Chapter 337: Mega Garchomp! Defeated!
If that were the case...
"KAAA!!!! —"
Mega Garchomp let out a blood-curdling roar. In the next heartbeat, its eyes turned a blinding, solid red.
Outrage!!
BOOM!!! —
The shark-dragon rocketed forward, lunging at Arbok once again.
If Arbok's current power was truly equivalent to a Level 99 Champion-tier peak...
Then, after being hit by Breaking Swipe's Attack drop, Mega Garchomp's only path to victory was through the massive stat boost of Outrage, betting everything on raw, mindless fury.
BANG!!! —
The two clashed again.
Mega Garchomp swung its massive scythes in a lethal cross-cut.
Facing the twin blades, Arbok didn't dodge. It acted as if it hadn't even noticed the attack, its unhinged jaws—dripping with frost—lunging straight for Mega Garchomp's underbelly.
BANG!!! —
CRACK!!! —
In its Outrage state, Mega Garchomp had no concept of self-preservation. Facing Arbok's "Trading Blows" tactic, it didn't hesitate to drive its scythe into the snake's hide.
With a muffled thud, the terrifying force caused Arbok's body to cave in at the point of impact.
Simultaneously, Arbok's Ice Fang connected solidly with Mega Garchomp's abdomen.
Having landed its hit, Arbok released its grip and used the momentum of Mega Garchomp's own strike to spin away, flying backward.
Arbok skidded across the ground. With a dry rattling sound, a layer of black scales sloughed off its body, scattering across the sand. But the spot where the scythe had hit was completely untouched.
Disguise (Paint Skin) had perfectly absorbed the blow.
Mega Garchomp, however, didn't have that luxury.
The 4x super-effective Ice Fang had bitten deep into its soft underbelly. The frozen fangs had injected a tidal wave of cold energy directly into its internal systems, flash-freezing its core. The surrounding tissue turned a pale, sickly blue, stiffening the dragon's muscles.
The cold didn't just deal massive damage; it systematically crippled the shark's agility.
"ROAAAARRR!!! —"
The blinding pain only fueled Mega Garchomp's mindless fury. It charged again, a berserk engine of destruction.
Arbok hissed, meeting the charge head-on.
BOOM BOOM BOOM!!! —
Explosions echoed through the arena in rapid succession.
Both Pokémon were monsters in their own right. Every collision sent shockwaves rippling through the field.
Where Mega Garchomp's scythes passed, the already ruined floor was sliced into ribbons, the stone cutting like tender tofu.
Arbok was even more destructive. Its speed was so immense that every movement caused the air to shriek and the ground beneath its coils to shatter.
Mega Garchomp slashed out with its blades.
Arbok leaped, an elegant dancer on the edge of a knife. It dodged the cross-cut with millimeters to spare and countered with a heavy tail swipe.
Mega Garchomp skidded away and lunged back.
The two traded blows at a speed that was no longer perceptible to the human eye.
The spectators were forced to watch the high-speed replays on the jumbotron, slowed down several times, just to follow the fight.
The difference in quality was becoming obvious. While Mega Garchomp was frantic and desperate, Arbok moved with a chilling, effortless grace. It looked like a predator playing with its food.
Finally, the inevitable happened: the downside of Outrage began to take hold.
The prolonged fury had eroded Mega Garchomp's mind. It slipped from "Focused Rage" into "Total Confusion." Its tactical movements devolved into wild, random flailing.
Seizing the moment where Mega Garchomp's rhythm broke into a clumsy, over-extended strike, Arbok lost its patience for games. It let out a resonant roar, its long body whipping around to entangle the dragon in a crushing bind.
Mega Garchomp thrashed, trying to bring its scythes to bear, but Arbok was too fast. It unhinged its jaws one last time and drove an Ice Fang deep into the dragon's shoulder.
"KAAAA!!! —"
Mega Garchomp let out a strangled roar.
In the next second, as the frost energy invaded its system, a layer of solid ice began to creep across its skin.
The low-probability Freeze effect of Ice Fang had triggered.
But for the dragon, the ice didn't matter anymore. It was finished.
Arbok gave its body a violent whip-like snap.
Mega Garchomp was launched across the field.
BOOM!!! —
The dragon slammed into the ground. A flash of white light signaled the end. The Mega Evolution dissolved.
"Garchomp is unable to battle!! Arbok wins the round!!"
"Contestant Hu Ren has lost three Pokémon! The first half of the match is over! We will now enter a 30-minute intermission!!"
The referee's flag dropped.
On the field, Garchomp lay limp, its body covered in frost, its eyes closed. It was out cold.
With the battle won, Arbok's Dragon Form began to recede. Its body shrunk back to its original size, returning to its base form.
Arbok looked unscathed, but its expression was one of profound exhaustion. The side effects of the Dragon Pattern were no joke.
"Return, Arbok."
Kenji recalled his snake. Even though he had expected the Dragon Pattern to be strong, seeing it systematically dismantle a Level 97 Mega Ace was a revelation.
It's a god-tier power, Kenji thought, heart pounding with excitement.
Only Darkrai and Beedrill were currently capable of that kind of dominance on his team.
On the other side, Hu Ren recalled his unconscious partner.
The first half was over, but the writing was on the wall.
Hu Ren had lost three of his best. Excadrill, Hippowdon, and most critically, his Ace, Garchomp.
The pillar of his confidence had been shattered. He was walking into the second half with half a team and zero momentum.
