"I'm not running," I say quietly. "I'm just done fighting for something that doesn't exist."
His expression flickers for a second but I don't stay to figure out what it means.
I walk out.
And this time…i don't look back.
Alex's POV
The house goes quiet the second she walks out. The kind of quiet that sits heavy in your chest and makes everything feel… off.
I stand there in the study longer than I should, staring at the door like it's going to open again if I wait long enough.
It doesn't…
My jaw tightens.
I exhale sharply and move before I can think too much about it.
I go after her. My steps are fast, , like I already know exactly where I'm going. I don't need to check, I don't need to asks.
Her room.
I get there in seconds.
My hand lifts but stops midway...all I have to do is knock Simple…instea , I just stand there like an idiot, staring at the wood.
Because if I go in now, it won't be calm. And right now, the only thing holding this together is control.
