.
In the next heartbeat, the shield disintegrated. A reinforced barrier produced by a Level 99 Muk, a defense theoretically capable of tanking a hit from a Master-rank deity, had been effortlessly dismantled by an insect.
With the barrier out of the way, Beedrill didn't miss a beat. Its other lance lunged forward with savage momentum, aimed straight for the heart of the sludge.
Purely by instinct, Muk tried to liquefy its body further, hoping to become as soft as possible to dissipate the kinetic energy of the strike.
But reality was far colder than her expectations. The moment Beedrill's strike landed, Muk was physically lifted off the ground and launched backward.
SPLAT!!!! —
With a sickening sound, Muk's gelatinous body was slammed into the arena's energy shield.
The force of the impact was so immense that the protective dome nearly buckled, a dull thud vibrating through the entire stadium.
Muk remained stuck to the energy wall, unable to slide off, looking for all the world like a massive, sticky splatter of purple sludge plastered against a window.
Slid... plop...
After a long several seconds, its body finally lost its cohesion and slid down the barrier, collapsing into a heap on the floor.
Its eyes were spinning. It was out.
Another One-Shot KO!!!
And it had been done using Poison Jab—a move that Muk was supposed to resist by half!
The 100,000 fans in the stands sat in stunned silence, staring at the field.
Two Pokémon down. Two clean one-shots.
The crowd began to murmur in confusion. Some even started checking the jumbotron to see if Grandma Liu had swapped her Pokémon for low-level fakes. It was the only logical explanation. They couldn't reconcile the image of the terrifyingly powerful Poison Master they had watched all week with this current slaughter.
The battle was single-handedly rewriting everything the audience thought they knew about the Pokémon species.
Aren't Beedrills supposed to be weak?
Isn't their growth potential capped at the bottom of the ladder?
In terms of speed, it was moving faster than a Teleport. At 50x slow-mo, it was still just a blur.
In terms of power, it ignored resistances and shattered "invincible" defenses. The mere shockwaves of its strikes were tearing up the arena floor and making the energy shields rattle.
Is that really a Beedrill??!
Is that thing even biological???
Kenji watched his Ace with a proud smirk.
There was an old saying in his past world: "One force to suppress ten styles."
Simply put, in the face of absolute power, "technique" and "typing" were just distractions.
And there was another: "In the world of martial arts, only speed is invulnerable." It meant that no matter how perfect a defense was, it was full of holes if the opponent was simply too fast to track.
Beedrill possessed both. It was the absolute pinnacle of absolute power and absolute speed. It was, in every sense of the word, Invincible.
Kenji also felt a debt of gratitude to the woman across from him. If it hadn't been for Grandma Liu's tutelage—if she hadn't helped him develop Beedrill's hyper-acidic, corrosive venom—shattering Muk's Protect would never have been this easy.
And the reason it could one-shot through a resistance? That was the synergy between the corrosive toxin and the Radiant Last Whisper. Together, they provided so much "Armor Penetration" that for Muk, every hit was effectively True Damage.
"Muk is unable to battle!!! Beedrill wins the round!!!"
...
Thirty seconds later...
"Arbok is unable to battle!!! Beedrill wins the round!!"
"Trainer Elder Venom has lost three Pokémon!!! We will now enter the halftime intermission!"
The first half was over, and the Phoenix Nest was as quiet as a graveyard.
It wasn't that the match was boring; it was that the audience hadn't even had time to process what they were seeing. A match that usually took an hour to reach the midway point had been "speed-run" in less than a minute. Beedrill had effectively deleted the entire first half of a finalist's team.
"Is he... is he going to 6-0 the finals?" a spectator whispered, his voice trembling.
To see a 19-year-old student achieve a perfect sweep in the grand final of the Huaxia League Conference would be to witness history in the making. This was the highest stage in the country. To beat six of a master's best Pokémon with only one would be a feat that would be talked about for centuries.
"Looking at the scoreboard... it's actually looking likely."
"Unless she has a god-tier trump card hidden in the back."
The debate raged during the break.
...
Round 4 began. It lasted exactly twenty seconds.
"Nidoking is unable to battle!! Beedrill wins the round!!"
...
Round 5.
"Sneasler is unable to battle!!! Beedrill wins the round!!!"
As Sneasler hit the dirt, Grandma Liu was down to her final partner.
Kenji's Beedrill was still in its base form. It hadn't even broken a sweat, let alone Mega Evolved.
The stadium was boiling over now. In their eyes, the sweep was inevitable. Kenji was inches away from the throne.
But Kenji himself didn't look relaxed. His expression had turned deadly serious. He knew the games were over. The real battle was starting now.
"Kenji, boy... let's see if you truly have what it takes to wear the crown."
Grandma Liu spoke for the first time since the match began. She reached for the Poké Ball set into the head of her cane, her fingers trembling slightly with an eerie, dark excitement.
"Grandma Liu, I wouldn't be here without you," Kenji replied, his voice firm and respectful. "But don't expect me to hold back for even a second."
Kenji raised his left arm, the Mega Bracelet gleaming under the artificial sun. He pressed the Key Stone.
"Beedrill! MEGA EVOLVE!!!"
