Chapter 54 - The promised peace

After Ryan and Lucian left, the house settled into a gentle silence, different this time. The silence was not heavy; rather, it was alive, filled with hidden movement: the sound of the papers Lilia had slid off the table, Celine's footsteps as she sat near the window to watch the light filtering through the curtains, and Marlene's soft sounds as she rearranged the cups on the table.

Lilia sat on the sofa and felt the air carrying a real breeze with it, unobtrusive and gentle, allowing her to breathe slowly, deeply. Celine sat beside her and gently placed her hand over hers, as if saying without words, "Everything is all right."

With a calm smile, Marlene began wiping the table slowly. There was no longer any need to hurry; there were no longer any conflicts or pressures. Every small movement had meaning, and every touch put the place back in order without the need for words.

Marcus, who was sitting on the opposite sofa, raised his coffee cup, looked at them, then smiled slightly. His smile reflected a deep sense of contentment, a feeling that things had become stable despite everything that had happened only moments before.

Outside, the trees swayed beneath the evening breeze, their leaves making faint sounds as though they were applauding the house from afar. Lilia and Celine listened to the movement and felt an inner peace flowing between them.

Grandmother slowly rose and carried the teapot to pour tea into the cups. There was no conversation, only a feeling of warmth seeping into every corner, every part of the room.

Lilia looked at the window again, where the golden light was gradually fading as evening approached. "The house feels different…" she said quietly, but it was not a passing remark. It was a gentle discovery.

Celine whispered: "As if we finally know how to move around here… together."

Lilia laughed softly and held her palm. There was no fear, no anxiety. There was only a sense of togetherness between them, between the family, between the place where everyone breathed together.

The house absorbed this calm, as though protecting it, touching it, and making it steady. Everything seemed natural; everything moved gently: the light, the sound, the air, and the small movements of every member of the family.

Lilia turned toward Celine:"

_Let's see what we can do tomorrow… or a little later. Just one step is enough for us to feel that we are truly here."

Celine smiled and rested her head on her shoulder:"

_Yes, let's do that."

As sunset approached, the golden light began to filter through the windows, spilling across the wooden floor and softly illuminating the room. Lilia sat on the floor near the table and opened a small notebook in front of her. She did not write much in it, only sketching a few thoughts and drawings, trying to understand how she felt in the present moment.

Celine sat beside her, gently playing with a strand of her hair,

Lilia looked at Celine and placed her hand over hers once again:"

_I feel like everything… has become closer to peace than I ever imagined."

Celine smiled:

_Yes… and we can enjoy this, without any fear, without any tension."

The house was no longer merely walls and a roof. It had become a real place, embodying safety, love, and silence filled with meaning. Everything seemed balanced, stable, and certain in a way that needed no explanation.

Lilia raised her hand to touch the glass, feeling the warmth that dwelled both inside and outside, and said quietly:

_Everything here… is as it should be."

And Celine, beside her, simply smiled, gently squeezing her hand, confirming that this feeling was mutual, and that the present moment, in all its simplicity, was the most precious thing to all of them.

Inside, as the light gradually weakened and the air filled the room, everyone felt that the house had finally become a space for living, for love, for peace, and for a warm routine, without any disturbance, without any threat, and without any need for grand words.

Lilia stretched her legs slightly and rested her head on Celine's shoulder, feeling warmth fill her chest. Before long, she fell asleep.

Marcus turned his head toward the window, looking at the sky that had begun to take on the colors of sunset. He felt the air moving gently, as though all of nature were sharing this feeling of comfort with them. Then he looked at Lilia and found her asleep, so he rose and carried her to her room. He placed her on the bed and then covered her with the sheet. Lilia's innocent sleeping face brought a sense of reassurance and calm to his heart. At that moment, Marcus swore to himself that he would preserve this peace and reassurance and would never let Lilia shed a tear from her eyes.

And somewhere far away, Ryan looked at little Lucian, gently stroking his hair. He knew there was a long road ahead of him, but he was ready, ready to be everything for Lucian that had never been given to him before.

Whatever happened, true peace does not come from outside, but from within… from the hearts that choose to remain strong and to live.
