The next morning, everyone woke up early. Today was the day Lilia and Celine would start school. The new city wasn't so bad, after all. Although it was considerably noisier than the countryside where they had lived, it was more developed and had all the shopping centers and institutions they could need. In addition, their new house was large and had the best amenities. Celine's new school was only a few meters from the house, while Lilia's school was at the end of the street.
The little girl was excited to meet her new classmates, but at the same time, she was nervous because she didn't know anyone and worried that they might not accept her.
Her older sister reassured her, saying:"Don't worry. You'll get used to it. The first day is always difficult, even for me in high school. When we come back this evening, I promise we'll play your favorite game together, hide-and-seek, in the new house."
Lilia's eyes lit up when she heard that, and she jumped for joy. Then she went to eat her breakfast while her mother prepared her schoolbag.
Everyone finished getting ready and went outside, leaving their grandmother in the garden. Lilia waved to her through the car window. The old woman smiled and waved back.
In less than a minute, they arrived at the elementary school. Marlene decided to accompany her daughter to her classroom and stay with her for a while since it was her first day. Celine said goodbye to them, and the car continued on its way.
At that moment, her father was completely silent, a faint smile on his face. When they arrived and his daughter was about to get out, he said in a low voice:
"I hope... you have a good day... my dear."
Celine smiled and then got out.
Although their memories had been erased, the gap between them remained. Despite that, no one felt anything was strange or missing.
It might seem illogical, but that was the truth.
Everyone remembered all the events except those involving the Organization. For example, everyone remembered that Lilia was Ryan's daughter and that Marcus had found her in the orphanage. That was all. Nothing about the Organization using Lilia and Celine, nothing about Ryan being involved, and nothing about Marcus's brother being killed by them.
Therefore, the scenario in their minds was as follows:
< After discovering that her sister was missing, Celine rushed to look for her, eventually ending up at the clinic. (All details concerning her confrontation with the Organization had been erased.)
After entering the room, she found her sister there, and Eva had arrived at Celine's request. (The two girls did not remember investigating anything except the journalist Maryam Fallon.)
Eva, Ryan, and Celine had a conversation in the room. (The conversation only included the fact that Lilia's mind possessed extraordinary abilities and that their minds were connected to Lucian's mind.)
After that, the girls left in Eva's car and returned home.
Marcus and Marlene felt guilty because they had not taken proper care of Celine and because they had allowed her to go alone to dangerous, distant places such as the forest and the abandoned clinic. (They did not remember handing Celine over to the gang to be used as a test subject, nor did they remember that Marcus had discovered who had killed his brother.)
Later, the Events visited them and showed them Lucian. He then told Lilia that he was her biological father and that he regretted abandoning her because of his misery and depression following his wife's death.
Then he left, and the next day, the two girls went to school.>>
After Celine got out of the car, she headed toward the large gate. She stared at it for a while, then took a deep breath and stepped forward.
Celine normally didn't have many friends. Even the group of six girls that she and Eva had been part of had not been a true, lasting friendship. As soon as the school year ended, they went their separate ways, each following her own path. The only exception was Eva, whom Celine would occasionally run into by chance in the countryside, since Eva's grandmother lived there. However, she lived far from Celine's house, so such encounters were not very frequent.
