Chapter 938 - Teamwork

The transition from plans on paper to actual practice transformed the property into a true hive of coordinated activity. In the first hours of the morning, the movement of the currents carried the muffled sound of rustic tools striking against the limestone rocks as the new boundaries of Sectors Alpha, Beta, and Gamma took their final shape on the ocean floor.

I walked among the magical irrigation trenches of the central sector, supervising the progress of the excavations. It was gratifying to see that the initial distrust of the local workers had completely disappeared, giving way to an absolute focus on carrying out the new logistical guidelines we had established.

My companions operated as the heart of this great mechanism, each taking direct responsibility for a critical point of the project. Elara remained at the temporary sorting center, surrounded by crates made of plant fiber and control scrolls. With her usual precision, she organized and distributed the coral seeds and runic tools, ensuring that no worker remained idle due to a lack of materials.

Farther ahead, in the sector of the large food algae plantations, Lyannis worked directly alongside the farmers. She did not limit herself to giving orders; with her feet firmly planted in the underwater mud, Lyannis helped secure the large containment nets to the rock stakes, displaying a contagious energy that kept the fish-men's pace high and focused.

On the outskirts of the farm, where the artificial reefs met the abyss of the open ocean, security was absolute. Vespera and Scarlett coordinated the defensive patrols. Scarlett led the guards mounted on the shelled creatures, testing the perimeter's reaction time against any unwanted approach. Vespera, meanwhile, remained camouflaged in the shadows of the upper rock formations, monitoring blind spots and ensuring that the workers could focus on cultivation without the slightest sign of concern.

In Sector Beta, dedicated to medicinal corals and healing plants, the work required an almost surgical delicacy. Liriel floated calmly above the hydrostatic nurseries, using her crystal staff to weave small currents of pure mana that stabilized the water temperature around the most sensitive seedlings. She only interfered with magic when the biological balance of the sector was at real risk of severe fluctuation.

Right behind her, her assistant watched every movement with wide eyes full of attention, holding a heavy leather journal in which she recorded the plants' reactions to magical interference. She collected small samples of purified water and documented the cycles of symbiosis with the cleaner fish, absorbing all the practical knowledge that this unique routine offered.

"The inclination of these nets needs to be perfectly aligned with the flow coming from the north, Takumi," Rai'kanna commented, approaching me while carrying a heavy support beam made of petrified coral on her shoulders with impressive ease.

She positioned the beam at the base of the central trench, driving it into the muddy ground with a firm blow before cleaning herself off. Rai'kanna had been working directly beside me since the beginning of the shift, using her unusual physical strength to accelerate the infrastructure work that would have taken the local farmers days to complete on their own.

"If we don't anchor this base now, tonight's high tide will bend the mana flow channels that Liriel is aligning," I continued, helping Rai'kanna secure the locking pins into the rock. "The teamwork here is working better than I expected. The integration between surface magic and their marine biology is perfect."

Rai'kanna wiped her hands on her waist and looked toward the horizon of the property, where the local workers watched us with evident admiration that went far beyond the simple obligation to serve a landowner. "They have never seen a leader who gets dirty in the mud with them, much less a court of warriors who works hard to ensure the people's livelihood. You have truly won them over, hero."

In the middle of the afternoon, I walked to Elara's control post to assess the day's overall balance. The reports showed that the waste of seeds and supplies had dropped to zero within the first few hours of implementing the rotating system, and the first hydrostatic vacuum pavilion already had its foundations ready to receive the time-slowing runes.

Taran approached our workbench, holding a recording shell with visibly trembling hands of satisfaction. He looked at me and then at each of my companions, who gradually gathered together as the workday came to an end.

"Lord Takumi... what was accomplished here today in a few hours would have taken months under our old system," the elder declared, his voice choked with deep respect. "The people of the villages are talking about your dedication. We don't just have a landowner now; we have a protector who understands our lives."

I thanked Taran with a firm nod, assuring him that the planning would remain strict over the next few days to consolidate the results once and for all. The feeling of real progress filled the environment as the bioluminescent light of the capital began to fade, signaling the end of an exhausting but immensely productive day.

I looked at the gathered group — Liriel, her assistant, Lyannis, Rai'kanna, Elara, Scarlett, and Vespera — all sharing the same physical exhaustion and the same pride in a duty fulfilled. With the definitive respect of the residents earned through the sweat of our mutual effort, the day's chapter came to an end with the certainty that we had laid the foundations of an indestructible bastion beneath the ocean.
