Chapter 339: Gliscor vs. Tyranitar!
Following Kenji's command, Tyranitar's right leg hardened into a metallic sheen just as Gliscor's attack connected.
CLANG!
Gliscor swung its pincer with every ounce of its strength, but the strike failed to deal any significant damage.
Between the triple-stack of Radiant Titan's Resolve, Partial Iron Defense, and its secondary Filter ability, Tyranitar's "bulk" had reached an absurd level. It was essentially a living fortress.
However, Gliscor was still a Champion-level combatant. If Kenji allowed the rabbit-scorpion to keep kiting and poking with its superior mobility, even Tyranitar's health pool would eventually bottom out.
"Tyranitar!! Earth Power!!"
"ROAAAARR!!!! —"
Tyranitar roared, spreading its massive arms. Under its command, the sand and rock of the arena floor began to erupt, rising into the air in jagged shards.
Hu Ren's expression relaxed slightly. Earth Power? You're trying to hit a Flying-type with a Ground move? Good luck with that.
BAM! BAM! BAM!!!! —
Tyranitar's eyes remained fixed on Gliscor's silhouette in the sky.
Under the influence of its massive Special Attack stat, the Earth Power didn't manifest as a simple shockwave. Instead, it raised massive, sand-colored pillars of rock that shot toward the sky like anti-air missiles.
Gliscor twisted and banked, dancing through the rising stones. Being high in the air gave it plenty of time to react to the relatively slow-moving pillars.
Tyranitar didn't stop. It kept its head down, relentlessly churning the earth, seemingly unbothered that its "attacks" were missing by wide margins.
Wait... something's wrong.
Hu Ren's eyes widened. He scanned the arena, looking at the pattern of the stone pillars Tyranitar had raised. A chill of realization washed over him.
"Gliscor!! Get higher!! BREAK OUT OF THERE NOW!!"
"XIE!!!! —"
Gliscor hesitated for a fraction of a second, and in that moment, the arena went dark.
Looking around, the Pokémon realized it had been funneled into a specific zone. The stone pillars it had been dodging weren't just attacks—they were walls. In a heartbeat, dozens more pillars erupted, crisscrossing overhead and interlocking like the bars of a cage.
A massive, jagged "Earth Prison" had formed, completely entombing Gliscor within a cramped, stone shell in mid-air!!
"Tyranitar!! Blizzard!!"
"ROAAAARR!!!! —"
Tyranitar unhinged its jaws. A violent, freezing gale erupted from its maw, filled with shards of razor-sharp ice.
The target: the small gaps in the Earth Prison holding the 4x Ice-weak Gliscor!!
"Gliscor!! Protect!!"
Technically, Gliscor could have broken through the stone bars in a few seconds. The rock was sturdy, but a Champion-level Pokémon could smash it. However, if it tried to break out, it would have to drop its guard against the incoming frost.
In the cramped confines of the prison, Blizzard's accuracy was effectively 100%.
Hu Ren chose the safer option: survive the immediate threat first.
The freezing winds shrieked through every gap in the stone pillars. The ice shards hissed as they entered the cage, turning the swirling sand into cold, hard grit.
Creeeeeak...
A layer of thick frost began to coat the stone bars.
Gliscor maintained its Protect barrier, and the stone pillars themselves absorbed a significant portion of the elemental damage. For a few seconds, it was safe.
But Kenji hadn't expected a non-STAB Blizzard to finish the job.
"Earthquake!!!"
"ROAAAARR!!!! —"
Tyranitar roared and slammed its foot down with the force of a falling moon.
Given its current twenty-meter height and massive weight, the resulting Earthquake was catastrophic.
The ground buckled, sending out a shockwave that shattered the foundations of the arena. More importantly, the vibration hit the Earth Prison Tyranitar had constructed with Earth Power.
Under the harmonic resonance of the quake, the frozen stone pillars began to disintegrate.
Hu Ren's heart sank. He realized too late that the prison was never meant to hold Gliscor indefinitely. It was a timed explosive.
RUMBLE!!!! —
The Earth Prison shattered. Thousands of tons of rock and ice collapsed inward, falling like a mountain of debris straight onto Gliscor.
Simultaneously, Tyranitar unleashed a second Blizzard, blasting the freezing wind into the center of the collapsing rubble.
Falling boulders, crushing gravity, and a 4x super-effective ice storm merged into a chaotic soup of destruction.
When the dust finally settled, the arena was a mess of shattered stone and frozen slush.
Gliscor's silhouette was nowhere to be seen.
"Hnn..."
Tyranitar leaned down, reaching its massive hand into the debris. A moment later, it lifted its arm, holding a limp, purple-and-gray form by the tail.
Gliscor's eyes were spinning. Its jaw was open, and its pincers swayed uselessly in the air.
"Gliscor is unable to battle!!! Tyranitar wins the round!!"
The referee raised his flag, his voice barely audible over the gasping crowd.
To win the match, Tyranitar had expended a massive amount of energy, utilizing high-level terrain manipulation and back-to-back elemental nukes. It was panting, its posture slightly slumped.
"Return, Gliscor."
Hu Ren recalled his partner. He was silent for a long time.
He had to admit it: that was masterful. To use Earth Power—a move a flyer should ignore—to construct a tactical environment, and then use an Earthquake to turn that environment into a weapon...
Even among Pseudo-Legendaries, Kenji's Tyranitar was a freak of nature. Its combat IQ was as terrifying as its size.
